This is my first GPS tracking collar. I Have been a Loyal SportDog customer for many years. I got a new dog Pointer and she is a runner. So far, I have successfully tracked her at over 700 yards. The arrow tracking is pretty simply, but if i were to do it again, I would have gotten the 2.0. When you are used to GPS on your phone, the arrow takes some getting used to. The other thing is I don't need the variety of stimulation settings. All in all, this is a great collar when you compare the pricing to competitors. You get everything you need from it, and many features you may want.
After losing a dog for 11 hours and a few years later another dog for 6, I began investigating tracking collars. Friends who hunt recommended the SportDOG products and after trying a less expensive (and useless in the woods) pet product, I bit the bullet and bought a 1.5 GPS + E-Collar for three dogs. It is great. No worries in heavy brush and woods, I always know where the dogs are and can signal them if they have gone to far for me.
I have owner two TEK 1.0 before and had some issues with the collars. TEK1.5 has addressed these issues. The collar is lighter, the single antenna is better, and the charging method is much improved.
Have had the collar about 3 weeks now and have had it in the field twice for test runs. I found it easy to learn and operate. All features worked as advertised.
I am not a tech saver guy and I had trouble getting the collar to link to the hand held. I called customer service and they had me up and running. The tep was extremely helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience.
I have been a Garmin E collar owner and this is my first SportDOG collar. I am impressed by the long battery life of the collar and handheld. It powers up very quickly and the screens are easy to navigate and understand. My only reservation is that in bright sunlight the handheld screen is a bit difficult to read, particularly on the Tracking screen. The type size is small and the color of the type doesn't contrast very well. However, I am very happy with the purchase and recommend to anyone.
After about an hour, I was able to complete the set up. Only major complaint is the screen is not viewable in any form of sunlight.
The collar is a bit techy and it took an expected learning curve, but now am quite please to know where my dog is and that I can find her and call her in. needs recharge quite often if on most of the day ( GPS component)
This unit is described as a combination tracking /training with 3 stimulus buttons for training and a basic tracking feature. This sounded like a good solution for me. My dog seldom gets more than 200 yards away from me and I thought that if she goes on point in heavy cover, I would have a position and yardage to find her. The receiver also vibrates when the dog stops moving which is a great feature. I'm not overly computer savvy so I had some problems setting the unit up. I had to call customer service twice, both times the rep was extremely helpful. The main issue I have with this device is that in the tracking mode only the top button on the receiver will deliver a stimulus to the dog. My dog responds to the vibration so that is my choice for button 1. My concern is that there are times when the dog needs a more powerful stimulus. Examples would be: chasing a porcupine or skunk or running toward a road. It would be nice to have the other 2 buttons to give a greater stimulus when in the tracking mode rather then fumbling with the controller while the dog is getting in harms way.
Receiver dies faster than what is listed but overall great tracker wish antenna was built into band fear that my active dog will damage it
