I was skeptical of the4 horizontal enclosures until I realized that 99% of computer HD's were horizontal rather than vertical. I have both the drop-in vertical docks and now the horizontal dock with fan... and it runs MUCH cooler that the vertical. Which is how to keep your drives running for more time that the vertical ones. I will be replacing ALL my vertical docks with the horizontal ones.
My 13+ year old Dell Inspiron 531 PC finally died after a nearby lightning strike a few months ago. I already had the 222 GB boot-drive C: in my old Sabrent docking station, and buying another one allowed me to remove the 1 TB storage drive still in the old Dell and place it in the new Sabrent. As soon as the USB connector was connected to my USB 2.0 Octopus 7 port hub, the 1 TB storage drive now in the new Sabrent was immediately available with all of its files stored on it. An excellent value the money. A lot of my accounting system backup files were stored on the 1 TB western digital storage drive and now they are once again ready when needed.
Used it to copy data from a 160 Gb HD pulled from old laptop which could not be started any more (corrupt Windows, though tech first tried to convince me it was HD). Transfer done quickly (ok, I know that 160 Gb is not much), though plugged into USB 2.0 port. Cooling fan was so quiet that I had to check whether it was actually turning. Liked that it has the cover. Looks like a neat option if I wanted to use it as external drive long term. Interesting thing with delivery is that I got it nine days earlier than original forecast which was unusually long two weeks, probably meant to be delivered straight from overseas). Instead of two weeks, got it in about five days, including a weekend, free delivery. It actually sat in my box for two days before I realuzed it.
I put the old drive in the case, closed the cover, and plugged it into my new machine. It immediately began making noise. When I tried to access the first file, it asked me if I wanted to remove protections. I said yes, and a short while later, everything came up. Wonderful gadget!
I use it to run a 320 Gb SATA drive to my Samsung TV in the bedroom. When the TV goes off the Sabrient Flat Docking Station goes on standby so the hard drive isn't spinning all night. The upright Sabrient Docking Stations have to be turned off manually when you turn the TV off. This is my 3rd Sabrient unit. I use 2 for TV's and one stays hooked to the computer.
This works great! A little on the light side because it is made of plastic bit it does the job well. I used it for backing up drives and recovering data from HDD and SSD drives from dead computers.
Very cool docking station for ana SATA drive, 2.5 or 3.5 inch, you can swap drives in a few seconds.
Works well with my newer drive, not at all with an older drive that works in my other docking station.
Had 3 old drives - only recognized 1 -others may have had systems [os] that prevented recognition-dunno. Anyway the docking station seems to do the job.
Complete Garbage. Does not read hard drives. Fan won't spin. The only think that works is the LED light that shows it is turned on. Other than that, it does not function. Complete waste of money!
