It is secreted at very low levels throughout your menstrual cycle. Once a developing egg follicle reaches a certain size, LH secretion surges to high levels. This hormone surge is what triggers ovulation about 24 to 48 hours later. Your LH surge is important because it initiates the beginning of ovulation. Measuring LH on a numeric basis, in addition to basic ovulation testing, may provide a better understanding of your LH levels and timing of LH surge, LH peak and ovulation window. How to do the test? Dip the strip into the urine for 3-5 seconds. Lay the strip flat. Read results in 5 minutes. How to read the results? Positive (LH Surge): Two lines are visible and the test line is equal to or darker than the control line. Negative (No LH Surge): No test line or the test line is lighter than the control line. Compare the Test Line to the lines on the color chart. The numbers on the chart represent the corresponding LH levels. Measuring LH levels: Low: Test Line is lighter than line 25 on the color chart or test line is not present.
