The Pixel 5a is a simple and relatively affordable phone that gets a lot of things right without making too many sacrifices. Things that it gets right - great battery life, reliable performance for everyday tasks and apps, clean Android OS experience, useful Pixel features like call screening, awesome cameras, fast updates. I wish it was a bit smaller and had a 90Hz display but then I'd be sacrificing battery life, which I consider its most important feature so I'm ok with the larger footprint and 60Hz screen. The 5a does not support mmWave 5G so consider that if it's important. It's also not a device for people who want the fastest CPU, most memory, or best benchmark results. It's for those that value function over form and can appreciate a practical device that doesn't omit anything important. I've had it for about a week now and it's been a joy to use. Hopefully the next "a" series will feature a smaller phone option!
This is becoming my favorite phone I've ever owned. I upgraded from the pixel 2 I told myself that if I ever got a new phone it would be another pixel because I loved the 2 so much and I was not disappointed. It's all around a perfect phone. Battery is amazing speeds are fast. I'm no tech nut but I will say this is an amazing phone for an average everyday person. There's nothing that it won't do that I need it to. Very happy with the pixel 5a
I really like this phone. Coming from iPhone, I like to be able to do what I want with few limitations. Porting numbers was easy, data transfer was near perfect, including app data and permissions. Haven't used that camera much. I do wish it had wireless charging, but not a deal breaker. USB-c is great.
I am comparing to my prior Pixel 2, which had substantially less battery longevity. I have only had my Pixel 5a for a few weeks, and it certainly fills the bill for what I use it for. I am disappointed that it doesn't feature Magic Eraser, but I suppose that's on me...for not comparing features with the 6. In summary, the Pixel 5a does what the 2 did, but better
Aside from learning the navigation gestures this phone is comparable to the lastest Samsung Galaxy. The speakers are not the best at full volume when listening to music. It has good battery life and the fact that it tells you at what time your battery will run out is a handy feature.
Unfortunately I had to RMA my first one because it started bootlooping within a few days. The new one works pretty well except the bluetooth connection drops in and out a lot, I can't seem to get Google Pay to work even though it's supported and it worked perfectly on my Pixel 3XL, and I've had people tell me when they call me it rings once and hangs up. Good camera and it has a headphone jack though.
I don't know if it's the software or battery but sometimes the phone gets hot and limits usage. This happened once while playing Pokemon go in about 70 degree Fahrenheit weather. Also with the camera shooting video it can get hot also. Hope this gets fixed soon.
Average. The battery of this phone is not powerful. Advertisements in the Google chrome is really bothersome. Kindly do something about that. Also to go back in searches the arrow does not appears however one tries with the finger. Hence, one has to start from scratch or start fresh from search. This is really inconvenient. Call quality in phone is not good, cuts off in the middle and tone goes low despite volume is put high. The speaker phone we do not want to use for every call.
Chose the Google Pixel phone partly because it included 3 months of Google Fi service. I have been trying for weeks to get Google Fi to transfer my phone number from my previous carrier. I am so frustrated that I am ready to switch to another carrier. I wish I had not purchased this phone.
Screen went black after dropping twice from hip height. First drop cracked the screen, even with a screen protector, and the second drop broke the digitizer entirely. Had it less than a month, too. The screen uses gorilla glass 3, which came out in 2013 and it shows. This phone is absolute hot garbage and I would never recommend it to anyone.Don't buy this unless you've never dropped a phone in your life.
