I was shipped this product free for my honest review. Being that I literally JUST received this supplement, I can attest to the possible value of the Astaxanthin for help with eye care. I have read plenty of articles and I currently take a supplement with this ingredient in it, so I was curious to check out and review another similar product. I have been a health nut for years and I take supplements (many) regularly on a daily basis, morning and evening. I will have to do a follow up review after I have used this product for a month to see if I notice any difference. It is great that Wal*Mart provides vitamin supplements at a reasonable price. They don't gouge you and what you see is what you get. No fluff, no overselling. I will follow up in the near future to add to my review.
I have been taking eye vitamins for many years now, and I especially like the ones that have Astaxanthin and Lutein. I can definitely tell a good difference after taking them for awhile (and, when I haven't taken them for awhile, I can tell that I need to take them again). Astaxanthin has antioxidant properties and helps support healthy skin and healthy eye function. I have read that antioxidants help neutralize free radicals in the body, which helps you get over illnesses better. I just got these softgels and haven't had a chance to see if they will help me even more than the eye vitamins, but I loved reading the reviews online by those who have already been using them. Better skin, better eyesight, and helped get over illnesses faster were some of the best reviews that made me want to try them.
I have been taking them daily for almost two weeks, easy to swallow and don't have an after taste. Can't tell yet if they are worth taking but will continue until the end of the bottle. Don't seem to have any side effects. Hopefully they improve my eye health.
I started using another brand and it worked well, however I did not care for how big the capsules were. I have a problem taking large pills and I was about to give up on these because all of the others I checked out were large. So, thankful to the Walmart Spark Review program for sending these. I'm so happy that the capsules are tiny and easy to take. I will definitely buy these in the future.

I have noticed a difference in my vision and light sensitivity. The softgels have not made me feel nauseous and are very easy to swallow. One of the other benefits of Astaxanthin is that it helps to keep you skin young by protecting you from the harmful effects of Ultra Violet Light (UVA). The bottom line is that if you care about your health than this is a supplement you want to add to your daily diet.
So, the big question is “Do these work?” and the most honest answer is: “I don't know.” I was given Spring Valley Astaxanthin Softgels as a free sample to review and 3 days later am being told to post a review. I've been taking them as recommended: For Eye and General Antioxidant Health take one soft gel daily. For Heart Health take two or three soft gels daily. I am 47-years old, in good physical shape and eat generally healthy. I cycle 4-5 times a week, averaging between 40-75 miles on each ride. I've been taking the one gelcap once-daily dose, and while nothing miraculous has happened, nothing catastrophic has happened either. Unlike cold medicine or aspirin for a headache, I didn't expect to see instantaneous or speedy results. Spring Valley Astaxanthin Softgels are a supplement and so like taking multi-vitamins, you're not going to a burst of energy like drinking an ultra-caffeinated energy drink. I work overnights, and sleep in the afternoons. With this, I take 10mg tablets of melatonin, which is supposed to help regulate sleep patterns. A coworker once asked me if taking melatonin works. My answer was, “Maybe. Supposedly.” And that would be my answer with Spring Valley Astaxanthin Softgels, Supposedly, they do what they claim, and if you're going to believe in anything why not believe these maybe work? If not, you can choose to believe the Earth is flat!
I had not heard of the Spring Valley Astaxanthin Softgels before, and knew nothing about astaxanthin till now. I did some research, and found "Astaxanthin is an important nutrient for eye support. It's a powerful Carotenoid, supporting vascular health within the eye, and protecting the eyes sensitive cells" In addition to its ocular benefits, It is an antioxidant that's supposed to optimize joint movement, and is supportive of many other things like, cardiovascular health, healthy blood sugar levels etc. (Source:Web MD.com) These pills are smaller than a dime, and very dark. I can't tell the color, as per reviews I've read, these do not have red dye on the outside that comes off on your hand, while holding them upto a light, you can not see thru them, they seem to be of a better quality than the reviews, and pictures I have read, and seen. I have taken one a day for several days now I have not had any upset stomach or other side affects from them, it is too soon to know if they will actually help but I don't think they will hurt either. The directions say take one, 4mg daily for eyes, and two 4mg daily for heart. This pill is supposed to help clear blurry vision, so if they work, then hopefully I will know soon.
Spring Valley – Astaxanthin I have never heard of this supplement before trying these. It advertises this dietary supplement as good for heart and eye health. The recommended dosage is 1 4mg tablet for eye health and 2 4mg for heart health daily. It is recommended to take this with a meal so that is I have done for the past week. This soft gel tablet is very small and easy to swallow. Because I was not familiar with this supplement, I did research this on the internet and found that it is good for a host of things. I could not find any information regarding medication interactions so you may want to consult your doctor prior to use. I have not noticed any changes having taken this for a week, but often with supplements it may take much longer to feel any effects.
I wear eyeglasses and thought I would try these vitamins and see if I noticed an improvement in vision. I personally did not notice a difference but with vitamins it takes a while sometimes to help. I did feel as if my mood was changing, but I must say I have stress and children and I take several vitamins daily including mood improvement vitamins and a whole lot of others. I would like to try these again soon. I also take heart health vitamins like omega 3 and Multi vitamins. I should probably try these while only taking these but I have not done so. I do use this brand of vitamins and I have for years so I absolutely trust this brand and will try again.
I never heard of Astaxanthin, but according to the bottle it is an antioxidant that supports cardiovascular and eye health. I am very near-sighted and have chronic dry eye syndrome so I was willing to try it. I asked my optometrist, and she never heard of it so couldn't recommend that I take it. The supplement is a small softgel, so it's easy to swallow. I've been taking one per day for a couple of weeks and I don't notice any difference, but like any supplement, I didn't think that I would. I haven't had any side-effects, although the label warns not to take if pregnant or nursing. It is gluten-free for those people who care about that feature. The ingredients include gelatin (listed first), followed by safflower oil, glycerin, purified water, and olive oil, rounded out by medium chain triglycerides (which is a fat), d-Alpha Tocopherol (which is vitamin E), and rosemary extract. I'll finish the bottle, but I don't think it's worth adding to my usual daily supplements.
