The two filters I purchased from Discount Filters worked well and were excellent in every aspect. The company is especially easy to work with and I'll continue to purchase any filters I need from Discount Filters. Thanks for your help!!
Filter was originally installed about 3-4 years ago. It was never changed. I just changed it for the first time. After I figured out how much torque was needed, removal was straightforward. Some water spilled out. Not sure if that is expected, but it wasn't a lot. It may not be the best quick disconnect, but seems reasonable. Probably because of the time the ok filter spent in there, there was some brown stuff around the gaskets. I tried to towel out the holder in case it was some slime build up. Then I installed the new filter. I think total time to do this again would be less than 1 min to remove and install. I wonder if the commenters saying it was difficult have hard water (I have non-hard water, no softening needed). This is just a sediment and chlorine filter. For some locations that may not be what you need. Check with your local water utility before getting this kind of filter.
I had this filter installed as part of my kitchen renovation. i've had this filter for a year and it works well. However the problem is when its time to change the filter. They last six months. this si my second time changing the filter. I had difficulty the first time but assumed that maybe i just didn't know what I was doing since it was my first time. When removing toe old filter you turn it a quarter turn to the left and pull down to remove it according to the instructions. I struggle to get this thing to turn. it s like you have to have super human strength to remove the old cartridge. and putting a new one in isn't easy either. Removing the old and installing the new filter cartridge should take 5 minutes. 30 minutes later I am still trying to get the old filter out. once it is replaced the water filter works great. but it is useless if replacing the filter cartridges is difficult. I am giving this just 2 stars because of the difficulty in replacing the filter. I am probably going to look for another unit by a different manufacturer that is easier to use
I finally managed to replace the cartridge after close to an hour of work. Removing the cartridge was very hard. I had to remove it while it's hanging on the wall under the kitchen sink, using it for added leverage. It's a good thing the bracket was firmly in place. Installation of the new cartridge was equally difficult. To push it all the way in was hard as it felt like it was hitting something inside the receptacle. Then the 1/4 turn was also hard, and I was only able to do it by using the wall bracket for leverage, similar to the removal as I mentioned before.
I have bought many of these G.E. filters because the water flow slows after a short time .
I went to replace the filter for the first time and as soon as I twisted out the old filter water been gushing everywhere. Luckily my shutoff valve was close but I had about 2 gallons of water on my kitchen floor. Incredibly unhappy. Would never recommend this product.
No noticeable difference between water from tap and water from this filter.
Have used these for many years, always with good results for water taste. This new filter (2 weeks) has a plastic taste that is persisting. What has changed? Will this wash out? A bad filter? Tap water tastes better for first time in over 10 years of using this filter model.
Purchased and install this filter system, water was extremely cloudy upon installation, and did clear up, however you can still see fuzzy type particles in water after 2 weeks use. Water pressure is full flow, but does not taste any different than straight tap water, and you can see fuzzy particles in the water with the naked eye. Probably will go back to a pure filter, water tastes and looks better. What a shame for what I paid for the kit, also note filter made in China, but I guess that should come as no surprise! Expected more from GE?
We have been using these filters for years. In the beginning, they would last for at least 2 months. For the last year or more, these filters don't even last 3 weeks. This is very disapppointing and getting extremely expensive. Was anything changed on these filters? The only reason I keep ordering them is that the line was installed with copper pipe. Not easy to disconnect. Will start looking for another filtration system. This is getting way too expensive for a portable filter. I live in a borough of NYC. We supposedly have great water. My husband insists on filtered water. I would just disconnect the entire thing. Don't know what's clogging these filters but they just don't work well anymore.
