The design on the grills on the white speakers does not match the picture -- it is the same design as on the picture of the black speakers. The manual says you can mount them horizontally or vertically, but because of the horn tweeter design, you'll want to mount them vertically if you don't want the treble to drop off as you move from side to side. I mounted them under my deck (about waist height), and they are powered by a Sonos Connect:Amp (55 watts/ch). They have a wide sound stage, and when cranked up to about 95% of the max volume, the sound carries to about 100 yards at a conversational level. I brought out an indoor speaker (a Sonos Play:5) to compare the sound quality. The Kickers have better stereo separation, of course, but the volume level and tonal qualities sounded very similar. I would say the Kickers put a bit less emphasis on voice and mid-bass frequencies, but they're not thin sounding by any means. They're great for rock and roll or jazz. You may want to add a powered subwoofer if you're planning a dance party, but these are very nice speakers for casual listening. You can't beat the Sam's Club price! I'm glad I gave these a try instead of spending hundreds at a stereo store.
Just received these and I have to say they are awesome. I bought a pair of Yamaha NS-AW350 and was so disappointed in the sound. After reading a ton of reviews and listening to a quite a few competing brands at the local stores I decided to give the Kicker's a shot. I'd say they compare very nicely to one of the best speakers I heard out of the bunch, the .. Boston Acoustics Voyager 50 at 1/4 of the price. Also, these very efficient speaker in that they sound great even at a low-volume setting and the crank when you want them to. I'm very happy with these. ...Winner winner chicken dinner.
Sam's club stood behind the product. I had a problem with one of the speakers and Sam's Club exchanged them right away. I am very satisfied with the product, i am a high quality sound person, I like to have the music reproduced the way it was meant to be heard.. As these are outdoor speakers and mostluy used for background music I am very satisfied with the "Kickers" speakers.
I could have hooked up these speakers to my main stereo inside the house and they would have sounded great, comparable to my Sony bookshelf speakers. Strong bass and excellent mid range tones but can only turn up the volume a quarter of the way without the rest of the neighborhood hearing them. An excellent choice and value.
