I bought this yesterday. The fact that it has metal blades comes in handy. What I did to reduce noise was bend the blades. I took a pair of channel lock pliers and bent the trailing edge of the blade at the existing crease it a little more. I bent it at the base, the middle, and the tip. It reduced the speed of the motor, but still pushes about the same amount of air. Don't bend them too much or it'll put too much load on the motor, which will overheat.
This fan is so powerful, I have to hold on, so it does not blow me out the window ! seriously: it is so hot in my trailer this week, I can't believe it. this fan is cooling the place better than a small window air conditioner. I have it tilted toward the ceiling like the instructions say...It works !!
i am picky about my fans. I WANT NOISE (to help me sleep) and i want air blowing on me. AND this fan does that. we call it the airplane because when you turn it on that is what it sounds like. THIS FAN exceeded what i thought it would do. i honestly dont understand how you can give a fan low stars for doing what its supposed to. this fan moves air so that even when its 80 outside i can lay on my bed and cover up with a comforter and not be hot. if you want a fan to cool your living room while you have polite conversation and watch TV lol this is not it. BUT if you want a fan that will move air! this is it!
This fan on high will blow enough wind to make anyone cool , no matter what the temp is outside! It is loud but if you like to sleep with a fan on then it wouldn't be a big deal. Even on low, it gives off a lot of air. I'm very happy with it.
I MUST have a fan on to sleep. I was literally going through those 20 inch box fans 1-2 a month. I even got 3 of them at one time to equal out to a MODERATE HUM while I tried to get to sleep. They quickly lost their "fan sound". Mind you, I did NOT purchase this fan for the ability to cool a room down. I only wanted a fan that made a CONSTANT LOUD HUM so I could fall asleep. The fan is so AWESOME that I bought 2 of them! I have had the first one in my bedroom for almost a year. There have been NO problems AT ALL with it, AND the "fan sound"....well, that remains perfectly loud, louder, loudest (depending on which setting its on)!! As long as this fan is on the market, I will never purchase another box fan again. Oh, and for those people that ARE looking for a fan that will cool you down, this is the perfect fan. IT IS a bit loud, but if you have it on the first setting, you can comfortably watch TV AND get cooled down at the same time. SO, BUY THIS FAN!!!!!!!!!!!
As you may expect with an all metal housing, this fan is designed for some serious use. I use this fan personally in my wood shop and in my home. In my shop I have it just blowing toward me as noise isn't an issue with saws and a radio playing. In my home I put it in a spare bedroom that no-one uses and blowing OUT the window. I then open the windows to rooms we will be in an using. Doing this creates awesome flow without the noise. Yes, this fan is loud. However you may cut out the noise completely and still get the CFM benefits by using it as an exhaust fan. It's also worth noting that this fan is used in the receiving of our store.
If you are looking for a real workhorse of a fan this is a good choice. Airflow at any of the three available speeds is very impressive. Compared to a couple of more expensive fans that I own, there is a relatively minor range between the highest and lowest speeds, so expect plenty of noise even at the lowest setting. You may find that the sound level at any speed is enough to preclude watching TV or listening to music in the same room with it. Don't expect any shiny chrome plating on the cage; the finish is flat silver paint. The cage is not deep enough to fully contain the motor. The back half of the motor protrudes from the rear of the enclosure. The shipping carton is not very protective of the cage. Mine arrived with a minor dent. So why do I enjoy owning this fan? It moves and circulates a TREMENDOUS amount of air at this price! Don't even try to compare this thing to those weak twelve dollar 20-inch plastic box fans that people stick in their windows. I use this thing every evening to blast the accumulated heat out of the house during the summer months, and it does a fine job. I deducted one star based on lack of refinement in design and aesthetics, but the fan does deliver outstanding performance.
This fan will knock you socks off ... if you are looking for an industrial type fan then this is your puppy. It was much too loud for me since I don't like feeling like my head is in an airplane hangar. We literally needed to shout to one another in order to be heard BUT this does move air around like nobody's business. Just for the record I saw this fan and even got to hear the motor noise level while in the store but when I got it home it was about 100 X louder -- guess since my home isn't as large as a Walmart store. I am giving it low stars because it is just to darn loud.
I have owned three of these fans in the last two years and I have only one left that is still working. The other two just stopped working. The motor would not turn the blades without help from me. But watch out because the blades will cut. The one fan I have left is still working because I never turn it off. So it runs 24-7. At the price I paid you would think they would last a little longer. These fans were used in the bedrooms of my home. Turned on at night and turned off in the morning .
I returned the fan after trying it for barely 5 mins. The fan's stand is made of metal pipes that are too weak to withstand the vibration coming from the motor. And that even at the motor's lowest setting. The motor itself is a bit noisy.
