I purchased this for my 9 month-old niece's baby and on the first try, he was glued. My niece began to cry because she thought he had grown up too quickly. For two weeks she had tried to get him to wave and wouldn't, until he saw the baby on the video! I would recommend this product, especially if mom is the one conducting the lessons. This forms a special bond between the two and begins the important connection between school and home.

I bought this off of the YBCR website a year and a half ago and I am a little bitter it is now selling at Walmart for this price. But still...you should get this. Definitely. If you are on the edge, just do it. I started my daughter at it around 18 months, and in six months of spotty viewing and working with her, she was reading words before she could speak. She loves this program, and "finding words" to her is a game. YBCR taught her that letters and words are symbols and mean something ~ it started her mind working differently (and better, IMO) than my older two kids' minds were working at this age. It is really fascinating. At 2, she is reading quite a few words, knows all of her letters and numbers, and can count in Spanish (although Dora should be given credit for that). I'm going to get her the Spanish version soon.

My 18 month old daughter was reading books because of this series. She wasn't just reading the words that were introduced in the DVDs, but she was reading complex words like "anteater" and "orangutan". I was blown away! She is now 5 years old, and has a reading level equivalent to that of a third grader. Her teachers rave about how well she can focus, and pay attention in class. I'm a fourth grade teacher, and I've also talked to other teachers who have had similar experiences with other kids. I understand it's not all because of YBCR, but I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

LOVE THIS SO MUCH. My little girl is almost two. She is not yet reading the words but she is learning how to say the words and it has helped her to increase her language skills big time. It is a lot of work for a parent to put it but I think its worth it.

We played the videos ever since our youngest one was 1 month old. As he got older, we noticed he was attracted to words and his gaze would linger on signs and lettering before pictures. When we got DVD players in our vehicle, we had Baby Can Read on all the time. By the time we arrived at our destination, the video's already over (they're not that long at all). We didn't even use the flashcards on a regular basis, and as it turns out, we didn't even need to! When our youngest was a little over year and a half, he randomly picked up one of the cards and read the word, "boy"! I turned the card over, and he read, "moon"!! We were AMAZED to say the least!! So, of course I grabbed the rest of the cards, and he completely blew us away when he was able to read ALL of them! With the positive reaction he received, it only encouraged him to go on to the next word! In order to show friends and family when we don't have the cards, I'll write the words out on paper, and he reads them off like a champ. When we're out and about, he gets excited when he sees a word he recognizes and tells me, "Mommy! Look....!" and he yells out the word. On 2 different occasions, he saw the word, "Zip" and "No" and recognized them as the beginning of "zipper" and "nose", and he insisted on showing me. The flashcards only include some of the words that are on the video, so I've been writing them out for him, and I've added words to his vocabulary like "pumpkin" as we go thru the seasons, and the words that my kindergartner is required to learn by the end of the year, like "the, he, she, it". When reading to him, I point at the words, and when I pause he reads the word out loud!!! And he DOES know what the words mean, it's not like he's just repeating and not understanding. Our "youngest" will be 2yrs old in January, and we can't be more excited about how much he comprehends!!! To say the least, I am so excited to be able to introduce this to my child and give him the gift of reading!!! I try not to be that "pushy parent", but I can't tell enough people about what it's done for our children. Thank you for developing such a great product, Dr. Titzer!!!

Just bought this for my 2mos old and i have a 4 yr old as well. We watch these videos several times a day and my 4yr old is picking up on the words very well. As long as i put the time and effort in everyday with this program, i don't see how i won't see results. Very good quality, love the flash card and the books.

My four year old has seen commercials for Your Baby Can Read for about a year, and she has wanted this since she was three. I kept putting it off and finally this Christmas I came upon this at Walmart for $69.00 and couldn't pass it up. My daughter was so happy and she loves it. In just two days she's starting to read words! So the older the child the quicker they learn the words . She loves the books, the cards and loves to write the words on the dry erase boards. This product is definitely worth it and I'm happy to see that Walmart sells volume 5. We some how lucked out getting a four volume set rather then a three volume set. So I'm going to get the number 5 for her when she is ready for it. The only bummer was that the Workshop DVD didn't work. I decided to leave it be because I didn't want to take back a whole boxed set for a workshop dvd. I was able to watch some of it before it froze and didn't continue working. Other then that this is a great product worth getting for young children.

My 22 month old was diagnosed with minor speech delay at 18 months old; I kept thinking about purchasing this product, but the price was too steep for my current budget. During the holiday season, I went surfing the net to see if I could this product on sale and walmart came through. My son loves watching the dvd's over and over --he will sit still to watch them (limit is maximum 1 hour in one sitting before breaking) he has even begun recognizing some of the words and repeating them--this only after a month. I recommend this product and walmart came through on the price.

Very Educational

Overall, an excellent educational tool. Only issue I have is there is no instruction or suggestion on when to progress to the next level of the instructional Dvd's, leaving feeling a bit insecure and confused. Lastly, I'd like to mention, if the child has been exposed to T.V. already then it'll be easier to get them to patiently watch, if they have never had prior exposure they will lose interest fairly quickly.
