I'm not sure what this siren is for. I was going to use it on a small parade car, but there is no control circuitry. It's just a siren with two wires coming out of it with a small amount of directions on the out side of the box. I can't even find anything in the specifications saying what voltage it is. I suspect it is for an existing security system of some kind. Come on Walmart. Tell us what this thing is for.
After installing the DE 514LN siren to replace an old Clifford unit that had died, I found that it is somewhat defective. It sounds as if it's choking on one of the half-dozen siren sounds that it generates. The other tones are working O.K., although they don't seem to be as loud as I'd expect (should be 120db), particularly when compared to the previous Clifford unit's output. In addition, the "chirps" are barely audible when the system is armed or disarmed, or during the warning that's emitted when the car is tapped or windows are struck lightly. No warranty was enclosed in the box or cited on the packing slip or e-mail sales receipt. There is no mention of this product at all on the Directed Electronics web site.
