My wife got me one of these as a Christmas gift. It definitely helps maintain temp in cold weather. Its been between 34 and 45 degrees out while smoking this morning. I have the Traeger set on 300 and it has stayed between 298 and 306 all morning. Our ribs are done in the normal time of 2-3 hours!
Fits perfectly and works great. Living in S. Korea the winters are frequently below zero. This makes a huge difference in warm up time and the amount of pellets I consume.
I bought this after reading through all the bad reviews, and I agree that the design is bad since the low-temp melting straps are so close to the opening where heat normally escapes. However, after reading all the reviews I was able to make some adjustments and the blanket worked great for me. The first adjustment I made when I first bought the grill a couple of winters ago. During assembly I noticed there was no gasket around the lid and it seemed obvious to me that this was not going to work that great in colder temps, so I bought a roll of High Temp Gasket Smoker Seal and installed it. I had to add a couple of washers to the hinges at the top to allow for more clearance needed with the gasket. I also use an old cheap 10lb dumbbell set on the handle when closed to make sure the seal around the lid is extra tight. This has worked great for the past couple of years. This year however, the temps were supposed to be extra low for Texas so I decided to add the blanket. Once I got the blanket I cut a few strips of High-Temperature Carbon Fiber Soldering Heat Shield that I had from a previous home improvement job. I used some cotton thread and sewed the strips over the straps that clip to the grill opening. I think the combination of the high-temp gasket around the lid and the high-temp fabric over the strap mitigated the issue. I also did not go over 300 on the smoker during the cook.
I have only had this blanket for a few months and the straps melted off the clips at 300 degrees. No good. Not worth the money.
Bought this...lasted one winter with grilling enough to only count on one hand. The snaps/straps melted/detiorated that they broke off. on the plus side though. Called customer service and with few questions they replaced the cover free of charge since it had been within a year and since I had purchased online.
I bought this insulation blanket earlier this year. I installed it and went to season my grill for its first use. The straps on the new insulation blankets are webbing material vs the previous riveted metal attachment. The straps melted right off. Traeger was nice and is replacing the blanket, but this is definitely a fault in the design and manufacture of the product. I would highly recommend the design team goes back and replaces the cheaper webbing material with the previous metal riveted attachment that was on previous models.
Straps are melting. This cover should be able to stand up to the heat of the BBQ. This cover is meant to be used while the BBQ is on to keep heat in. It shouldn't melt when being used!
Used the cover three times during the winter months (only below 32 as recommended). The straps still melt off of the hooks. Very poor quality for a company that prides itself in branding and quality. 110% would not recommend. I understand that they will not warrant the product either. I bought this just before Thanksgiving last year, less than a year.
Got this for Christmas gift. Clips melted off on first use. Really this is your design? Did you maybe try to use your own product even once?
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this over President's Day weekend because I noticed it wasn't holding temps. Well I used it an entire three times and it seemed to keep the temp consistent. I decided to make some pulled pork for the Daytona Supercross, so I threw on some pork butt at 225* for close to 10 hours. I went out to check and noticed the bottom portion of the blanket was on the ground. When I checked it, the clips were still on the Traeger; however, the stitching had melted off the clips. How in the world do you make a product for a grill and put something on it that will melt. I'm extremely disappointed with this product just for that reason. Would not buy or recommend this product because of that.
