Just purchased this a week ago, 1st time using Sony other than PS4 and I think that I have made an excellent purchase. Love this Home entertainment center
I Bought this about a month ago and I'm glad I did!! The Auto Cal is a amazing feature and it didn't disappoint. The Dolby Atmos is amazing. Everything is easy to navigate. Recommend for sure if your looking to move from Soundbar to your first Receiver.
Had this receiver/ amp for a couple of months now, and I am fully satisfied with it's options and abilities. Truly impressed with the clarity and power, and with my surround sound system, I hear, with the utmost clarity, things in the background of a video or movie I've never experienced before. Bought this to replace older receiver I had for about 10 years, swap was easy, and the quality is there.
Great feature set on this receiver. Love that this is system automatically switches between inputs when going from TV, to the various game consoles. The Bravia Sync between this receiver and my Sony 930E Tv makes control a breeze and I do not even require the included remote. The ability for the receiver to switch between bluetooth receiver and transmitter is also something that my girlfriend finds extremely useful as she is able to run our bluetooth speaker in the bedroom off of this system.
This component has redefined what great sound quality is truly like for my home theater. The differences are outstanding and the price point was well within my means. This is the richest sounding and most affordable product Sony has put out yet.
We used/enjoyed our last Sony Amp Model STR-K9900P for 15 years and it performed well. We were over due for an upgrade so we stayed with Sony. We are very happy thus far. Many inputs, HDMI, and we don't own a 4K TV yet so we are covered there too.
I bought this receiver a couple months ago to replace an Onkyo that failed after four years. I am happy I chose the one I did. Setup is very easy if you want to use the automatic setup and let the receiver make the choices for you. It does a pretty good job of it and selects options that make the Sony work better. However I had a 7.1 Onkyo and wanted to switch to a 5.1.2 setup to use Atmos. That required that I use the automatic setup and then go back and make some changes to the automatic defaults as they were better suited to 7.1 in terms of how it syncs the sound levels from each speaker. Atmos's advantage is that it uses high speakers (ceiling mounts) to direct a portion of the sound down to the listener from above. If you don't have high speakers you can get Atmos speaker that bounce the sound up to the ceiling and then down to the listener. the automatic setup really assumes you are using the Atmos speakers and sets sound delays for syncing the sound to account for the longer time for the sound to bounce to the ceiling and then back. This causes some funny sounds if you use ceiling speakers and have a higher ceiling. Let me be clear that there is nothing wrong with the way Sony set its defaults as most listeners do not have ceiling speaks and will use Atmos speakers rather than go to the extra cost of buying and installing ceiling speakers. Once I had the corrections in and plugged in the blue-ray version of "Gravity" it was fantastic. Sound was quite accurate and you could pick up details that I never knew existed in the tracks. Excellent AVR.
We've had this for several weeks and are quite pleased with the sound, the features and the overall appearance of the Receiver. We enjoy good sound while listening to music and watching movies. This Receiver definitely delivers! The Bluetooth and Home Network features are particularly handy for us.
I've had this STR-DN1080 receiver since October 2017 and am only now writing a review. This receiver is connected to a Sony Bravia TV XBR75X850E and an Xbox1 via a HDMI cables. Speakers are a Bose/Klipsch combo. This receiver is great... when it works. It has an issue where audio and video will cut in and out after switching to SAT/CATV from Game (Xbox1). The *only* way to resolve the cutting in/out is to simply turn the entire system, TV and receiver, off and turn back on. I've tried swapping out all HDMI cables and ensured the receiver and TV have the latest firmware. I read reviews of others with similar issues as mine but saw no viable solutions provided by Sony. This is annoying of course and there is no reason to have paid this amount of money to have this type of issue persist for years. It is because of this scenario with this receiver that I now scour the internet for user reviews for anything I plan to buy... placing blind loyalty in a brand is a recipe for being duped into purchasing sub-par components.
I had a conversation with one of the engineering representatives and the response was not a favorable response. Basically the representative explained to me that the airplay operation does not function in the zone 2. I explained that this did not make much sense to me since the airplay pause, play and skip tracks all function in airplay in the main speakers and the zone2. The only thing that does not function is the volume control in zone 2. Main speakers perform correctly in all aspects. The volume can not be adjusted even with the remote in zone 2 once the volume is set in the zone control menu. I find it hard to believe that this is the normal function of this application. It defeats the whole purpose of zone 2 control option. I am very disappointed with this response and would like some clarity. I do not believe the representative had a clear understanding of the problem and was basically reading from a script.
