For those of you used to the 70 pound 26" CRT-based television sets from the old days, you'll be shocked when you easily pull this 17 pound LCD-based television from the box. The TV can be quickly unpacked, maneuvered, and installed by one person without needing any assistance. Start out by placing the set upside down on a soft area to install the tabletop base with four screws. That's the end of the construction process. Now place the set in your desired location, hook up your antenna (remembering that over-the-air HDTV is of wonderful quality in many locations) and any other sources (including HDMI sources), and finally connect the output terminals to your home stereo if you desire. Put the provided AAA batteries into the remote and turn on the TV. It instantly turns on and begins scanning for channels, a process which takes a couple of minutes. I encountered no difficulties with this initial setup. Menu items allow you to adjust the video and audio quality. The set is all black plastic with a fairly large (and somewhat obtrusive) Magnavox logo just below the screen. The CD/DVD player insertion slot is on top of the set behind the bezel. If you're going to frame in this set, you'll want to leave significant space on the top to access the disc entry slot. The screen itself is bright with accurate color reproduction when viewed on center. I experienced some washing out of whites, so when watching a news broadcaster wearing a white shirt, it was not possible to distinguish the seams in his shirt which I could easily see on a 1080p Sony reference monitor. Move a bit too far to the right or left and the picture shifts to the red. Move up or down from center and you'll find contrast variation beyond an acceptable level. At typical viewing distances, this won't be noticeable so long as you're reasonably close to looking head-on at the TV. Audio from the TV speakers lacks bass, a not uncommon issue in TV's this size. Fortunately, you can hook up external speakers with an appropriate external processor. At $350, there will be some trade-offs when comparing the TV to a $3000 unit, but that said, you get more than your money's worth here, particularly given the built-in CD/DVD player. The player works well, without too much loading time, and the remote provides the necessary access. There is limited upscaling of the DVD content, so you'll find DVD playback to be lacking in terms of high definition appearance. Luckily, you can hook up a BluRay player via the convenient HDMI port. The VGA input works very nicely as well - you'll need an appropriate output adaptor for many computers. The set has both NTSC and ATSC tuning capabilities. This won't be around forever on new sets, since it means the TV could have tuned in the old non-digital broadcast stations, but it also means you can easily hook up a VCR that requires your set to tune to the old channel 3 or 4. That may prove to be a useful feature. One final point: 26" on a wide-screen TV is not the same as 26" on an older 4:3 unit (the standard old TV ratio). This set will appear smaller, and if you're watching old content from a VCR, your actual picture size will be smaller as well. Make sure you don't want the 32" unit, which is just $50 more. That is more comparable to an old 26" TV if you'd like to maintain your viewing distance and apparent picture size. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the Magnavox.

Nice TV and easy to set up....you can hook up all kinds of devices to it, including the older stuff....one chink in the armor pertains to the on board dvd player...the player is up top behind the screen BUT the eject button in below the screen in the front!! Good thinking eh? Not! However, that being said, it does work well...I'd buy another one.

The HDTV has everything you would want and it is so easy to hook up to cable too. The DVD Player works outstanding as well. This item was refurbished when I received it but I haven't had any problems with it at all. The colors on the HDTV are fantastic and true. I highly recommend this to everyone - this is a very good value for a HDTV 26".

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set this up, it was simply a matter of attaching the base, connecting a few wires and plugging it in. The set scanned the cable system while I inserted the batteries into the remote, we finished about the same time and I was ready to start watching TV. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting the heavy monster it replaced out of the way. The picture is quite clear, the color and sound are both good. The DVD works well (for the most part), the controls on the remote are fairly intuitive. I had been a bit concerned about the size of the set, the one it replaced was just slightly larger but even so I can still see the set quite clearly from across the room (about 20 feet). So far the only problem I have had has been that it hung up on the DVD one time. I could not get the set to return to the regular viewing mode even after removing the DVD, and turning the set off, then back on etc. The problem was solved by unplugging both the set and the cable box and restarting everything. The problem has not recurred so I am hoping for the best. I am quite happy with this product and am would not hesitate to recommend it.

This was purchased as a second unit for a bedroom in a rental condo. While it does not have a super picture or sound, it is of very good quality for a second TV. Very easy to set up & install, very light weight, automatically switches over when a DVD is inserted, and is an excellent value for the price. Very satisfied.

Usually purchasing an item that has been refurbished is a good idea. Usually the problems have all been worked out of the product. Only had the tv a couple of months, so we will see.

Don't buy this tv, or you will be going through the hassel of boxing it back up and returning it like I did. The sound was absolutely horrible.
