This was a replacement for a smaller safe that I had bought the month before. The other safe was too small and had too much plastic in it. I was afraid that if there was a fire, the plastic would melt on my documents that I wanted to preserve, so what was the point? Anyway, this safe is much heavier and more secure with the deadbolts that lock it down. There is also more room and I am now able to get everything in it that I want. It is heavy enough that an adult would struggle to pick it up and carry it away after detaching it from the bolts in the floor. Again, a much better safe with a great price.
This safe is the perfect size for what I need it for. It has 2 shelves for smaller items such as jewelry or documents and the bottom is perfect for storing a hand gun sized firearm. The cost is great compared to one that bolts to the floor. This one is heavy enough to deter thieves from removing it (160 lbs). Great purchase!
Despite some of the other reviews posted here, I didn't have any trouble initializing the keypad. The only thing I didnt expect is that there is a key that you have to use in addition to the electronic code to open the safe. I thought it would be one or the other, but its not. There is another key that will override everything and open it without the electronic code. It's spacious and delivery was prompt. One word of advice-its heavy, but I was able to move it where I wanted to by flipping it over and kind of rolling it to put it into place. Once its out of the box, it can slide easily if you purchase the little discs to put under furniture designed to move heavy things. Would definitely recommend. Bye bye safe deposit box.
This is the second safe we have purchased for our two locations. Staff enjoy the ease of being able to push digital buttons, instead of an old-fashioned dial. One things to be wary of though, if you use the key(s) incorrectly, then it breaks the locking mechanism. The Master Key must go to the left. If it is turned to the right, which the mechanism allows, is breaks the lock
This model (2118DF) safe was hard to find in stock anywhere. A little bigger than some of the competitors and I wanted to find the biggest one for the spot I had for it. Seems well built for the money. Instructions on programming and entry were not quite correct but I figured it out since I have had other electronic lock safes. Overall a good value for the money.
not sure if it would pass the drop test,(higher than 10')but its roomy,fairly heavy,(150lbs)and easy to use. I installed in a small closet,then added hardwood strips,1 x 3's on the bottom,front and rear, between the rubber legs and safe,also bought longer bolts at the local hardware store(to attach wood and rubber legs),so that it will not come out of the closet unless you have a tool set to take it apart Between this and my burglar alarm, I feel a lot more comfortable,especially in this day and age Took longer than expected to recieve
Very happy with the overall quality and performance of this safe. Description stating it has 4 locking bolts is false. Only 2 steel locking bolts move to secure the door when closed and the other 2 on opposite side are plastic. The directions to program the safe's digital combination were inaccurate and I had to figure out how to program it through several guesses. Bring a truck or van when picking it up because the new shipment method to prevent damage has it in a box twice the size of the safe. I had to rip the safe out of the shipping box in the parking lot with the associate to load it into my car.
I bought this safe 9-3-07. Received my E-Mail that the product had been delivered. After getting home and unboxed, and ready to program my code in, error came up. tried new batteries and still not working. Called Honeywell ,we went through the stepsand still nothing. They sent me a new mother board today, 10-17-07. I called again we tried and nothing. The woman told me to take it back to Wal-Mart. I waited so long for the safe, I don't know if I want to try again.
I thought after punching in your code at the key-pad that the pins would automatically engage/disengaged...this is not the case. The key-pad simply allows you to use the hard key to disengage the pins. In this case, why not substitute the key hole with a handle.
I received my safe and while the box was in good shape the safe was not. All 4 top corners of the safe were dented in substantially. Since the box was in good condition it leads me to believe First Alert is shipping out damaged safes. I read a few other reviews that said they have had the same issue. The safe seems to be strong enough but when i pay good money for something i expect it to be in decent condition when i get it. First Alert needs some lessons in quality control.
