Before annual protection appeared on the market, I was using annual protection and oil changes from 15-20,000 - my engine at 220,000 miles looked as good as new, in fact, the guy who purchased my car was amazed at how clean my oil was after 6000 miles since my last change. My new car enjoys new Mobil 1's annual protection and the oil seems to be doing it's job at 20,000 miles since my last change. However, I do replace my oil filter around 12,000 miles or less between changes because I don't believe filters were intended to last for 15 to 20,000 miles. After inspecting, the filter did show signs of deterioration. Unfortunately, Mobil 1 doesn't make a filter for a 2016 Genesis so I continue to use the manufacturers filter. I"ve tried fram extended on my previous car, but it too looked worn halfway through. I don't believe others who say the oil is bad, but I'll be sure to repost if I see an issue.
I have a 2016 KIA Soul and starting from my first oil change I've used nothing but Mobil 1 5-20W. I now have driven 30,000 miles and on my third oil change. I never had to add any oil in between changes and the oil has always looked like new, clear after 10,000 miles of driving and at one year intervals. I actually notice a slight increase in my gas mileage ( about 2-3 miles more per gallon on long trips.) I highly recommend this product for both new cars and older vehicles. Mobil 1 has a broad range of products to accommodate most all vehicles new to older with high mileage.
I started using Mobil 1 in the early 1980's. Single viscosity, looked like water and that was hard to put into a brand new engine. Did it and never used anything else since. Mobil has only improved M1 over the years, giving us, as consumers more viscosity choices. The real test, as I see it, is when you pull a valve cover off after 150k miles to replace gaskets and all one sees is a valve assembly that looks brand new. Pull off an intake and no paraffin build up. You know bearings are good because you don't hear them. That's it. I've used Mobil 1 in my engines as well as M1 ATF in my transmissions. Pulled way too much weight, way too many times, never a problem. Maybe this color change problem mentioned in other reviews, I've read, on this site, just maybe Mobil 1 doing its job, suspending contaminates while still providing great engine protection. I'm an old engineer and wouldn't use anything else. Thanks Mobil
350k miles, no lubrication problems. 99 Silverado w/5.3 4wd. I don't beat the truck, but I do work it. Changed over all the lube fluids in the drive system right after initial break in. I wouldn't trust any other oil, have seen the electron microscope images of mobile one to mineral based, that was all it took. I change at 3500 no matter the driving, and use a synthetic substrate filter. At 3k miles uses about 2/3 a quart of oil. Never more or less. People think you are nuts for spending on the oil and filter, what did you pay for your vehicle, it pencils out nicely for me.
I have been using this oil in my wife's Nissan and the 15,000 mile oil in my F-150 for years. It's unrealistic to think, that after 7,000 miles. You will not need to add some oil, if you are running it past 7,000 miles without checking your oil level. It's not a Mobil issue!
My first 2002 Corvette was driven over 100K miles and almost daily for 12 years. True, I checked the oil but never had to "top it off". Used Mobil 1 always, but once when an oil change shop was told to use Mobil 1 and chose to use their chosen synthetic. According to the vet's computer, it lasted less than 5K. My new 2017 C7 Stingray with almost 20K seems to have the same results with Mobil 1 as my C5. As for me, I am not changing.
I am using this product for my whole house emerency generator. There are emergenies that can leaad to out power lines to be out for extended periods. During these emergenies when I need continuous 24 hour back up electricity, I may not be able to be here to do an oil and filter change. This premium oil allows my generator to run continuously for a few weeks or more without servicing it.
I've always considered Mobile One synthetic oil to be the benchmark regarding all commercially available synthetic oils. The one test that most of the oil manufacturers do not include is what the American Petroleum Institute calls its TFOUT test. That is the thin film oxidation uptake test, & it shows the results of the oil's ability to fight oxidation. Oxidation is what causes sludge. Sludge is what has killed more motors in the last 30 years than all of the other lubrication related failures combined, in my opinion. I've been a professional automotive technician since 1977. I'm also ASE CMAT L1 level certified. I've also only had about six weeks out of this profession since 1977, so have been really involved with cars, how they behave, what they do, and how they fail more than most people you'll ever talk to. I base most of my decision as to which oil to use in my own vehicles and recommend to my customers based on the TFOUT test. I would sure like to see that test for this oil!
Ive always used Mobile 1 synthetic oil and this new Annual Protection formula is great since it lasts a full year for me. I also recently tried a similar oil from Castrol (Edge Extended Performance) and expect it to do just as well. Both are available at Walmart.
I use this for a 5000 mile per year truck so I only have to change the oil and filter, once. Every time I checked the dip stick it looked great. All oils burn off so be sure to check it periodically for when you need to top off. 20k miles is a long way to go!
