Bought this sewing machine about six months ago, and I'm so glad I did. I chose it because of the knee lifter, but I love it for a lot of reasons. I have used Brother sewing machines in the past, so I was confident of the brand. I enjoy quilting, which is why I wanted the knee lifter; don't have to keep lifting the presser foot by hand. That alone is a real benefit; saves repetitive use of the muscles in the neck and shoulder. But, there's so much more to love about this Brother sewing machine: The action of the feed dog is so smooth and even, that both the upper and lower fabrics feed evenly, and you don't end up with one side skewed longer than the other. Thus, my quilt pieces are not stretched out of shape on one side or the other. This machine also comes with a walking presser foot for quilting. I have bought this accessory as a separate purchase in the past and found that it made top stitching a quilt much easier, but the walking foot which comes with this model is even better than my other; in addition to forward stitching, it works in reverse, which allows more secure stitching at the beginning and end of each piece, and it travels more smoothly than my other. The power and speed of this Brother are impressive; it is so easy to stitch a straight seam because there is no hesitation or deflection when the presser foot rides over an uneven surface. My projects come out so much better with this machine, you'd think I was a pro. It makes it so much more fun to sew!
This review is going to be a comparative one my first purchase was a Brother cs6000i very good machine easy to use lots of feet. but I do quilting so it is described as a quilting machine but it's not for the serious quilter. I hade it for a year and had to get it honed down. So I purchased the Brother Designio DZ1500F let me tell you it is a work horse and it's just as easy to use as the other. Pro's heavier machine. Large throat, bright light, regular thread holder and one for the large cones. Easy to follow diagrams for the feed dogs and tension. Love the auto thread cutter, both had the auto needle threader the one on the DZ1500F is so much easier to use I had to fumble around with the other to get it to thread but this one is the first time 98%. large motor it doesn't bog down when quilting thick fabrics. I like it for free motion quilting too it does a great job on the stitch quality, the knee lift is so handy when your free motion quilting too, I haven't used the felter attachment yet but I can't wait. The warranty is longer that the other brother too. The only Con I can think of is that it's only one kind of stitch but I knew that going in and when your a quilter that's the only stitch you use.
