My wife has her Mom's old Singer sewing machine from the 1970's which we have been using when needed. This Brother sewing machine has really brought us into the 21st century! First of all, it is very lightweight, portable and comes with a nice cover and lots of extra accessories plus a 52 page Manuel that is very informative, along with the CD. The self threader is a must have and really makes threading the needle a breeze. It has amazing stitch patterns and the stitch dial is so easy to use. I used the the machine to re hem a pair of jeans that were to long so I cut off an inch. I triple rolled the hem and used the zig zag pattern with no issues at all. It sewed through the triple layers of denim like the material was a single sheet of silk. I'm Very pleased with this Brother sewing machine and have shown it to several friends already.
The Brother GX37 Lightweight, Full Featured Sewing Machine so far has been easy to use and I like the different stitching designs. I have only sewn small projects, like holes in pants and taking in shorts that were too big. The stitching has stayed in place. I am not very good at sewing, but the Brother GX37 Lightweight Full Featured Sewing Machine has been easy to use. Jolene, my wife has an older Brother sewing machine which she does not use, she said it is harder to use and the foot comes off easily. I received the Brother GX37 Lightweight Full Featured Sewing Machine for the Spark Reviewer program and I would recommend this product to anyone who likes to sew and likes to have fun with the different stitching. My wife will mainly use it.
BROTHER GX37 LIGHTWEIGHT FULL-FEATURED SEWING MACHING HAS SO MANY WONDERFUL FEATURES SO LIGHT BUT HAS EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF I LOVE ALL OF THE OPTIONS. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I HAVE HAD A NEW SEWING MACHINE, IT IS AN INCREDIBLE SEWING MACHINE, BASICLY THREADS ITSELF AND IS SO EASY TO OPERATE. I MUST ADMIT I WAS A LITTLE INTIMIATED WHEN I SAW ALL THE OPTIONS AND DIFFERENT FEATURES IT HAS AND THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO USE IT, BUT ONCE I STARTED CHECKING IT OUT AND TRIED SEWING SOMETHING WITH THE MACHINE I LOVE IT AND IT IS SIMPLE TO USE AND YOU GET SO MANY DIFFERENT STITCHES AND OPTIONS. MY HUSBAND SAID I ACTED LIKE A KID IN A CANDY STORE WHEN I FIRST OPENED THE BOX AND WAS INSPECTING THE GUIDE AND CHECKING OUT ALL THE FEATURES. BASICLY IT'S READY TO USE STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, ALSO IT'S SIMPLE TO USE FOR A LEARNING OR AN EVERY NOW AND THEN SEWER BUT HAS EVERYTHING FOR AN AVID SEWER TOO. NOW I WILL BE SEWING A LOT MORE, AND ENJOYING MAKING THINGS.
This is the first sewing machine that I've ever owned. I got it because it's similar to the one I am using in my sewing class, it's just a newer version my teacher said when I showed her a picture of it. I learned how to put to do the bobbin and threading in class, but it was easier to do on this one than the one I use in class. The how to use dvd came in handy when I got confused but it moved too fast and I had to keep stopping it and going back to have it repeat what it said. I'm a beginner at sewing so I think this is a good on to begin with and my sewing teacher says it's a good starter sewing machine. I play around with it after sewing class two days a week experimenting with the different stitches. I haven't reached the point where I've learned to change the needles and what all the stitches are used for yet but so far I am enjoying using my first sewing machine very much. As a beginner or mid-level sewing machine this will work, but my sewing teacher says that anything major like heavy weight denim or thick fabric will probably be difficult with this machine. As for me since I don't know what I'm doing just yet and completely just following the instructions given to me, this machine is awesome and works pretty good, but unfortunately, I can only do simple things with it. I wish I could be of more help.
I was given this product free for my honest opinion. I have been a seamstress, not professional but, a seamstress nonetheless since I was about 13. My grandmother, a professional seamstress, taught me how to sew at an early age and it carried over into my teen years with Home Economics (when it was part of school curriculum). I have had a "Jeans Machine" sewing machine for about 30 years and it was about time to replace it anyway. This machine is incredibly easy to learn and use. Threading is simple, bobbin spooling very easy. It has some changes I'm not used to but will, in time, become accustomed to it. No quirks with the function of the sewing machine at all. The instruction pamphlet is very detailed as well as the disk that came with the machine, which I have yet to have to use to figure out the machine. I has a 37-stitch configuration, button holes, blind stitching, straight stitching, zig zag and the like. I love the variety of stitches available and, hopefully, I'll have a chance to use most of them. The machine operation is very smooth and quiet. My old machine sounds like a lawn mower these days, so it is a nice change. The machine also comes with a horizontal bobbin load with a clear case so no more, oops, I'm out of bobbin thread. I LOVE THIS FEATURE. I have always had vertical loading bobbins and, number 1, hard to manipulate (kind of a feel type load) but, this has the horizontal load "as nature intended" so to speak bobbin. I would recommend this product to anyone who is experienced and even the newbie just starting out. VERY user friendly machine. Plus Brother is a brand you can trust.
The Brother GX37 Lightweight, Full-Featured Sewing Machine with 37 built-in stitches and 1-step auto-size buttonhole is very easy to use. This sewing machine makes complicated sewing so much easier. For one it does not weigh a ton like some of the other sewing machines I have used. The bobbin is so easy to load up with thread as well as threading the needle to get started. The dial selection makes it a breeze to sow the stitch you need. The machine delivers a very smooth feed of thread that gives you a perfect sowing job every time. Oh and the Auto button hole feature is awesome. Make your size selection and it is done. Highly recommend this sowing machine to all who are looking for a light weight sowing machine that is a breeze to use. This baby looks good and well put together.
The Brother GX37 Sewing Machine is a joy to use. Some improvements over the old models include: self-threading bobbin, automatic one-step buttonhole maker, and an auto-size feature(There is a place on the buttonhole foot to insert a button, and the machine will automatically make the right size buttonhole for it!). I would encourage everyone to view the instructional DVD, and then set up and use the machine while playing the DVD again. It's a very good idea to practice on a piece of fabric, so you can learn the ins and outs of the machine. I found a few things that didn't go exactly as the DVD said they would. I was able to adjust my application of the directions, and got the same great results(For me, they were; the auto-size feature on the buttonhole foot makes the buttonholes a bit too big. I just use a slightly smaller button than I'm going to put on the garment, and the buttonhole is the right size. Also, I have the bobbin thread a little longer than the video recommends. I like the see-through cover on the bobbin case, so I can see at a glance how much thread there is. Most of all, I like being able to go over the DVD instructions, and being able to pause the video and pick up again when I've mastered the instructions. The decorative stitches add a lovely touch to linens and quilts. There is so much more I'll be able to do with this machine, than with my old basic Brother. I went online and signed up for online sewing courses, and checked out Youtube--the possibilities are endless!
I am very happy using this GX37 machine for the very firs time.. I have been using the Brothers brand for many, many years and, I've seen great improvements.. threading the machine and using is like 1.2.3. Although they state that's its light weight it is very very sturdy when in use.. the fabric is not slipping and I was able to double a piece of denim and, it handled it beautifully. All the parts were included in the box included the DVD with all the instructions needed.. After watching the DVD which I highly recommend, you will have no issues or questions.. A plus is the three cutter at the right hand side, very convenient.. Thank You!
I received my Brothers GX37 and started unpacking it. It was so securely packaged to protect it in shipping. I took a photo of the machine and do hope it comes through so you can see how nice of a machine this Brothers GX37 is. It came with a book of instructions and a CD to show you all the all the different functions it has. It came with a small package of attachments and four bobbins of which one was in the machine full of white thread. It has a slide out piece so you can sew on small openings like sleeves. It also has a self threading needle. I'm still trying to figure that part our. I've never had one before and its a bit tricky. But will continue to try. I really like this Brothers GX37 but its seems to be a bit confusing when it comes to picking out a stitch you want and the many different knobs to change it. It's like it takes to many steps to get it changed. I'm not a fancy seamstress so there is a lot I won't use but who knows, with a new machine and all the instructions, I just might advance myself. I would recommend this machine. It also came with a cover which is real nice to keep dust off of it. It fits real well on my sewing table in my craft room. I think you would really like this machine and if you are an advanced seamstress you will love all the different things it will do. I is lightweight and it is a full featured sewing machine with 37 built in stitches and 1-step auto-size buttonhole. It will even sew buttons on your clothing. Enjoy.
I should begin by saying that I am not a seamstress, much less a professional seamstress, although my talented mother could turn out retail-quality work on a treadle machine, if she had to. If you're an ambitious tailor and not afraid of challenges, then this portable is probably not the machine for you. You'll want to move up in price point and features to a professional, stand-alone cabinet machine. However, if you're like me, the Brother GX37 will probably be fine for your needs. I don't have a dedicated sewing or craft room, so I wanted a machine that was lightweight and portable, one that didn't take up a lot of room when set up for use, or tucked away in the back of my closet. I wanted a sewing machine to repair rips and unraveling seams. Once in a while, a simple project on HGTV or DIY will capture my interest. The occasional Halloween costume (with finished buttonholes) is not beyond me, and this machine will do all that and more. I have two make-or-break concerns with sewing machines, and I was surprised to find that this machine passed both tests. I'm not going to use a machine that requires a degree in mechanical engineering just to fill a bobbin. If the instructions are overly-complicated, have too many steps, or take an inordinate amount of time, I'm going to move on to another model. I feel the same way about changing out a presser foot. Both processes should be, but often are not, simple and intuitive, and Brother got both of them right. If you're a beginner, this is a great machine for learning how to sew. It's easy to operate and understand, and you'll probably only ever use five or six of the included 37 different stitches, but the point is, they're there if you ever want or need them. By the time you outgrow this machine, you'll know most of what you'd ever need to know about sewing.
