If you're looking for a decent fireproof and waterproof safe, I have no reservations about recommending this one. Sure, the exterior and interior is made out of plastic but judging by the weight of it (150 lbs) there must be some very thick metal between these plastic layers. It feels very rigid and solid. The keypad is programmable for personal codes that range from three to eight digits. A nice benefit that I didn't notice when I ordered it is the inclusion of a clear plastic cover the covers the keypad that lights up the keys whenever it is flipped up, to expose the keypad, or down, to cover the keypad. This allows you to easily open the safe in the dark without the need for a flashlight. Two emergency override keys are provided so you can open the safe if the keypad malfunctions or its batteries die. The one complaint I would have is that the interior shelves, which are also made out of plastic, are quite flimsy. Don't plan on putting anything somewhat heavy on them or they'll bend into a U-shape. I'm thinking about custom cutting some plywood that will fit in the grooves and replacing them. Overall, it's a very solid, well constructed safe. It also claims to be fireproof up to 1700 degrees for an hour as well as water proof. Hopefully, I will never find out if that's true or not.
I could not be more pleased. Exactly what I was expecting. There is everything I would need for my use. Plenty of storage, convenient lock using digital or a key. Well built and should last me the rest of my life. The convenience of having it delivered to my home and not having to depend on someone else. I am so very pleased with the service. Thank you.
The included removable wheels and handle made getting this safe from my garage, where it was delivered, to my den by myself quite easy. Setup was a snap. Only negative is that I would have liked to know in advance that the safe door needs to be open once a week to reduce the chance of moisture in the safe from molding the stored documents.
Solid product, spaceous for an affordable safe. Nearly 200 lbs. Easy to install with a built in dolly, but the handle removes to make it difficult to move after installed. I haven't had it long enough to know how long the batteries will last. Walmart raised the price about $85 dollars from the price I purchased it at. That may have affected my decision to buy at the higher price.
Not only is this safe sturdy, easy to use and gives me peace of mind; it weighs 151 pounds. I didn't know how I would get it in my home by myself because I have heart problems. Have no fear, it comes with its own attached dolley. Don't worry, they're not making it easier for thieves/just me. Once I put the safe where I wanted it, I unscrewed the Dolly and fastened the safe securely to the floor. It's Awesome all the way around! It's a must have for hand guns, jewelry, coins, etc. Plenty of room.
Very impressed with the delivery and all features of the product. Size and compartments are perfect for our needs. While we cannot anchor this to floor/wall, the weight is such that I doubt anyone will attempt to carry this off. Hopefully we will never have an occasion to critique the waterproof and fire proof qualities of the safe.
I had more than one reason to return this safe. 1. It arrived damaged. Apparently it was dropped on the way. 2. Shelves wouldn't stay in slots (could be a result of the damage) 3. I got an impression that it is not a thief-proof safe. It is pretty much a plastic shell with some kind of sand in it. When I pushed on the walls they actually popped all the way inside the safe. I checked walls with a magnet and there was no signs of steel. It may be a good fireproof/waterproof safe but not thief-proof.
Nice safe. However if you need to store many thing in it in levels, it's probably not as great. The supplied shelves are very cheap and can't hold anything. Maybe couple if papers.
Was Badly Damage during shipment, the side of the safe was busted and some kind of powdery kind of cement or sand is leaking.Never trsted the safe, its looks nice but looks like made of plastic, can't stand the punishment of shipping.
We purchased a First Alert “safe” to keep important documents, jewellery and cash. Unfortunately, when we were robbed, nothing inside of it was safe. It was all stolen. The thieves used a hammer to smash the door almost off it's hinges, spilling the fire retardant powder everywhere. They then proceeded to walk the powder all through the house. From the forensic evidence that the police collected they estimated that the thieves were between 10-16 years old. It was very disappointing to see that something designed to keep people out was so easily accessed. I wrote to First Alert unfortunately, they did not respond to my email. Spend the money. Buy a better safe!
