Long, long ago, in a time of magic and dragons, there lived a girl named Rapunzel who had the most beautiful, radiant hair the world had ever seen. But Rapunzel's life was far from wonderful. She lived as a servant of Gothel, a jealous, scheming witch who kept her hidden deep in a forbidding forest, guarded by the enormous dragon Hug and surrounded by an enchanted glass wall. However, in a twist of fate, Rapunzel's discovery of a magic paintbrush leads her on a journey that will unravel a web of deception, bring peace to tow feuding kingdoms, and ultimately lead her to love with the handsome Prince Stefan. She succeeds with the help of Penelope, the least intimidating of dragons! Stunningly produced in computer animation, the movie stars Academy Award - Winner Anjelica Huston as Gothel and Cree Summer as Penelope. The movie features a song by Samantha Mumba and music by the London Symphony Orchestra. Art Gallery, Documentary, DVD ROM, Interactive Menus, Scene Selection, Trailers. Presented in Full Frame and Widescreen Formats; "Dress-up Rapunzel Game".

My 5 year-old triplets and 4 year-old love this movie and will sit still for all of it! There are so many engaging characters, like the talking dragon Penelope, and Rapunzel herself. They love her magic paintbrush and how it transports her to magical places. The mean character, Gothel, can be a little scary, but they enjoy how good wins in the end over Gothel. The DVD was very reasonably priced, and had a lot of nice extras at the end of the movie. My kids really enjoyed the choices of activities, and I liked having the connection with art and Rapunzel to use as a teaching lesson. Highly recommend.
I didn't know about the whole flood of Barbie movies, but then my daugher picked one to watch one day while getting her hair cut. It was so cute that I came home to see how much it cost to buy....(and I was secretly kind of wondering how the movie ended!) I got this movie for less than $5!! We watched it...and loved it. It is an adorable movie.
I bought this for my little girl. She loves it she wants all the Barbie movie. So this was a must. Lovely movie.
My three year old daughter loves to watch this movie. It's her favorite Barbie movie out of the 5 she has. She's always excited when she gets a new one to watch.
My 2 daughters and I really enjoy watching barbie movies. I never thought the would be that good. My youngest just got this for x-mas and so far we have watched it everyday. I can't wait to get all of them!!!
In the second installment of the cgi Barbie movies, we see a reworking of the fairy tale of Rapunzel. As with all of the Barbie movies, the themes tend toward "believing in yourself", "loyalty to friends" and "family love", all of which are very worthwhile to portray. My daughter loves these movies, and this is no exception. As a parent, I am glad to have found the Barbie series as a safe set of movies my daughter can watch without my having to worry about violence or questionable content. In their treatment of Rapunzel, they have completely reworked the entire fairy tale to such a degree that it barely resembles the original at all. They do pay homage to the famous letting down of hair as a rope scene in what I found to be a fitting and rather amusing manner. Anjelica Huston gives a memorable performance as the evil witch Gothel, but I like to point out that all of the voice cast in these movies are fantastic, and many of the voice actors are repertory (they return to perform various roles in many of the Barbie movies). This movie is safe to view with young children (my daughter is four), and actually has an enjoyable plot even from an adult perspective to where you won't feel so irritated by overly juvenile characters. Just be ready for your daughters to want the associated toys...
My family are big fans of the Barbie movies not because we played with the dolls (because we haven't much at all) but because the stories are fun and magical, they are something that entertain and engage the imagination of my daughter, and visually are pleasing. It's also awesome that they teach self-worth and are relatable in a real life stand point for my ten year old. We love the music and singing and dancing and just wish that more movies were this fulfilling for the whole family.
I bought this and 2 other Barbie dvds for my little girl's 4th birthday. She absolutely loves this movie. She has watched it several times since her birthday. I actually even get interested in it while watching.
I purchased this for my 3 y/o daughter and she loves to watch it. She has become a big fan of the the Barbie movies and all the ones we have bought are a big hit with her.
My daughter is nearly 5 and still likes this movie very much. We have had it a long time. She particularly likes the magic paint brush and the painting coming alive. She loves to do art work and this fits right in with her pyschie... It is tolerable for adults to watch as well, as well know we get stuck watching these things with them. I personally can watch the nutcracker one more often than this one but this one is great too.
