the waterer is sturdy plastic and holds a lot for water - this makes it quite heavy when full. Initially it is hard to close but after opening and closing it a few times it gets easier. ll in all it serves my 6 girls nicely for several days - a week actually.and it stays fairly clean. we're happy with it.
Quality is great. Got it sooner than expected.
We have more chickens so we bought this again. No problems with either of ours.
Great quality and well worth the money and it's made in USA
This waterer doesn't work as well as our one-gallon waterers. Sometimes the jug will be almost full but the tray is bone dry; which means the chickens don't have anything to drink. We're trying to make it work because we love that these will hold three gallons of water.
I agrees with others about the water flow. I made sure it was in the open position but still does not let out enough water. I think the hole for water flow needs to be bigger. What I do like is it is much easier to handle than the stainless steel water fountain that I was using and I like that I can see the level of water remaining with out having to take it out of the run.
did not like that it is to difficult to unlock and lock lid
For non-hanging use, this must be 100% level in every direction or it will steadily leak, leaving it empty after just a few hours. For hanging use, when the base twists on there is no notch or latch to hold it and it can easily come off when flipping it over to hang it ... thus losing all the water instantly. If you manage to avoid the above issues, frequently no water will come out and the trough will be bone dry. I could have saved time just throwing $30 into the trash, because that's where this went. For a much better design, check out the Manna Pro Poultry Drinker. I got that to replace this piece of junk and have been very pleased with it.
Worked ok the first time or two. You must put your finger in the hole to turn it over or you get all the water on YOUR FEET. Have had it for a month now it will not close at all. TRASHED IT! To much trouble to return to Walmart for them to send it to someone else! Do not waste your money on this piece of trash.
As one of the other reviewers said, the thing will be full of water but the tray will be empty. I have to keep an extra bowl of water in my coop for emergencies. I've tried it hanging and free standing and still can't depend on it having any water in the tray. I have ordered some water nipples from Amazon to build my own waterer from a 5 gallon bucket. Save your money and do not buy one of these.
