I attached this saw to my portable saw mill and it cut up several board feet of lumber from logs on my property. It did amazing and never had any issues. Really beats trying to keep a gas chainsaw running and so much quieter! I like the brake feature so the chains stops immediately when the switch is released.
I only used it once but it is easy to assemble and easier to use. A great price too. Someone reviewed it previously stating that the oil leaks when not in use. It states that in the manual and recommends emptying the oil tank.
Wow, I was skeptical about an electric chain saw, but I was tired of pulling on the cord of my gas powered saw. Each year it had to go to the repair shop for something; it was just a money pit! My Sun Joe assembled easily and was a charm to use. I had just as much power and cut from this unit as my gas powered. It was used twice in the first month I received it and works wonderful. Thanks !
The saw was easy to assemble and ready to use within 20 minutes of unpacking and reading the manual. The material seams to be of good quality and it's sturdy and well balanced. It has the power to cut through large limbs with little effort. I cut for about 30 minutes and did not run out of bar and chain oil.
I did a ton of research before buying this product. The reviews and the price are what led me to make this purchase. I was concerned with the name Sun Joe. I had never heard of it and to be honest I thought it sounded like some cheap brand that one would find in a tent sale or something. So far, I have not been disappointed. This saw works great! I was skeptical of a chainsaw being electric as opposed to gas, but the prospect of low maintenance appealed to me. All I have to do with this saw is keep the lubricating oil filled up. The chain lubes itself as long as you keep the oil filled up. I had a tree in the front yard that I tackled with this saw. I easily cut branches that were at least 16" diameter, maybe more, I didn't measure. It held up quite well. I read a few reviews about the chain coming off frequently, but I have not had this problem. As long as you keep an eye on the tension during use it will stay on. It fell off once on me and that was all I needed to remember to keep an eye on it. Never had a problem after that. I used it heavily for 3 days now and have not thrown the chain off again. The only complaint I have with the product is that the instruction manual was confusing in a couple of places. It stressed that the chain would continue to move for a couple seconds once you let off of the trigger, but mine does not do this. I thought maybe I had the tension too tight but that was not the case. I was worried that maybe I was going to burn up the motor so I emailed the company and they told me that it was fine. The assembly instructions for mounting the chain were confusing for me too because I was missing a hex nut that was supposed to be holding on the bar. Sun Joe is sending me the missing nut, but my saw actually works just fine without it. It has been over a week and I have not received the part yet, so those are the reasons that I only gave the saw 4 stars. You can consider the saw a 5 star buy though. I doubt many saws will be shipped missing the part that I was missing. I really like this saw. I like it so much that I also ordered the Sun Joe SWJ803E-CMO Electric Pole Chainsaw. I have a ton of high branches to cut and some 4-5 inch diameter ivy that is strangling my tree in the backyard. The pole saw has been amazing as well. ****DON'T FORGET TO BUY THE OIL WITH IT.
I really tortured it, cutting logs lengthwise since I don't have a log splitter. The motor got hot and there was a plastic-type smell but it kept working and didn't need to cool off. I would've given it 5 stars except the chain tightening screw fell out and got lost. Easy enough to replace with a 1-1/4" 8/32 thread screw. I cranked an 8/24 thread nut on the end so it couldn't fall out again. Also it has a skip-tooth chain. I'll try to get another chain for it that isn't skip-tooth.
The first one went dead on me after not much use. and the replacement works well but will not cut a straight line it pulls to the right and jams in the wood a lot. I just bought a new chain for it and hope that fixes the problem. I will say the co dealt with the replacement very well, they even paid for the return of the item and shipped the replacement right away. I bought it because I have a snow Joe and love it.
I have a very old 16 inch electric saw that I have used for 30 years. I have replace the blade and had it sharpened. Have had the chain off and on the saw many times. The old saw is very light and I can saw limbs with one hand. But I decided to get a new one as it needs a new blade. The old one is beyond sharpening. This Sun Joe was very heavy. No one hand sawing. But I have some large limbs to cut. The blade would not stay on. I tried twice. I found the instructions hard to follow, Little pictures that are difficult to interpret. The second time seemed like the chain was around the turning knob well, although there did not seen to be a good grove in the knob. I loosened the tension nut and used the end of the wrench to pull the chain tight before tightening the nut by inserting it into a groove and pressing but as soon as I pressed the switch the chain fell off? So I returned it. I ordered a 16 inch Wen that appears to come with the blade attached.
This is a terrible piece of equipment, it cut two small Limbs, less than 2 inches thick, and it stopped, just stopped! I checked to see if it still had power, changed the Outlets and re-plugged it in again, checked the Oil, checked everything. I going to go to Ace and but me a Black
