Most digital trunking scanners cost between $400 and $600. This one can be purchased for around $250 from Wal-Mart.
I was used to an analog police scanner up to this point. But when my older scanner finally stopped working and I decided on this model scanner after much comparing. This scanner is a digital. It is a nice scanner... but beware... if you aren't used to this type of police scanner just know that programming it was much harder to figure out then the analog. Infact, I took mine to Radio Shack and they did it for me. lol
When I first got this I tried to program it myself but it wasn't working the way it should've been.. I took to a friend of mine who was able to hook it up to his computer and programmed the whole thing for me. Ever since then its been working like a champ!! However, I was a little disappointed that the speaker was on the bottom. I had to put the booster thing on the bottom to lift the scanner up to hear it. It's been ok to have since. I am going from a stand up scanner to this scanner. Same make and model but I don't have to worry about this falling and the antenna breaking on me. Great scanner and I would recommend to friend.
This scanner is great! I've only had it about a week and I did have some trouble with programming, but it now picks up what I wanted (my county fire, sheriff, and ambulance). I live out in the country and my house was built before they used studs, so the walls are solid wood. The reception on this scanner is excellent. I only wish I'd looked at all of them on Walmart as this exact scanner was cheaper from one of their other vendors. I love it anyway.
Excellent choice. A bit of a challenge to manually program. I recommend subscribing to RadioReference.com. Programming is so much easier although I had to manually add a couple of local trunk groups we wanted to listen to. We love it
Scanner works great especially where I'm located as some of the local law enforcement runs P25 mixed in with analog. I do wish the antenna worked in the vehicle, but no biggie, just getting a mobile antenna for it instead. Lots of storage and customization available. Excellent scanner
Product is good. Problem is the instructions say to connect to a computer and install codes from a website it gives you, but it doesn't tell you that you must pay for a subscription to download the codes. But you can get the codes and enter them manually
Works pretty good. I could not begin to learn how to program it- so complicated! Luckily, I have a friend with the same scanner. Just make sure the frequencies in your area are not scrambled. And be aware that even though you subscribe to radioreference.com , you may still have to buy the software to download the frequencies at around $39.00. It took me awhile to get started, but I love it, it works great! Love how the lights flash blue for police, red for fire, etc.
I would give this scanner five stars except for the lack of software. These are virtually impossible to program without software and Whistler doesn't provide any, you have to BUY third party software. Huh? What is Whistler thinking? After you buy the software for $35 you'll need a Radioreference account so you can download the data. $65 later its a great scanner. The Uniden comes with all that for free and it's much easier to get it going without having to go buy 3rd party software.
Fedx driver droped box on concret walk way outside front door.very careless.
