Did you know that the original country crock is accidentally vegan?! I am Spice free, dairy free and tomato free for my little one and making a thanksgiving feast for everyone from scratch was a monumental task. Having country crock on hand and knowing it's safe to use so I can continue to feed my baby was awesome! It tastes amazing and is good for you, in moderation ofcourse. This butter is a childhood aesthetic for me. It's what my daddy used when I was a little girl and I use it now I like it because it's easy to spread even when it comes straight from the fridge and the tub that I get lasts me a good week week and a half and we use a lot of butter in My Home
I bought this for 30 years and my parents too. Then the changed the recipe and it tasted awfull and got molded fast on it when it didn't expired I threw it away. Now they said they went back to their. Original recipe so I bought it again because I loved the old recipe and it never got moldy. The flavor still isn't the same and it got molded right away, I removed all the mold 3 weeks ago and again it's real moldy again and it doesn't expired unto summer 2018. Very depressing.
As a chef, restaurant owner, and long time consumer with zero extra time in my hands, I feel compelled to write a review. At first, we hated the new container. It is flimsy and cheap. I thought maybe that is why the spread inside was so runny.... Perhaps the thin container allowed the contents to come to warm temperature quicker. So I went on a scavenger hunt in my city buying up all the round tubs. During this time, several dairy managers shared their disdain in regard to the tubs and that people were complaining about the new Country Crock. While on my last, glorious round tub, I transferred some of a new one into the old tub and realized that this was indeed a new recipe. And it is is just terrible. While I prefer real butter, my customers enjoy familiarity on their toast. Plus, I grew up on Country Crock and it is far more affordable in my cafe. Guess it's time to buy Blue Bonnet... Or pony up for the real stuff. I cannot serve this runny, yellow, artificial tasting gunk to my customers. So, please, please, Country Crock developers and executives... Time to review your recipe and perhaps try some due diligence this time.
I have been using country crock almost my entire life. I'm unable to eat real butter. CC was always a great alternative. When I first used the spread from what I originally thought was just packaging, I noticed that when heated in a frying pan, it started to clump and stick to the pan. It created a not so nice crust on the food. Completely ruined it. After purchasing a new tub, it happened again when I was cooking eggs on a low heat. Made them stick and the yoke broke. I'm going to have to find a new brand. Very disappointed. I use the one with vitamin D because I've had low levels in the past.
This new recipe is terrible! It tastes bad and you can't cook with it at all. We used it on mashed potatoes the other day and the leftovers tasted spoiled within a day. We chocked it up to a bad batch but tried to sauté potatoes tonight and stunk up the house. The butter separated into oil and a nasty, stringy slime. This container is going in the trash and we will be buying another brand until the old recipe comes back.
So disappointed when using this to cook with. When it melts it leaves a hardened film that feels like plastic. It also burns in the oven in less time than directed, on temperature recipe called for. I spread it on the top of a biscuit and it left a whitish film!
This new "simple recipe" may be better for us, but it certainly is NOT better tasting. It is the most foul margarine I've ever had the displeasure of eating. I'm allergic to milk, so butter isn't an option. I've been eating the original kind for 28 years, and though wary when I bought the "new recipe" last week, I put it on hot fresh biscuits. I bit into one and it tasted like a pickle. I thought it was odd, so I checked the new ingredients and saw that vinegar was an addition from the old kind. The next day I started melting some to sauté some veggies, and my entire kitchen smelled like fried pickles. Vinegar?! WHY???
I type this with a heavy heart. The disappointment along with the suffering my taste buds have endured from the new recipe cannot be put into words. Please create a classic version of country crock and you can continue to sell this new version, like in the 80s with new Coke and Coke classic. I have also struggled to explain to my children how the container says original yet it is a new recipe...please let me know what I should tell them because I am at a loss for words. True leaders not only hear the people they also take action. if you lead we will follow. I will continue to spread the word about this change because there has to be a butter way.
