If setup and overall operational simplicity is what you are after, then the My Cloud Pro Series PR4100 is for you. It works like a dream and updates automatically. I am extremely pleased with the purchase.
PR4100 Pro is a nice small sized NAS that's quiet and easy to setup. I set it up to be a backup device for my MAC's and created a Plex media server as well. So far I haven't been disappointed or had any issues. The only thing I I was surprised at was the installable software like Twonky is no longer supported because Twonky is no longer around.
Received product in good condition. I let it sit for 24 hours to let it come up to temperature. Live in Ohio and it was cold out. The directions for setting the unit it up were not exactly right, but I was able to figure it out. Yes I did read the download documents available. Found them to be very beneficial. Everything went well with setup until I attempted to upgrade the firmware. It would not happen. Finally, emailed support. Got a response right away stating they needed a support file from the product. I sent it right away. I did receive a response a day later with a link to the support site with multiple documents for me to self troubleshoot the issue. Spent 3 days troubleshooting, lost my weekend, and still did not resolve the issue, even after totally resetting everything to factory. Not a happy camper. Responded to support and asked to have my case escalated. Told them I felt as if I had just bought a new car and after getting it home, found it wouldn't start and all the dealership would do is send me links on how to troubleshoot the issue. That would not be acceptable and neither was the support I had received from WD. I got a response later that day that my case was escalated and that a team was working on the issue. A few days later, I received an actual solution to the issue. Within 30 minutes the issue was resolved. I would have rated the product 5 stars, except for the initial support I received.
SO on April 15 2022 new firmware was sent. BUT all users were lost along with getting data Had to create logins a real pain and to make matters worse a drive died . I received lots of emails regarding update but they said it would work locally only. No mention of having to recreate users etc.
Back up softwares much more complicated than home cloud previous versions and not a user friendly interface. Auto back up spotty. Information about software not advertised right
