Excellent System drive

I have found buying the 4 drives and installing them in the enclosure to be very fast and easy. Hard to get it wrong and it allows buying better quality drives at a much cheaper price than the bundled ones. The drive is extraordinarily stable and the RAID 5 configuration maximizes space. I have used the USB backup and PLEX apps and found them to be useful and work well. My next foray will be into the iTunes app which will definitely make access to my iTunes library simpler and not dependent on the app being open in the computer. Great media center

This is the third WD NAS I have purchased. The first being an EX4, which I never felt was adequate, but it worked well enough over eight years ago. I then, four years later, purchased a PR4100 and relegated the EX4 to my backup to my PR4100. Well, the EX4 was no longer serviceable, and basically quit working, so I bought this PR4100 to replace the EX4. These PR 4100's work so much better than the EX4 ever did. And while I put off upgrading to WD OS-5 for as long as possible, to allow WD to work out the bugs, I did upgrade about six months ago, and it seems quite stable and user friendly. I keep little to no files on my computer, but run the primary NAS as my C Drive in RAID 10, and then do a synchronized back up that NAS onto a second NAS, also in RAID 10. My data isn't worth the storage devices I have on them, but there should be a slim chance that I should ever loose what I have using this arrangement. WD is THE BEST for helping resolve any problems I have ever had with any of these NAS units, and I use Red Drives in the bays, and knock on wood, they have held up great so far. I don't use PLEX or any other APPs other than my backup APP, so I cannot give you any information on that, but I do regularly use the remote APP on my iPhone/iPad, and OS-5 and the newest APP work quite well, with few failures to connect, which was very common on OS-3 with the older APP.

Moved 4x10TB drives from my old EX4100 without a problem. Took the new PR4100 about a day to recreate the MyCloud links

You definitely need this NAS!

The rapid speed that our new PR4100 works, in relation to the slow speed our old EX4 operated is significant. This is a marked improvement in our NAS requirements.

Added PR4100 to EX2100

I own and EX2100 with mirrored 3TB drives. It's getting close to 2.5TB of data so wanted upgrade and provide disaster recovery. Purchased the PR4100 with two 12TB Red Pro drives. The drive set up and move of the data from the EX2100 went well. Also purchased 2 8TB Red Pro drives for the EX2100 that will not be mirrored. This will be placed in my son's home in another state. I will back up my data to the EX2100 and my son will back up his data to the PR4100. This last part of the disaster recovery plan will be put in place in a month so I can't comment on it now.

Nice, big, quiet network storage for home

I use this mainly for file storage and backup -- it works great for that. I copied all my CDs and DVDs to the disks. The music streaming works fine over our home wireless network. I have not converted my DVDs to streaming format, so I access them as iso files. They work pretty well that way with infrequent, brief stalls due to wireless network latency. It just sits in the corner, not making any noise (except for fan noise during startup) waiting to be accessed by our computers. Overall, I am very happy with it.

PR4100 after a couple of years

The WD PR4100 has been an excellent fit for my home. Very reliable, quick. Aside from a little confusion setting up (a distant memory now), it's performance has been flawless. My PR4100 is configured with 4 x 8 TB using RAID5. RAID5 is a good solution for home.

Excellent NAS, I love Western Digital

Excellent NAS, I love Western Digital, I have 3 drives MyCloud Network more than 7 years, never any issue, always runing well and the best support, now I update to the My Cloud Pro Series PR4100 and is much better, faster and now runing with the new OS5, forcing to update for the end of support of OS3, in the beginning of the 2022 year. Is easy to set up, to use, work faster, nice look, I recomend it...nice...nice. I used the Lenovo NAS too and I suffered issues with drives, is a little confusing to use all the features and the support is no great. Now this one is only for backup.

Very good system with one exception

Very good system with one exception. I tried to upgrade the RAM and used the vendor approved RAM modules to take it from 4GBy total to 16GB total. Once I upgraded it I started to move my files over and had several instances where the system would lock up and force me to reboot to get it going again. I finally decided to go back to the 4GB chips that came with the system and haven't had any problems with it since. I am not sure why this is a problem it should be a simple process as it was described in the user guide but it certainly wasn't. The help files and support documents do not give any fix to this problem either. Poor support documentation. Otherwise, I truly like this system.

Don't update to cloud 5.0 from 3.0

Seems Ok but don't like how WD took away the cloud service for sync back up. Now have to pay good sync to keep my files synced w/my computer. all because I upgrade to cloud 5.0.
