This is the 3rd one I buy (for different locations). We love it because it improves wifi signal in the houses (3 floors, 4000 sq ft and more). It's also nice to have a speaker and be able to ask questions to google.
They are a great upgrade to the Gen 1 google Wi-Fi. They are easy to install and coverage is great. Even used 2 of the older models to expand the coverage more.
The setup was straightforward. They function well. Download speeds from points are acceptable and functional for TV and surfing the web. I have not used the wifi from the access points for gaming. It solved the problem of weak wifi signals through the house.
Frequent problems with access points dropping out of the mesh. Poor signal quality at relatively short distances.
Sketchy 3rd party seller (Wombat Reserve) Router stopped working. Called google nest customer service and they were not able to find any record of the serial number from the device. They still tried to help fix it but were unsuccessful. Tried to return it but return was denied, even though it's within Walmart's 90 day window for returns. Been a week without functioning wifi and the inconvenience is worth way more than the money I saved buying from here.
These wifi routers are the worst. They will drop randomly during the day, give you no control over the channels so you can't diagnose the issue, claim to be plug and play, you call their support and they give you conflicting answers (as in you have too many or too little devices in your home) and they never get things resolved other than just trying the simple fix your DNS to google and try again. These are horrible, go for netgear or motorola or any other company known for their routers and save a headache. Nothing against the seller, they delivered on time and everything was as came from manufacturer.
I had this system for 3 years and was very happy with it. Then, over the last couple months, it got progressively worse (seeming to coincide with Google's firmware updates). The points and devices do not stay connected more than a couple hours. I kept having to reset the network multiple times. Went through hours of hoops with Google customer service. They blamed the device and wouldn't replace it because it was “out of warranty.” I replaced it with a brand new system and the problem persists. It's clearly a software issue on their side and they aren't patching it. It renders my Gigabit fiber unusable at home. I returned it and am going in another direction with my mesh network.
The product is already open and used. One satellite doesn't power on. This seller doesn't look honest. I won't buy a product from this seller whatsoever.
The product was listed as new, but I received a plain cardboard box with 3 parts and a cord. No packaging, no manual, clearly been used already. I went back to verify and the product page says nothing about it being used or refurbished. I contacted Walmart, who refunded my purchase but made no apology for the problem as they said it was a 3rd party seller. I went to Walmart to shop, not a 3rd Party. All I knew is that I was purchasing a NEW WIFI mesh system from Walmart. None of that happened. Definitely 1 star to the third party for selling me crap. 1 star to Walmart for allowing this to happen and not properly owning the problem. 1 star to the web site for not stating that it was a USED product.
Horrible. Connection is so effy. Everytime modem restarts for some reason, this router doesnot automatically connect to internet and only way to get it to work is by deleting the home completely and adding the router back. We have had it for about 5 months now and I have been through 6-7 cycle of trying to figure out why this thing is not working.
