I have read some negative reviews about this item, but I have been using it for 2 weeks, and so far, it performs flawlessly. It accurately measures food (large dog food), and dispenses right on time with little noise or fuss. I bought it for my girlfriend, and she loves it. No regrets
Good product. Arrived early . I had a similar auto feeder through petmate. So it was easy for me to set up. However for someone first time make sure you read the instructions. Finally before final setup confirm that there are no blinking text on the display. You have to press the 'enter' button one more time to freeze the settings. I did not do that , and the food did not dispense. However , in the instruction manual it mentions that you can manually dispense the food by holding down on the right hand arrow key for 30 secs.
We bought this product for a couple of reasons. First, our cat needed to go on a diet and it was a bit of a pain measuring it's food twice a day. Second, we travel from time to time and hate to leave a huge bowl of food out. This device works exactly as advertised. First, it is pretty darn precise with the amount of food specified to be dispensed, so our vet is happy. Second, it dispenses like clockwork, twice a day, every day, so it is ideal when we are away. It has good programmability, i.e., it can be set for any number of dumps at specific times. I will admit that our cat thought it was an alien at first, but she got over it within minutes. All in all, we are very happy with the Petmate Le Bistro Portion Control Automatic Pet Feeder. The attached photo shows it next to our new auto-water dish!
We bought this feeder with a little trepidation because of some of the negative reviews. I have to say we are very pleased with the unit. Its very easy to assemble and program. It works perfectly without and drama.
I bought this product just over a year ago. It was a really great idea. Have (or should say 'had') an overweight cat that couldn't be free fed--he's lost 7 lbs. It's been really handy. Just over a year later, it has died. My experience with Petmate Products (also had a water dish a year or so ago) is that they only last a year then you need to replace. There are not many other products out there that are comparable. I guess I just have to accept the fact that I'll have to replace it every year.
I recently replaced my old Petmate LeBistro. It's digital programming did not survive 10 years of storage in an unheated garage. I really appreciate the convenience of an automated feeder for a cat, and the Le Bistro works very well. That said, I prefer the size and construction of the old version. The new version is larger and not as sturdy. I purchased the 5-lb size but only the food hopper is smaller. The hopper/motor unit just sits on top of the food bowl ring - there is nothing to keep it in place. The first time I picked up the assembled unit, it fell apart. The hopper lid is difficult to open. My old LeBistro had none of these issues. Please return to the older design - at least for a cat.
This is the second one that I have bought if they would have made the motor better I would have given it a five but the gearing broke and I was not able to replace it overall it works great
Dog became obsessed with the product and would not leave the room where it was located. But if dog wouldn't have acted the way she did, would have worked out great.
Pretty disappointed... While it dispenses at the right time it also will randomly dispense little bits throughout the day and my cat can easily put her paw up there to knock more out. So now she has gained too much weight instead of losing it..
It stopped working about a week after I got it, just a few days ago. It seems the gears are stripped and the paddle wheels only turn if there is no weight (food) on them, and then only intermittently. I want a new one, or to return it, but the packaging for the one I bought is long gone.
