have had this fridge for over 2 years and has performed flawlessly. very close in price to the next size up. but this is the one that would fit in the rear of our 3rd row seating. never a regret. we use it all the time for long trips as well as after dinner leftovers. we don't have to rush home to put in the fridge...because it is in a fridge! really the best cooler ever ...never have to buy ice.
I had been looking to add refrigeration to my older cruising sailboat. Initially I considered the icebox conversion units, but there were three problems: 1- loss of an icebox for storage, 2- the installation pain (and they are not known for reliability) 3- the cost. Instead, I purchased a Dometic CF-050. I was able to keep my icebox for storage of dry goods. Installation was a non-issue - I had spave under the Nav. Station, where it fit perfectly. If it needs service, I won't have to play contortionist to troubleshoot the issue. The cost was about 1/3 that of an ice-box conversion unit. As a bonus, I can keep the unit if I ever sell my boat! The amp draw is low, and it seems to hold temperature well. After 2 years I would do it again!
Having lived in a van for close to year I honestly can't imagine life without this little fridge. This fridge is the perfect size for a solo traveler or someone looking to keep their food cold for a weekend on the road. It's surprisingly quiet which I thought would be in issue considering my bed was about 3ft from the fridge. In terms of durability I used my CF 18 everyday for about 7 months, traveled about 30k miles with it and was in temperatures ranging from 10°-100°+ and never once had any issues. Power draw is minimal and was easily able to run the unit off solar panels. Highly recommend!
We bought this to use as a fridge on our sailboat. While it was a 40' boat, it was old and sparse. This was going to be our fridge. Moved to a bigger boat with full systems and kept this until we squared things away. Our current freezer needs work so will convert that to a fridge and use this as a freezer. This box is amazing. Ice cream stays hard even in tropical weather. Best investment made! Love the dual power modes and the switching is perfect. Should this one ever die beyond repair, we won't hesitate to get another. Well worth the money.
I bought this fridge 9 summers ago. I've had to take it once to be repaired (a short - needed to be re-soddered). But considering that I pack this in my jeep where it comes everywhere all summer long... including when I go 4 wheeling... I'm very impressed with how it's performed and how reliable it's been. Especially when you think that it's been running pretty much 24/7 every summer (I just leave it in my jeep). I've used it both as a freezer and a fridge, although it's mostly used as a fridge. My only complaint is that it's a touch small. If I were to get a bigger one, I'd probably go with a 45L one. But for one/two people it's fine. I couldn't imagine camping/travelling without it. Will absolutely buy another Dometic when I decide to get a bigger fridge. And yes I know this reads like a paid ad. It's not. I live in the middle of nowhere in Northern Canada and have just been very very impressed with this so far.
Been away for 2 mths and my Cf 50 hasn't missed a beat
This been in our Dutchstar since we've owned the coach and the added freezer space is a big plus on long trips.
We have used this unit as a basement fridge in our motorhome, removed it to transport and dispense ice cream for a charity event. Works well on 110VAC or 12VDC. Its Achilles Heel is the under-engineered plastic latch: ours failed with less than 20 actuations.
Three lose screws on the cover for the fans and one dent. This is my first cooler from dometic model CF80. The cooler was just came ln today. So can not give durability rating. Cooler will be located in my pickup bed.
Had this for over a year now time for a review. It works as intended. Operation is quiet. Gets beer nice and cold. I think its got plenty of room for what it is and everything works well with the exception of the lid. The lid and hinge system is really junk. I believe the inefficiency of the lid leads to a lot of wasted energy and power loss as the cold escapes and causes the compressor to kick on quite often even without opening it. Id like to see some better weather stripping or some better seals to keep the cold in. The lid itself is designed to detach, and because of this its super wobbly, and has a tendency to come unattatched when you open the lid and accidentally hit it to one side or the other. It feels cheap and janky overall. The lock is barely that, and also feels very cheap. Its basically just holding the lid from popping open, but i would rather see a design like on other fridges were it has a latch that pulls the lid tight making a nice seal. I place a piece of reflectix bubble insulation between my items and the lid in attempts to keep some cold in, and i also keep a thick blanket on top of the lid to insulate a little. Overall the guts of this cooler have not disappointed. I just wish the lid/hinge/lock/o ring system was better. H
