I bought this hutch for my built-in desk, not knowing that it was designed to be attached to the back of it's matching desk. That said, my husband cut it down and attached it to the wall so that it now fits my desk securely. It is a lovely piece, rich looking where it counts and money saving where it does not count. I like it so much without the doors, that I am holding off installing them. It is a real find! I did not rate durablility as I have only had it for a few days, but it does seem sturdy.
I felt the picture for the hutch was a little misleading. I felt I was buying an entire desk and hutch only to find out later that it was only the hutch. Better descriptions in the title may have avoided such problems and I hope that Wal-Mart will fix this problem in the future.
Purchased both the Bush credenza and the hutch. Had the credenza completed and was on the final steps on the hutch when I realized there was a problem with attaching the hutch to the credenza. Apparently there are two models for the credenza. One without excepting the hutch and one excepting the hutch. The model excepting the hutch has previsions (bolts) built into the credenza desk top, to which the hutch attaches to. Unfortunately I had the one without the bolts. I purchased 4 brackets which I used to attach both units. I believe the units are secure. I think it would be a good idea for Bush to ensure that the purchaser should have a more heightened awareness that if both units are to be used together model X and X must be purchased and not model X and Y.
Needed a new desk and decided on this model. When it arrived I realized that it was only the hutch and not the desk. The photo on Wal_Mart's website was a bit missleading since it showed the hutch AND desk. But that was mainly my fault. So I ordered the desk as well. Although this put me over budget, I am happy with the purchase. This model is probably as nice as a "put together yourself" type of desk as you can get (but you do pay for it-hence the 3 stars for value. The apperance is excellent and the features/setup fit my needs. The installation was painless but time consuming (all put together yourself type of furniture always seem to be time consuming- so that is par for the course). The instructions are very clear which is a HUGE help. A couple of hints with the assembly: 1) have a large space cleared out. Extra room will make the assembly much easier 2) The desk/hutch do "nick" easily. So be careful not to scratch it 3) all the parts and hardware come come clearly labeled #ie. W125718 #K) ). Do not take the labels off after you finished assembling the whole desk/hutch. Keeping the parts labelled will make the assembly easier later as you put all the parts together. And only use the hardware from each labeled bag as you need them. Some hardware is used in multiple steps and you will need to know exactly what piece of hardware you need. Some of the screws/latches look the same but are slightly differenet. So keep the hardware in the bags so you know exactly what the pieces are.
This hutch is good looking and very sturdy. You will definitely need two strong people to assemble and attach it to the credenza or desk. The top molding covers only the front, so if you place another unit next to it, they will butt up together smoothly. Under the center doors is a curved piece of molding. This can hide puck lights, if you wish to add some lighting. The directions tell you to attach the hutch to the top of the desk or credenza first, THEN attach the whole assembly to the body of the desk or credenza. We decided not to do this because it would make the unit too difficult to move. However, if you decide to go this route, you will have to secure the hutch to the desk top from below the desk top, so that the hutch will not move. The backing board has punch-out perforations on it. There is a large punch-out for old style TV's and monitors. Since this is now passe, it is unattractively visible and needs to be covered with a picture or bulletin board. The metal hardware on the columns is a nice design feature; however the provided nails are too short. I did not like the gunmetal color of the hardware. This was easily changed to an antiqued brass by using Rub'nBuff gold leaf, then stippling on top with black paint. Looks great!
I love the hutch, the only thing I would like to see them improve is the cardboard backing. It really cheapens the product.
The back panel is very cheep and not strong my husband had to by two brackets and secured the hutch on the desk the instructions should have more explanation Overall it looks great
My wife bought this thinking she got a good deal but it's too late to realize that she just bought the half part of the desk.
Again, as others have stated, the ad comes across with pictures as a hutch and desk together. I get it opened and laid out just to find its only the hutch. Now have to shell out another $500 for the desk. VERY misleading ad. Hutch looks nice though and now I guess I need to go get the additional desk. Not happy with Walmart/Wayfair. ;(
Its looks great from the outside, but your paying for really cheap board for this price. If you get the $500 bottom desk to go along with it you prolly could of got your self something way better quality from an oak furniture place for a few hundred more. It arrive in good conditions with minor scratches from shipping this HEAVY. After assembling it it was defective and did not fit the base quite right. the material just seem to keep flaking/breaking off definitively would not last more than a year without looking like you've had it for more. Just buy something that wont break after you bump it lol.
