My kids really love their LeapPad Platinum. My husband and I have been impressed with the quality of construction, the durability and the functionality of the device. It has held up well to all 3 of our kids playing with it! We love the variety of games and apps available and are considering buying a second one! I love that I can trust this company to have my child's educational interests at heart. The LeapPad Platinum and Imagicards are just another addition to the incredible LeapFrog family. We were absolutely thrilled to receive it! I love that all of our old games are still compatible, and that the imagicards are functional on the older tablets. The games keep my daughter engaged even long after she has mastered the educational content. This product is 100% worth the investment!
My daughter started out with the LeapPad 2. It quit working this year, so her uncle upgraded her to a LeapPad Platinum. She loves the bigger screen. She says it is easier to play, and better for watching videos than her old one. She loves the included app's, seems as though more was included in this one than her previous LeapPad 2. The only Con I have about it, is the location of the power button. It is on the edge instead of on the front with the other buttons, which makes it far too easy to turn it off in the middle of playing! My daughter is getting used to it, and isn't turning it off quite as much, but it still could have been put in a better location. Overall we love the product.
I was recently invited to participate in the review of a new release from LeapFrog; and since I have been able to actually see and measure how my grandsons have benefited from using LeapFrog products, I was happy to take a look at their newest release in exchange for sharing my opinions with you. My grandsons were at my house Tuesday when the box arrived - much to their immense delight - and due to their parents granting a brief "reprieve" of their grounding from all gaming systems (I won't say what they did, but it did involve an unauthorized use of their mom's phone and the numbers 9, 1 and 1!), I am very happy today to let you know about the new LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum! LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum From - LeapFrog Ages - 3-9 Favorite Features - Familiar design and use - my grandsons have used LeapPad, LeapPad Ultra and LeapPad 3, so I'm very happy they were able to pick up the LeapPad Platinum and know how to use it. Larger screen More durable design. It looks more durable to me and LeapFrog says they designed it to be more durable. Clearly this is something time will show, but I do believe it will prove to be more durable. Since I have three active grandsons who will play with it; durable is good! The improved graphics are excellent! More detail! More color! Brighter color! More options for game play! The new, "Imagicard" system is excellent! I love how it is easy for children to use the camera in the LeapPad Platinum to take a photo of a special card - included with games and the LeapPad Platinum and then use the info it puts in the LeapPad Platinum to play in new ways! Children can change characters, be able to move in the game in different ways and experience an entirely new aspect to the game they are playing! It is more engaging, more fun and provides more opportunities for children to learn! Children - and grandparents and parents - will love the Imagicard System! Wi-fi and child safe - extremely important to grandparents and parents alike. I know my grandsons have enjoyed the opportunites to go on-line with the LeapPad Ultra and LeapPad 3, so I'm happy to see this feature included in the LeapPad Platinum. Rechargable - I LOVE this! All LeapPad cartridges will work on the LeapPad Platinum! I LOVE this, too! We and my grandson's parents have invested in LeapPad games, so I'm very happy the boys will be able to use these in the LeapPad Platinum. The new features added to the camera will allow my grandsons to "morph" the photos they take . . . I know they will LOVE this! The price point surprised me as I would have guessed it would be priced at a higher point! This is a good buy as children will learn and have fun using the new LeapPad Platinum! One grandson told me he thinks the new LeapPad Platinum is very "cool". What higher praise could there be from a coming-up-on-seven boy?! He loved the new features and the new ways he could play games. Another grandson told me he thinks the new LeapPad Platinum is very "fun"! Again, very high "praise" from an almost-four-year-old! I'm sure they'll have more to say when they are able to play more with it - after they are released from being grounded! As I have mentioned, I've been able to see how my grandsons have truly benefited educationally from playing with the LeapPads; I look forward to seeing how they learn while playing and having fun with the new LeapPad Platinum. I am very happy with what I see so far in the LeapPad Platinum, so as my grandsons are able to spend more time with it, I'll post again to let you know more about the LeapPad Platinum.
Incredible upgrades with the Leapfrog LeapPad Platinum. We were sent the LeapFrog Platinum and a set of Imigicards to share our thoughts about its function and upgrades. The LeapPad Platinum has a large 7" inch screen and the screen is shatter-safe. With the way kids throw things around and drop them you know that's a must. The Platinum's greatest feature is its ability to function with LeapFrog's Imagicards. My 7 yr old was blown away by the animation from still photo to character animation on the screen. We took it to the physical therapy.'s office and he played while I was getting therapy. The therapists and the customers came over to see what he was doing because of all his excitement. Therapists couldn't believe their eyes. "The advancement in technology is incredible" said one of them. With the all new magic gaming with your child's favorite characters imagicards are an incredible technology advancement that kids and parents will love. We had a set of Paw Patrol imagicards as well as a 6 cards that came with the system. My son was loving the Ninja Turtle card that came in the set. He loves the Ninja turtles and has been bugging me to get more cards so he can see them come to life on the screen. The characters come alive right before your eyes and speak to you. The look on my son's face was priceless. He's amazed and surprised all at the same time. The animation isn't all that your child will experience. They'll be able to take photos with their favorite characters and they'll see the character right next to them in the photo. My son loved that. He'd take photo's of everyone in the house and shares them. LeapFrog Platinum has over 1000+ games, ebooks, video's and more to keep kids engaged and constantly learning. No worry about summer brain drain this year. My son has barely put the LeapFrog Platinum down. The platinum tablet is the one he grabs when his friends come over and he can't wait to show them how the characters come alive from just taking a photo of a Imagicard. They all think its Magic! I personally love that the content is safe and educational for him and grows with his knowledge. Knowing that LeapFrog is always creating new games and ebooks there's always something new to add to keep him ready and learning and advancing in education. I love that some of previous games that we have purchased with prior models transfer to the Platinum and there's also new content available for keeping him engaged and continuing to be challenging for him.
My parents bought this for my daughter for Christmas as she was using her dad's tablet and I was concerned about her access to the internet and the durability of the tablet itself. I was worried that she would not be happy getting a new tablet, but that was not the case. As soon as she opened her present she was so excited. Once i had it charged and set up she just sat down and ignored her dad, brothers, and myself and immediately delved into the LeapPad Platinum. She loves the pet shop and laughed so hard at how the animals jump. For the free game we picked the one that teaches emotions, which she isn't sure how to play yet, but seemed to enjoy when I helped her. She's only had it a day, but I believe she is going to love it for a long time. My only complaint thus far is that there are not options for free games, as buying a handful quickly adds up.
I bought it in the beginning of this month. Leap pad ultra was much better quality. I don't like that they located a power button at the bottom right corner, where a lot of action is going on in "hot wheels" game, so my son accidentally keeps turning off device in the moment of excitement, and it is very frustrating.
My daughter has enjoyed and learned a lot with the leapfrog pads. We upgraded her 1 year ago to the platinum and while the features are great the pad did not hold up. Within 3 months of having it she tip of the stylus unraveled and she was not able to use it. I contacted customer care and they did send one to replace it. However they stated it was a one time replacement. Now after only having it 13 months the pad will not turn on. It a bummer considering it right past the warranty.
When LeapFrog came up with the LeapPad Ultra in 2013, I was blown away by how much better it was than previous LeapPad versions. Nearly 2 years later, when I heard that LeapFrog was coming up with a newer version of the LeapPad -- the LeapPad Platinum -- I was so excited to see what improvements they would come up with and what new bells and whistles it would come with. When LeapFrog sent me a review unit to try out, I decided to gift it to my 5 year-old niece. PROS: My nieces loves her new LeapPad Platinum! Her eyes lit up when she first saw it, and now she carries it around with her everywhere and calls it her special iPad. She plays on her parents' tablet and phones all the time, so she was able to get up and running and start having fun on the LeapPad Platinum right away. She loves taking selfies of herself and her little sister just like her parents do on their phones! The new Imagicard feature (a set of special cards that kids can scan into the LeapPad Platinum and have the characters on the cards come to life on the LeapPad Platinum) is icing on the cake. She's already a big fan of Paw Patrol, so she was amazed that she could scan Imagicard with the LeapPad Platinum and see her favorite Paw Patrol characters join the videogame she is playing. I've always said that the LeapPad is the perfect kid-friendly tablet and the perfect alternative to letting your kids play on your phone or tablet, and the new Platinum version is no different. It really does give kids hours of educational fun right out of the box, without any of the set-up headaches that plague parents when they try to make their devices kid-safe. CONS: Most of the features found in the LeapPad Platinum are the exact same features that I was so excited to see on the Ultra: the 7" hi-res screen, 8 GB memory, Wifi capability, kid-safe browser, 2MP front and back camera, 480p video, accelerometer, rechargeable battery. The battery life of the Platinum (5 hrs) is actually less than the Ultra (8hrs)! I was disappointed to see that the Platinum was so similar to the Ultra. Pretty much the only new feature is the Imagicard technology. Don't get me wrong, Imagicard is an awesome technology and it certainly enhances the educational and entertainment experience for kids.... but the Platinum sells for $129, whereas the Ultra can be found on sale for $64.99 (it originally sold for $149). Is the LeapPad Platinum worth the price premium? You decide! Disclosure: Leapfrog provided me with a free LeapPad Platinum to review.
Disclaimer: My daughter is underage for the LeapPad Platinum, 15 months I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She watches Nursery Rhymes on YouTube, so we were looking for a durable pad she can watch videos on when we are at dinner or in the car, she'd grow into the more advanced learning stuff as she got older. I chose this one because at the very least the package says web browsing. I thought great, even if we can't download the YouTube Kids app, we can via the web. That was wrong. They use of the term web browsing very loosely. The browsing is strictly limited to some preselected videos chosen by Leap Frog. So far the ones I have watched aren't that great, or super short. Beyond that.... Playing videos via the web offers no control of the video being played. Once you select a video it goes full screen on playback. If the screen is touched during playback, the video stops and it backs out of full screen until you touch play again. This function, is different from watching videos you purchase from the app store. Hmm, wonder why that is? As I stated above My daughter is under the recommended age group, some of the blame here is mine. But that doesn't excuse the limitations or the functionality flaw.
