I love the color and the durability. Even though it was pricy it was worth the money. We put it at the bottom of the stairs and my three year old can open it with ease but younger chilren who come over can not, so it is very safe and serves its purpose of keeping little ones safe.
I took two weeks to research and browse stores and online websites to find a safe gate for my son, that also looked nice in my home, without damaging my walls. My kitchen has dark mahoganny/cherry cabinets and this gate matched so well! The best part of the gate is even when I or my husband lean on it, it doesn't move!! I love this gate- it doesn't have to be mounted into my wall and leave holes later on-this one uses pressure on the ends!! Again, I love this gate, and walmart had the best price for it, so I will tell you know just buy it!! I did the research for two weeks :) I'm thinking about buying another one soon!!
Ignore the poor reviews about this product warping. They made me nervous, but I bought it anyway, because I liked the appearance. After reading the instructions step by step it is clear the manufacturer engineered the gate with a slightly un-square design, so that it applies tension to your square walls. It's a safety feature and makes perfect sense. Because of this I feel so much more confident my 11 month old won't push the gate over when applying pressure. Buy the gate, you won't be dissappointed. It has a very rich, elegant look, along with high quality design, compared to the ugly overpriced Babies R Us gates they sell in their stores.
This is a very nice gate for the money. Looks very nice. Tightens with a wrench which made feel more secure knowing it wasn't just hand tightened. This is my fourth gate I've purchased in the last 21 mos and I wish I had bought this one 21 mos ago:-) I am very happy that it comes with 2 extensions and gives me options in case I want to move it.
After much product review and review reading. I purchased this gate. I absolutely love it. It is great! Keeps back my 94 pound Shepherd and 3 year old. The assembly is easy, I did it in 10 minutes. Just read the directions don't jump ahead. My doorway is 36 inches, I was unable to use both extensions. I could only use (1) on one side. So imagine the picture obove missing (1) wood slat on the right side. The extensions and tension knobs add about (6) inches on each side on the gate. At first I was bummed but it looks great anyway. The tension has not slipped at all and it locks by itself. It is not solid wood so yes it will scratch. The color is dark brown walnut, my solid walnut floors are lighter, but it matches just fine.
This gate is very classy looking however, it doesn't fit the opening of 40.5" to well. So we had to put a piece of wood against the wall to secure gate tighter. Only reccommend this gate for its looks and not durability. It is used in a high use area and isn't as strong as the metal child proof gate that we have at the other end of hallway. But we like how it blends in with our furniture in the adult familyroom.
While this gate LOOKS good, it's flimsy and shorter than the metal gate I used to have. My child is very impatient and strong, and I just know he will very soon blow this gate away. It does NOT latch automatically, and the finish scratches very easily. Basically, I would only recommend it for parents with calm children showing no interest in "escaping". Also, the description doesn't specify that it can't be used at the top of the stairs, even though the directions clearly warn against it.
When I took the gate out of the box I was so pleased with the appearance. It was so pretty. After starting to put it together and install it I figured out what a joke this gate was. The wood was not even glued together correctly and the entire gate was so warped that there is no way that it would have worked in my doorway. It also was very difficult to install....if I would have gotten that far. I searched for the perfect gate for a long time and this seemed like the one even though I had read bad reviews. I just had to try it for myself though and now understand exactly what everyone was talking about. It went back to the store the next day. Don't waste your time and money purchasing this product.
This gate might have been a good one, but had to return because websites states width as being up to 42", when it is only 40.5". Discovered this when I put it in the door and it was too small, so I looked at the front of the box and sure enough, it says it only extends to 40.5". I hope Walmart fixes the description so that others don't have the hassle of returning it like I did.
I can't really rate the product because I will not be able to use it. Walmart's website states that this fits up to 42" which is one of the reasons I ordered it, when I got it home it was too small even with the extensions so I checked the box and it only fits up to 40.5". I am very upset.
