[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this car seat. The seat and cushion are so soft and gel like. It's clear that my daughter is super comfortable. Definitely an upgrade from her old seat. I love how easy it is to get her in and out of the seat. Further the adjustability of the seat is fabulous. From rear facing, to forward facing and eventually a booster she is going to have this for a very long time. And I also feel that the design of the seat makes it extremely safe for car travel from infant on up. It's clear that a lot of thought went into the design of this. With things like removable cup holders that make it easy to dump all the goldfish out of! I will definitely be recommending this to friends with new babies or looking for a new car seat. *Disclosure, I received this car seat for free
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a stroller/infant seat combo but we needed a seat that can grow with our baby. The seat is a gorgeous blue, supportive padding perfect for an infant but then easily adjusts for taller, larger kids. I love that the fabric is machine washable and the cup holders are removable and dishwasher safe.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While im waiting for a new car, we started using the car seat as a chair for my daughter. Its very flexible and has several options for reclining. My daughter plays her tablet in the chair often enough. She loves putting her bottle of water next to her or any other toys she wants to have handy.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We received the Maxi Cosi Magellan XP in Taylor (blue green - unisex) in exchange for an honest review!!! I must say this is easiest car seat we've ever had! We are on kid #4 and have tried multiple car seats (Britax, Graco Nautilus, Cosco) and this is our favorite. Love that is has multiple inserts that can be removed as baby grows for the best fit possible. The internal cushions are made of a different material and they feel so luxurious! Our 3 year old is currently using it in the 2nd row of our minivan in the forward facing position. It has a slight recline on it so that when he falls asleep his head goes back instead of falling forward! We also love that the cover unzips for easy washing. The removable cup holders are amazing my kids leave fruit, candy and fries in there and it's yucky so I am thankful I can take them off and put them in the dishwasher. It is easy to move from one vehicle to another, at first I thought it would be too bulky but it's honestly a lot easier than moving the graco nautilus. A lot of features definitely make sure you read the instructions. Lots of snaps that do useful things
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have two kids, 4 years old and just turned 1 year old. This means I have a lot of car seats, we own 5 car seats now and I used those for my comparison! I used the Maxi Cosi Magellan XP for my 1 year old in the rear facing position. My review is for the rear facing position and a 1 year old. We've tested this car seat for about 3 weeks now. Pros: Sturdy car seat, comfortable material, cup holders!, easy to read follow along manual that is clear to install and set up, grows with the child and can be rear or forward facing, easy to clean. Cons: Heavy, This car seat is not made for moving in and out of your vehicle on a regular basis, no sun shade. Installation: Because this car seat is made to grow with your child there are a lot of accessories. Since my son was already 1 year old when we received this some of those accessories are no longer needed. I had to figure that out first. The instruction manual was very clear on the indications of how the seat needs to be installed and I was able to do it on my own. I had someone double check my work and they agreed it was easy. I did not feel any wiggle with the car seat. I am 5'4 and I drive an SUV, the length or width of the car seat fit perfectly in my car. I love the leveling indicators which help me know the seat is balanced. Comfort: Our child easily fits in the seat, with comfortable straps that don't tangle. The tightening mechanism is easy to use. Plus the cover comes off with a quick zip for cleaning. Style - We have the blue color, Taylor, and it is a great blue. Not too boyish or girlish, it's a great gender neutral blue. Overall: This car seat feels like an upgrade. I feel confident knowing it is safe and secure for my most important passenger. It's so easy to snap my one year old in and out of the seat. It's also very comfortable for long drives, and he falls asleep comfortably in the seat. We're excited to have our child grow with the seat knowing it's capability to grow with him.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have been using our new Maxi Cosi Magellan XP for about a week now. It was unbelievably easy to adjust to my 18 month old's specifications as well as install in the car. The design is cosmetically appealing and the thickness of the foam makes me feel like my little guy is very well protected! The only thing that has been somewhat difficult is the straps getting twisted up and makes strapping him in a little bit more work. Overall, wonderful product I would recommend highly!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really have enjoyed the addition of the Maxi Cosi Magellan car seat to our travel. Once the seat is installed and the setting are as you want them, getting the little one in and out is a breeze. The installation was another story. My other car seat is not a convertible, so I wasn't quite ready for the time commitment in getting it set up. I do like the latch system and find it essential in my car which has inflatable seat belts in the back. The instructions are extensive as there are so many positions this seat can be in. I think if I had just watched a video, I may have been less frustrated. BUT once the setting are in place this is a great car seat that I feel will keep my little one safe all the way up through the time she is ready to be out of a boaster!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Maxi Cosi Magellan XP is a great car seat and my daughter (20 months) really seems to enjoy it. I received this as a FREE sample to try it and submit my honest review. FIRST UP: this is a hefty car seat, its ~25 pounds, which, to me, makes me feel like it is safe, because it is clearly made with quality parts that are going to hold up if we're in a crash, because its got a really solid frame. My husband whined that it didn't have a handle on it to make it easy to carry - but let's be realistic, this isn't a car seat that you're carrying around from car to car, or taking on a plane with you (dear god don't haul a 25 pound car seat around an airport, there are reasonable lightweight ones for travel) - but you DO want a tank like this for your day-to-day to keep your child safe. SECOND: okay, the install. As mentioned, I am using this for a 20-month old, so she is still rear-facing. She is < 35 pounds still, so I can use the latch system and wanted to try that out (I appreciated that the manual is specific about weights for latch vs seatbelt), and it was...reasonably easy to do. I like the zipper feature on the seat to really easily access the path for both the latch and seatbelt paths. It is REALLY nice that there are spots inside the seat that the latch system can connect to for storage (I have other car seats where there is no spot to store them and they hang and swing around which is annoying, especially when moving the seat or traveling). Then it was easy to feed the latch system through, lock under the lock paths (very nice touch), and click in to my car's latch system. The ONLY annoying part - it was really difficult to tighten the latch belt enough. I had to have my husband help me. I think that it would have been easier if I had used the seatbelt, because that path looked easy and I'm familiar with how to lock that. I just wish that the latch belt was a bit easier to tighten as well. I also needed to recline the seat a bit so that the seat was at the right incline - its easy to do, but I had to unlatch and move the seat to access the lever - bah. Guess I should have looked at the level before latching! (they tell you to check that first...2nd time mom here, I ignored the direction, hah) THIRD: getting kiddo in - super easy. I like that there are slots to hold the seatbelt straps out of the way, and its easy to adjust the height of the shoulder straps. I wish the strap-loosener wasn't covered in fabric - I struggle to find it every time to loosen the straps when getting kiddo out. (Struggle for just like, 2 seconds) Not a big deal, but annoying design feature. BUT what is an awesome design feature? The built in cup holders!! OMG these are the BEST because I am definitely one of those moms that gives my kids snacks and water in the car, and so the fact that there are 2 easy to reach cupholders built in, to hold a water cup and then some snacks is really perfect - one of the first things I started using, and something that is really different from our other seats. I've got 2 kids, and before trying this Magellan seat, I had regularly used 2 other brands of car seats (one as the day-to-day tank in my car, the other as a lighter weight in my husband's car and for travel). This one is right up there with the tanks in my car in terms of being a great, safe car seat, easily adjustable, relatively easy to install, and even better by having the cup holders and some of the design features like the locking paths and spots to hold the straps out of the way which are really unique and clearly were added based on feedback from real parents! When I first got it, I thought I would try it and then gift it to a friend expecting her 2nd kid...but now, selfishly, I've decided to keep it for myself instead!! Definitely recommending it to her! It is an excellent choice for a car seat and I'm excited for my daughter to grow with it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have the chicco car nextfit zip convertible car seat in addition to a cosco apt 50 car seat. It appears that if these two car seats had a child then its offspring would be this seat (this is not a compliment). The nice thing about the carseat is the two cup holders and the royal blue color other than that these are the only two good things for the seat. There are several major issues with the carseat 1.) The installation of the carseat is not practical for anyone to use and would require . There are some major design flaws in the car seat. Especially when it comes to rotating/reclining the carseat and viewing if the marble is on center. This is not the most ideal location/placement to put the level for the seat. It is nice to have a marble setup to view versus a two line guage as the cosco apt 50. However considering that this is on the base of the seat makes it hard to verify and the color combination is not contrasting enough to verify that it is properly set. Yet on our chicco nextfit there is a bubble level which makes it very easy to verify you have setup the carseat properly. 2.) Additionally the area to compress to recline/rotate the seat was impossible to move. They state this is a 1 hand 7 position recline but I had to use two hands on the mechanism to recline. One would have to push down and use your additional hand to move slightly up because the mechanism did not fully compress to allow it to recline. However when using the chicco nextfit the one handed mechanism works great (we used this in multiple cars and had to make adjustments. I cannot imagine making adjustments to this without getting frustrated.) 3.) Additionally the anchor straps for the car are not as good as the chicco car nextfit and with this price point of a car seat would be disappointed that it was the same mechanism as the cosco apt-50. To tighten the carseat in the car anchor points just makes it harder versus the chicco. As a parent that has the chicco carseat I am thankful that the straps are very easy to tighten/adjust while removing from the car. 4.) Lastly when strapping our in our toddler it was not great either. The straps would get twisted when we would tighten straps after we buckled our guy in. Our chicco nexfit or cosco apt 50 does not do this at all. This is not a user issue, our little guy is 3 years old so we have several years of experience in this. To sum it up you are getting a sub-premium product at a premium price. I would not recommend this carseat to anyone and advise them to go with chicco unless they want a royal blue carseat
I did a lot of research when purchasing a car seat. I wanted good ratings and safety features. It was important for me to have my child in the safest position-rear facing as long as possible. When I unboxed the car seat to assemble and Insta in my suv, the straps jammed up and I had to return after 3 people were unsuccessful with trying to resolve the issue. I repurchased the same seat, as I really had high expectations for this seat that would be protecting my child as she grew. I was able to install with difficulty. I even searched for installation videos and reviews but at the time found very few. Once this car seat was installed I dreaded removing it. I did find this seat to work very nicely for an infant up to about 18 months. As my baby grew she started complaining on her legs being "snug" tingling. Once again I looked for help. Contacting car seat safety forums, and the company with pictures. My installation seemed appropriate with my 2 year old in it as per picture review. I received a lot of opinions on putting my 2 year old forward facing, but my priority was more safety than comfort. Even after educating my 2 year old on leg position options and car seat adjustments, I gave up on the car seat. It now has no use for me and I am using a different one. Now my petite 3 1/2 year old is still rear facing, comfortable, and most importantly safe. Disappointed to say the least.
