I ordered this to take the place of a humidifier I had been using for quite a while. I am very pleased with the machine and use it every night with the surf sound. It is so soothing and relaxing, just like being at the beach with the window or door open to hear the waves. I have not used the other sounds but look forward to trying the rain/thunderstorm as well as the white noise. I took it on vacation and it came in handy. It is easy to use, has a wide range on the volume control and can be operated on batteries if need be. So far it has been great and I am glad I purchased it. I am not sure about the value for the price paid since I have not owned one of these machines previously but hopefully it will last a long time and perform well.
This sound conditoner is attractive, sturdy and well-made. Six sounds are easy to access with push button on the top along with on/off and timer push buttons. A easily accessible sliding volume control is on the bottom of the unit which ranges from very loud to very soft. The six sounds are clear and realistic. The unit runs on AC (adaptor provided) and battery operation as needed making the Marpac Marsona DS-600A White Noise Sleep Sound Machine portable for those who want to use the unit for travel. An excellent manual for information and instructions is provided that fully explains the sound conditioner and its operation. This product is expensive, but it offers six sounds and has the reputation for being a long-lasting product. The product is marketed by a USA company (Marpac) and assembled in the USA with a one-year warranty. Marpac has been making sound conditioning products since 1962. I purchased the Marsona DS-600A for my wife for her birthday. We are pleased with the product.
It's good having the different sound options. It does help with sleep. The machine is made with high quality and is sturdy. The only thing I would change is where the volume control is located. It is on the bottom of the machine and makes adjusting the volume a little difficult when you are already in bed with the lights off.
My husband and I tried each of the 6 sounds to help us sleep. I found the crickets annoying and the brook too loud. The other sounds were soothing, especially the surf and thunderstorm. Those helped me go to sleep. My husband said they all sounded fine to him but didn't help him get to sleep--in fact, kept him awake. For the cost of the machine, we felt it didn't do the job of helping us drop off to sleep every time, so we returned the machine.
