Cooked my cure 81 spiral sliced ham the butt for Christmas and this will be the only ham we will ever buy. Excellent flavor, tender. Cooked just the way selected but instead of one cup of water, I put a 12 oz can of coke. Really, really tender.
I cannot find this ham in southwestern PA. Can it be mail ordered? I alway bought it in the Cleveland area but have now moved. I absolutely love Cure 81 ham.
I bought this ham especially for Thanksgiving dinner and was so happy to serve it to my thankful family. It tastes great. We do this every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Nothing tastes as good as a Hormel cure 81 spiral cut ham. Thanks.
We (my family) love Hormel brand, especially Hormel 81 ham not only boneless but also bone in. Tastes, smells, meats all very goo````d
I must admit, I always seek out a "Cure81" ham as it is dependably great tasting. I sought out and purchased one yesterday to eat and serve during the holidays. It is likely that my ravenous friends will scoff up this one in a couple of days, so I'm keeping my eye on the available stock at the grocery store. I was seeking one on the small side of those available and the butcher kept trying to get me to take a "Smithfield" or another brand which was smaller, but I insisted on the "Cure81". I'm glad I did as it is difficult to resist taking a "taste" every time I open the "frig".
Why aren't heating instructions included with the ham? There's instructions for the glaze, but nothing else. Frustrating as you have to go on-line to find. Saw instructions for heating at 275 and 325. Confusing. Keep it simple and give baseline instructions Hormel!
Merry Christmas not , bad texture and did not care for the taste
Baking a 14.5 pound ham at 325 degrees F for 15 minutes per pound resulted in a temperature of 210 degrees - the ham was terribly dry. Please revise your recommendations for either baking time or temperature.
Purchased for Christmas because I am fond of Hormel products and expected this to be a terrific part of the meal. Good thing i had plenty of other great food prepared because I had to throw the ham away. I was embarrassed and could not serve this to people or even my dogs. It was supposed to be spiral sliced but it was in terribly thick slices which were not tender whatsoever, and being pure fat rather than meat, made it even harder to chew. You couldn't chew it and if you tried, it tasted horrible. I was afraid my dogs couldn't even chew it with all that fat. I REALLY had to throw it in the trash instead of serving it. I would have been more humiliated from serving a ham like that than from just not having one. I opted for less humiliation option. I won't try another Hormel ham ever. I will be afraid that the same incident will occur and I will waste my money again as well.
The heating directions were not clear and when I checked online I found conflicting oven temperature and per pound timing. The instructions with the glaze DID NOT specify mixing it with water--online directions did. COMPANIES SHOULD REALIZE THAT NOT EVERYONE HAS INTERNET ACCESS. When the ham was heated and ready to serve it was NOT ATTRACTIVE like most spiral hams. Fortunately I was serving family and not outside guests. I would have been embarrassed if had to put it on display for outside guests.
