This is the third DSC-W830 we have purchased. It is easy to use, and takes great photos. The only reason we have to keep purchasing the same camera, is they do not hold up well to being dropped. I would say gravity is the only drawback to this camera.
I really like the camera, don't know about the battery life yet, as I just received it. Didn't have any problems figuring it out, and the first one that I have owned. It takes great pictures and was so simple to transfer to my computer. Very happy with it.
It took me a while to figure out how to shoot panoramic photos. But once I did, no one could stop me. I took some of the most beautiful scenic shots ever....all up in Canada, some on the water, and some just of the mountains. Best to have a friend who is familiar with shooting panoramic to get some start-up tutoring!! But that's just me. At 71 years young, I think I am doing just fine as a photographer, albeit novice, but everyone seems to like my photos!!!
i bought this camera to replace my original DC-W560 that disappered from our car I love the picture quality it takes and the color balance is awesome. All in all I highly recommend this camera if you are in the market to buy one.
Been looking to replace an older digital point and shoot camera. The Sony W830 optical zoom is packed with features. It is so tiny you can easily carry this in you pocket, it's smaller than most cell phones. Thought this feature was going to be it's down fall, however that is not the case. So far this camera has performed like a little dynamo. Got to love that! This is my first Sony point and shoot. So far so good!
so smart this little camera ! i do love using it, there are tons of action's i still have not used, im kinda stuck on "easy shot" the camera does all the work for you ! i also live the video part, easy to read, the only thing im not crazy about is the very very short cord from your computer to the camera to up load...its way short..thats why i gave 4 stars, i would even purchase one, but had no luck on doing so...
Meh. It takes decent photos, nothing spectacular. Biggest complaint is short battery life. I mainly take photos when I'm traveling abroad. This means I'm out sightseeing for ~6 hours at a time and this camera just doesn't cut it. My old Fuji Finepix handles this time frame with aplomb. Pros: it's light, most of the presets work just fine, quick power up, controls are intuitive. Cons: battery life is short, power on button can be hard to find sometimes, photo quality is just OK, colors seem washed out.
The button to press for taking a photo is very difficult to use. I can't tell when it is half depressed to get the focus. Many vacation pics were out of focus because of the recess button. I still have the camera but bought new Sony with elevated button. I would never buy this camera again until Sony resolves this issue.
A compact camera should be able to take a tack sharp image in normally lit settings but this could not. All the photos were grainy, or as some might say "pixelated." I tested it indoors at night with lamps turned in living room. Well lit. Grainy without flash but not much improved with flash on. I know the view-screen is not a good indicator of picture quality so I used my computer to evaluate them. Daytime with lots of natural daylight coming in the room as side lighting did not yield better results, with or without flash. I did some testing on outdoor pictures on a sunny day in sunlight and light shade and yielded grainy pics. The automatic setting reads the scene as needing the macro setting, perhaps this is why there is a problem. I did employ some other scene settings but did not have success with this either. I know the view-screen is not a good indicator of picture quality so I used my computer to evaluate them. The 360 panorama is a nice feature in theory but the camera often would not finish the full frame of the panorama and it too, as you might guess, was grainy. There is a difference between grainy and camera blur. This was definitely grain. The Zeiss lens would be great if the camera had a more light sensitive sensor or faster lens. I knew it didn't have a grip on the right side of the camera and found I didn't like not having one because it makes it more challenging to hold the camera. The camera takes an unusually long time to record the photo and and also to bring up the photo after pushing the review button. All in all, as an experienced photographer I was very disappointed and am returning the camera. Wasn't the brand I originally wanted but at $98 (originally $150) it seemed worth a try because of the Zeiss lens. Lesson learned.
I have another Sony Cyber-shot and love it, but I wanted something I was less concerned about damaging so I could get quick pictures of my kids. However, this camera is awful. It takes longer to focus and to process pictures than my phone, so it completely defeats the purpose of having an actual camera. Taking pictures of children, almost every pictures comes out blurry or misses the moment. I thought with technology today a real camera, even a cheap one, would be better than that. At this point, I am frustrated and going to have to try and sell (or more likely, give away) this product and get a better one.
