After reading other reviews i decided to write one of my own. I purchased the Gator for my son when he was a yr old. He's tall for his age so this truck worked out best with the adjustable seat. He is goin to be five in feb. and just this year i had to replace all 4 tires and the High-low switch which controls the the forward and reverse. It cost me $89 for all four tires and $10 for the high-low switch which took 15mins to replace. After 3 years of the abuse it takes i consider that pretty good! I highly recommend this ride on for Boy or girl. The battery that came with it is still goin strong but i did however purchase a second battery so there was no down time when charging and it wasn't that expensive. My son drives his gator to the park that is about a block from my house and drives it around the lake at the park which is a 2 mile measured trail and home and it makes it on just the one battery... My son is not "gentle" by any means with this truck and it's held up to the abuse.....The dump box works great with helping to haul yard waste and even patio bricks oh and 50lb bags of mulch....I am 28yrs old and can ride sittin on the top of the dumpbox with my son driving and it doesn't bog down at all and we are definitly exceeding the weight limit.... It's a great investment for a ride on.
I bought the Gator for my 3 year old son. He is special needs from a brain injury. His fine motor skills are affected; therefore, we do lots of physical therapy. This Gator is not only a way for him to go across the yard and keep up with his daddy doing yard work, but it has been theraputic! His coordination from turning the steering wheel and pushing the pedal with his foot has helped him tremendously! We have not had a bit of trouble with it. He loves it! He is very independent in it!
My son LOVES his Gator! We have not had any of the problems that are listed on the other reviews. The Green has faided but that is because it has been out side for the past 2 years! I think this is the greatest toy ever!
if you would of asked me two weeks ago I wouldnt of recomended this at all, the gears did not last long, but I found out if you call the peg perego comany you have a 1 yr man. warrenty, they sent me this little plastic peice free of charge, you unscrew the shifter pop that baby in and it works wonderful. so yes if that was all it takes I totally recommend the product, it kinda high priced for the fact you might need to order a part but the look on my sons face whenn he can haul his toys around the yard make every penny worth it.

My kids, 4 and 2-1/2, absolutely love this gator. My 4 year old drives his little sister everywhere to collect sticks from around the house. We have so many little inclines on our property and no concrete so my only complaint is that it has plastic tires that are not very knobby. Pneumatic rubber tires would be able to travel in more landscapes than the plastic. Great toy, though. I'm not sure why everyone was having such a problem with the seat belts. They fit my kids just fine.
We purchased this for my 3 year old son. He LOVES it- plays with it everyday. The only part I am unhappy with is the seatbelts. They are very hard to get to- the straps get stuck down into the center of the seats and gearshift. I have to fish for them. Other than that- thrilled they put seatbelts in the newer model. My boys are enjoying it immensly!
Do not waste your money on the Gator (Peg Perego). We bought this for our 2 yr old son 4 months ago and the reverse and 1st gear has already went out on it. Very disappointing for him since he loves John Deere. Lousy traction as well. We bought the Barbie Volkswagon Beetle (Power Wheels) for my daughter 4 years ago and it is still going as strong as the first day. We replaced the Gator with the Hurricane Jeep (Power Wheels) and are very pleased with it. Buy Power Wheels and not Peg Perego!!
Purchased 09/5 reverse went out 09/18. My daughter loved it and it was difficult to convince her that we were going to return it and get a power wheels jeep instead..... The gator is just poorly designed.
My husband and I were dead set on getting this for my 4 year olds b-day. We have the other little tractor and have had no problems and after 2 years still works great! We read the reviews about the gears, reverse going out. We looked at our other options and decided we'd take a chance. Sure enough after just one day!!!!! the reverse has gone out! I cannot believe that Peg-Perogo or John Deere would continue this product with this frequent malfunction. We will be taking it back to Walmart very soon for our money back. I highly recommend not to purchase this item. Do not take a chance as we did.
