This is a very good pole for the Purple Martin landlord on a budget. It is in four telescoping sections which will raise your SK brand Purple Martin house to 15 feet. It is a triangular shaped pole and will withstand some very high winds without bending. My first Quad-Tel pole survived a tornado two years ago and the residing Purple Martins went on to fledge their young successfully. I recently purchased my second Quad-Tel pole to add another SK house. The main weakness to this pole is the plastic clips which lock the sections together. If you lower the pole too quickly and the clip from the section above goes inside the lower section it can come off or break. This is easily remedied by purchasing 6 water hose clamps large enough to go around the pole sections. Place one clamp around the pole just below each plastic clip and tighten them down. This will prevent the pole sections from sliding too far down and inside the section below. Then, as you are raising each section and locking it in place, put another clamp right at the point where the pole sections slide together and tighten them down. This adds extra stability and prevents the sections from lowering in the event of plastic clip failure. It also keeps any pressure totally off of the plastic clips so failure will not be an issue. To lower your Purple Martin house for nest checks simply take a 3/8 inch nut driver or screwdriver and loosen the clamps locking the sections together allowing the pole to telescope down. When raising the pole simply slide the clamps in place one by one and tighten. A plastic clip broke on my first Quad-Tel pole dropping my unoccupied house to the ground. After I made this modification the pole worked great. For the price of this pole, I strongly recommend it for someone on a budget trying to establish a Purple Martin colony as long as the modification is used. Please do not use it without this modification as your house could be dropped to the ground due to clip failure in a strong wind.
This pole is great for the bird condo that we bought in the store. Wish the pole was also sold in the store but at least I got it thru walmart.com. This was by far the best price available. It is really tall & looks industrial so we planted a climbing vine and some flowers at the base to dress it up! Sways a lot in the wind but I guess that is to be expected with the big birdhouse at the top!
Pole is very sturdy and like it very much. It is triangular and my Martin house has round base for attachment. Wish pole had come with some type universal mount and sleeve for ground. Made do. Would still purchase again.
purchased the pole, got the pole and found out sleeve was extra and not stocked at Walmart.
Walmart did fine with price and delivery but the manufacturing of the product has one weak point- - the plastic clips. The clips are barely up to the job over the long run. These are replacement poles for our existing Purple Martin houses. We get such high winds out here that these sturdy poles managed to bend enough to make it difficult to raise and lower the houses for spring cleaning. We now have placed four anchor points for the new poles, placing ropes from pole under the houses to the anchors on the ground. Going well now.

The pole for the martin house is fine, but I bought the martin house at walmart and you could not put it up with out the pole. Any pole would not work because the opening is a triangle shape. All the Walmarts that I called did not carry the pole. I was glad that the pole was carried by the on-line store, but it would have been nice to make one trip not two.
The poles extend and retract with little effort. However, since the poles don't retract all the way into each other, the house is still 7 to 8 feet off the ground in the lowest position. As such, you need to either lift it out of the hole or get a step ladder. Neither of these are great options. I'm disappointed with the product.
I have been told that there are instructions on this specific pole and its installation. However no instructions were sent.
The house is a good product, but WalMart doesn't stock the adapter that ties the house together with the pole. The adapter is needed to tie the 2 floors to the pole without it the house will blow apart in the wind. You will have to contact the maker to purchase the adapter or the house is useless.
