Great basic machine

This was the sewing machine that I learned to sew on. I've owned it for about five or six years and it's never failed me. It's a 3/4 size which made it really portable (nice to take to a sewing night) and it only had 10 stitches which worked for me since I didn't have any projects that would require anything more complex. I've used it to sew everything from pajama pants to a prom dress to quilting blocks. The only problem I ever ran into once was with the thread on the bobbin getting tangled, but that appears to have been my user error. This machine has survived my threading and sewing mistakes, being moved about three times, and being dropped at least twice (oops!). And it still works like the day I bought it. What more can you ask for?

This is my new favorite item in the house! It works great . I bought it a few months ago online and i have to say for the price it is very durable and easy to work with. The tension is easy to change and the needles too depending on the type of fabric you work on. It is great for making anything you set your mind to. I recommend it to beginners and advanced. LOVE IT!!

Easy to thread and operate, sturdy and well weighted for a small machine. Simple stitches make it great for a beginnger or the regular seamstress. My 11 year old is making outfits on it with ease. Runs very smooth- great machine!

This is a great little machine for basic sewing. I have hemmed three pair of pants (two were denim jeans), made decorative pillows and resewn ripped seams. So after only a few weeks, this machine is well on the way to paying for itself. And I love the blue color!

Don't be deceived by the small appearance of this 3/4 sewing machine. With the name of Kenmore/Janome, there's no way to go wrong. This machine does everything my full-sized does! Sewing is so easy and smooth. I was surprised at how well this sewing machine handles itself. It sews over thick materials and has an easy-to-use clutch to wind bobbins. This is a beautiful machine at an affordable price. Now when I travel, I can keep it with me. Wish I would have bought it sooner! It's just precious and fantastic.

I bought this machine because of the great reviews. They were very accurate. I love this little sewing machine. It is very user friendly and it really does power through thick material with ease.

I bought this machine while I figure out what is wrong with my more expensive machine. I figure the cost of this machine would be less than the cost to repair my other machine. Or the time it would take me to figure out what I am doing wrong! So far I like this machine better because it is super easy to use for someone like me with very little experience operating a sewing machine. I like it so much I may never bother with my other machine. I really only need a machine for hemming and other plain straight stitching needs. So cute and lightweight yet sewed through 3 layers of fabric with ease.

I bought this and had it sent to afganistan because I looked all over the internet and most of the reviews sugested that this would be the strogest machine for stiching threw thick fabrick. It dose the job out sandingly. I have a dressmaker back in the states that can't stich threw the pockets on Military pants this thing did the job with out hesitashion. I have all the guys in my platoon now wanting me to fix their pants. At $75 a pair for military pants that dont last very long in combat this thing will pay for its self after fixing just 2 pairs of pants which I have already done with it. I like how the desine has not changed in at least 10 years that means they desined this right the first time.

It's too bad Kenmore isn't doing sewing machines anymore because they do them well! Note: My box arrived with a notice that Kenmore also isn't honoring the warantee anymore however Janome (who actually makes this particular machine# actually is. It says the lot numbers have been black-marked against returns to Sears & K-Mart which looks pretty harsh reading the language but if anything happens I am satasfied as long as either WalMart or Janome honors the warantee if anything goes wrong. I am a fairly novice hobbiest (I've made baby blankets, baby toys, simple lunch boxes, curtains etc) & have difficulty with complicated instructions. The instruction booklet that accompanies this product is excellent. Gives me simple step by step instructions, along with "follow along" pictures for each step. Yay! There is a speel inside about your Kemore warantee however note again, it is now null & void but will be honored by Janome. I did not require my signifigant other, who is a mechanic, to come help me through it as I am oft to do when new machines are around. I did take care to have the foot petal over a waste basket & ran the machine through each of the 10 stitching gears, did have a small amount of oil to wipe away. Note: You will also need to open the compartment you access the bobbin in to wipe away oil that has came out of the machine here too. Out of the box the needle was already installed for me. Inside the extended arm I found a package of three additional needles, a small seam ripper, the zipper foot, & a felt foot for the bottom of a thread bobbin to ride on the top of the machine. TIP: Run a piece of scrap fabric thru the first time after removing the protective plastic film. The dog ears had a trace amount of oil on them. YES this machine can & does thread it's own bobbins! Works extremely well! YES the foot petal offers some variations in speed depending on how hard you press your foot down. YES there is a light in the needle area, NO you cannot turn it off at will, unless you turn the machine off completely. #At least I cannot find a way to accomplish this# NO the dog ears do not appear to be adjustible HOWEVER YES they seem to work well. YES the stitch selector is plastic, however it has enough weight to it that I don't feel like it's going to snap off or wear out fast from switching back & forth as needed. YES the outside construction of the machine is plastic. For $80 that's what you get, but it looks like it could be made of metal. YES the foot plate is sturdy feeling. YES the bobbin case looks complicated but with the accompanying instructions it was quite easy for me to figure out. *HINT: Only touch the pull tab in the middle. DO NOT try to move the two little arms out of the way on the outside of the bobbin case, or the whole unit comes out in several pieces much like old old machines of the past. YES it was easy to follow the instructions when trying to pull the bottom bobbin thread up thru the foot to join the top thread. Now that I've followed the instructions once I do not feel I need to reference the manual to do so again. Bottom line: a little smaller in stature than my ancient Montgomery Wards machine -which will be nice for transport to & from craft gatherings with friends!, I was working on projects within 15 mins of opening out of the box, & appears to be a good little work horse that seemed well worth the $95 I paid. -after tax & shipping. I do feel like this item will stand up to the test of time!

We are returning this machine because the bobbin keeps jamming - even when operated by an avid, experienced seamstress.
