Great little sewing machine.

This is a great little sewing machine. My girls love it. They have so much fun sewing the different patterns. It is very easy to use. You don't need any skills. Just turn it on and keep the material under the guide. We got the pink one. It has a safety guard over the needles. So you don’t have to worry about their little fingers. It comes with pretty material, different size plastic buttons, patterns, stuffing and pre-cut very cute projects. It has no thread, which I think is neat. It is light weight. It is recommended for ages 6 - 11. It does have small parts. It requires 4 "AA" batteries. I think it's a good value. It would make a great present.

It is a simple to use Sewing System for any young woman 6 years and older. It is safe to use and makes learning a fun and secure adventure. Perfect to help young women to learn an new hobby that is clean and simple. This is perfect for getting a young woman ready for a real sewing machine without the expensive costs of machine, needles and thread. Ideally it helps to bring back the old art of sewing to a modern era. I would recommend it to any young woman as that first step to creating with the art of sewing. J. Ecker Ph.D.,D.M.,D.D.

My 8 year old daughter really enjoyed making her first sewing machine craft using the Sew Cool Sewing machine. It is definitely a crafting project she will do with my supervision to make sure she is taking her time and following instructions. I helped her by watching the lines and making sure she was using both hands to guide the material in the right direction. I did have some difficulty getting the batteries in properly as the directions and pictures on the sewing machine were somewhat confusing and difficult to see. The projects are bright and colorful. I am not exactly sure where the thread is and whether or not thread can be added. So I'll be interested to see how many projects we can make. The instructions do state that only Sew Cool fabric can be used. The fabric is more like a stiff felt than fabric material. But again, my 8 year old daughter really enjoyed using the machine and likes the projects that are included.

Amazing Little Sewing Machine!

I have not stitched a single stitch since home economics many, many years ago. My daughters saw the commercial for the Sew Cool Sewing Machine and were begging for it. I love this machine! It requires no thread. The needle area is enclosed in plastic so no one can get hurt and the projects are fun and easy to do. My oldest daughter made the stuffed cupcake and the pencil case. The pattern could use a few more directions on them for younger children and their potentially haven't had sewing class in over 20 years mom/dad, but we figured it out. My youngest made the stuffed owl with no difficulties. They were able to follow the directions and stitch on the lines beautifully with the guides on the machine and dots on the fabric. This threadless machine actually stitches the fabric together really well...just remember to go over the seams to the openings a few times. Some of the fabric that is provided does a better job not showing the stitches than others. Careful with the machine it can only stitch through two layers of fabric so if your project requires multiple pieces make sure you plan it out so that you do the steps in the order that allows for 2 layers only at a time!

Sew Cool Sewing Machine is SO COOL.

I want to say first off this toy is a parents dream of getting a toy like advertised and them some. I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of sewing projects that come with it. And yes it does sew with a closed in needle that is very safe. First lets start with the packaging. You can clearly see the little Machine through a clear plastic opening and a project ready to sew. The packaging design is that of a real machine and is bright to attract. I like that there is a clear batterey identification markings showing it will require 4 double A batteries not included and it's made for any person that speaks any language to understand. It will require a parent to help remove the toy from its packaging. Now once the toy is out of the package it's easy to install the batteries. Does require a small philips screwdriver. It comes with a three fold large instruction sheet with fairly easy instructions. A large package of precut projects to sew, a large package of uncut fabric in a wide variety for the easy to cut projects, a large prepuntctured ready to cut patterns. A large bag of bows and flowers other decorations for your projects and a bag of polyfiberfill for projects that require stuffing. To start you will need adult supervision to teach you child how to operate the sewing machine. It comes with the first learning project connected to the machine which is very simple and easy. Well thought out. It does really sew using a closed system that keeps the needle completely from being touched and the thread cuts itself at the end. The on off switch to turn on the machine and light is easy to find on the back and there is a large sewing button to start sewing are easy to use and it has an emergency stop sewing button for parents. This come with quite a few precut and uncut sewing projects to do. Plus you can order more online or buy more instore. But honestly they will have lots do with what already comes with the machine. This toy is made of bright durable plasctic. It's small enough to store easily. I would recommend getting a small container for the material and projects. It would be a medium shipping cost to ship. But also Walmart has site to store. Yes this is worth the money and you get pleanty of things to make. I would also continue to buy more fa ric and patterns. This toys gets my vote. Please check out my video of trying it on YouTube Sew Cool Sewing Machine

Perfect sewing machine for little hands

I have three daughters, ages nine, seven, and four. They love creating things. My oldest made her very first quilt at the age of six. My middle child doesn’t like quilts. She likes smaller projects like pillows, bags, hats, etc. When I saw the SewCool machine, I liked the size and colors. When I noticed that it doesn’t does not need thread to sew, I loved it! No more spending time trying to rethread everything every time she accidentally pulls on it. I just had to get it. When the machine arrived, my middle child knew it was for her. It came with precut pieces, and extra fabrics for her to cut her own using the pop-out patterns included. After putting in batteries, she tried it out. Sure enough, it worked with no thread. It was easy to use. Just press the big button to start and again to stop. It was very simple. She was very proud of the little pillow she did. The issue I noticed was that when she was sewing, she had the machine’s front side facing her. This made it hard for her to see the three needles and to keep them all on the dotted lines. When she was done, she noticed how off the sewing was from the dotted lines provided. Same thing happened when my nine year old tried it. I allowed my four year old to try it, but with her, I had her facing the row of needles. It made it very easy for her to make sure all the needles were following the dotted lines. It’s funny that the youngest did the best job just by placing the machine sideways. The best part of this machine is that any probably any thin felt pieces would sew up with the machine. The possibilities are endless. My daughters can just sit and sew whenever they have time. I don’t have to worry much because there are no plugs (batteries), the needles are protected by plastic tubes which prevent any accidents, and no threads are needed. I’m going to have to order a few more to give away as Christmas presents.

This is simple and fun. The machine truly uses no thread. The needles press the fibers of the felt into each other which holds the felt pieces together. It seems to hold pretty good, I wouldn't suggest pulling extremely hard along the seams. The felt pieces are brightly colored and there are lots of pretty decorative pieces to put on your creations. It takes 4 double A batteries to work the machine, they do not come with the sewing machine. My 9 year old daughter can work the machine on her own, with no fear of her hurting herself or being to complicated to use. I'm not sure why but the machine itself seems to be decorated for strictly girls, but I think some boys would probably enjoy the machine as well. It comes with cotton filler to fill a stuffed owl pillow or to make other pillows from the felt pieces it comes with. I would recommend this product for anyone who likes to create decorative pillows or doll clothes easily. For Christmas or a birthday this would make any child that's into creating their own designs perfectly happy. I would also gift this to an adult that likes working with felt. From what I understand an adult felt machine works very similar to this machine.

The Sew Cool Sewing Studio is a pretty cool toy. It's safe for a child to use, educational, creative and good for improving fine motor skills. This machine simulates the sewing process without using thread. The machine appears to be fairly well made and simple enough for a child to use safely. The kit comes with a fair amount of project material. The machine wants to slide around the work surface easily so a rubber mat or other non slip covering would be suggested. *NOTE. the picture of the battery installation appears to be backwards. The machine wouldn't turn on until I reversed all four AAA batteries. The picture shown on the box is a pink sewing machine and the colors of the materials supplied are geared toward a young girl. I'd like to see more non-gender specific colors and projects. Boys could enjoy this toy too.

Did Not Turn On

Turn the blue knobs counterclockwise: When first trying to remove the sewing machine from the package, I had a difficult time detaching the blue knobs that connected the sewing machine to the cardboard box. I pulled and tugged to no avail, then realized that you’re supposed to turn the knob counterclockwise, and it comes off easy. Batteries not Included This toy sewing machine is battery operated, with no power cable. You will need a screwdriver to unscrew the battery cover and 4 large AA 1.5V batteries. Another limitation is that the safety manual advises you to only use the fabrics provided or those approved by the manufacturer (which I suppose I’ll have to call and ask what those are) The fabrics provided have are flat and thin, and have this stiff, fuzzy texture. This toy sewing machine cannot be used to sew any other fabrics. It is simply for play with the materials provided. I took pictures of the fabrics provided. They are very loud, girly patterns. I would have loved something like this as a little girl. It’s very crafty and girlie. I also like how it has a non-detachable plastic shell around the needles to prevent any finger cuts. I also like the cute cut-out shapes included, that add more variety: heart pouch, pencil case, glasses case, small pouch, small bag, and small purse. Did Not Turn On! So, I put in 4 large AA batteries and flipped the switch to on, but alas it did not work. I saw the number to call on the user manual, but the company only answers calls Monday-Friday 11am to 7pm. From other reviews, I read that the needle does not have a lengthy longevity and breaks easily. They are also not replaceable. For all its troubles and limitations, I do not think this product is worth the $35.00.

This is a strange concept for a sewing machine. When power turned on it starts running for a brief time with out the ON button pressed. It has three needles that are all encased in plastic. I expect that is for safety reasons to prevent little fingers getting hurt but it will make it impossible should a needle break. There is no way to remove or replace a broken needle. The needle encasement is also so low to the fabric bed that fabric has to be slightly forced into position. Once the ON button is pressed the child has to move the fabric by hand which can be difficult. If you try too hard to move the fabric the machine sounds stressed like it will break. The emergency stop button is a question to me. The regular On/Off button actually stops the machine faster than the emergency stop so why is it there? So now we go to the issue of fabric and projects. The machine comes with a limited supply of three precut projects, three patterns, 14 very small pcs of fabric and a few misc accessories. My question is when you are finished with these supplies where do you get more? I cannot find anywhere what type of fabric this is that binds to itself with out thread or glue so more projects can be made. Do they sell more projects in a package and where do we find it? Can we buy fabric and if so what should we be purchasing? Without accessibility to more fabric the machine is worthless. Also the projects included could be a little more exciting. Basically your only making stuffed toys. What do you do with them once there made? Make sure the child had an adult assisting. They will need help with this.
