This sewing machine is easy to use and love the extension table included. This machine replaced my previous Brother CS6000i that lasted over 10 years. Bonus was this machine uses the same bobbin size and presser feet. I will use this machine to travel to quilting classes. I also used this machine to make a jelly roll rug and it worked like a champ through the thicker fabric and batting. Only down side is the machine did not come with a dust cover.
I decided to use my grandmother’s clothes to make a quilt for my grandpa for Christmas as this is the first holiday season since her passing. This was rather ambitious as I have never made a quilt on my own before! I had been wanting a sewing machine for a while and was looking for one in my budget with enough features to grow with me as I grow, and accessories to make quilting a breeze. After some research I settled on this model! It did not dissapoint. Got it home and set it up and was testing it out in minutes! I was able to piece together and quilt my grandpa’s quilt in a week’s time thanks to this beauty! The included walking foot and 1/4 inch foot worked perfectly. Setting up this machine was straightfoward, the included instructions give clear step by step description.. people who reviewed that it was difficult to set up must have Had faulty machine or not followed instructions or never used a sewing machine before because it was similar set up to the singer my mom had growing up, only less complicated. The manual tells you everything, what types of needles to use for what, etc. It ran beautifully while sewing through denim, jersey knit, and everyother type of material I had to work with, and had no issues when I was quilting over a few of the thicker seams (denim and velour do not play nice!). This beginner quilter that took on a complicated project is incredibly pleased! Excellent machine! I love my sewing machine! Love this machine. I had an older Brother machine that got broke in a move. Instead of having it repaired, I decided to spoil myself with a new one. I am so glad I did. It so easy to use, even if you're a beginner. Love the start stop buttons. I haven't even tried using the foot pedal yet. So many decorative stitches. And it's fool proof. Select your stitch and the machine tells you which presser foot you need to use. I suppose the only negative thing I could say about it is that had I known how easy it was, I might have gotten one with more fonts. It just has the one. but it's one more than my old machine had. Best purchase ever!
I bought this machine and sewed 3 quilts...12-14 hrs a day. I have had it about a month now. It works great. I have not had any complaints yet! Easy to use. Would buy this model again. Great for quilts, silks, blue jean, and upholstery fabrics. Tough little machine.
after using my XR series for more than 10 years, i decided to get newer version. this machine is surprisingly quiet and smooth and very easy to deal with (even my 6 years old daughter can use it independently)
I'm a beginner and I've been wanting a sewing machine for a while so I got this and I was pleasantly surprised with how good it is and how I've learned a lot already! This machine has a lot of features that I can mess around with without getting too overwhelmed.n

I have been using an older, very basic Brother sewing machine for years. When it was time to upgrade, I knew I wanted to go with Brother again. I love this machine so much. It runs super quiet, it surprised my whole family. I love all the stitch options, but the different presser feet are really what sold me. I have been trying to figure out how to overcast stitch (making unpaper towels), and I have been able to complete so many projects. The stitching is super smooth, the instructions are very easy to read and understand. I really like the option of either using the foot pedal or the “go” button. Being able to adjust the max speed is a huge plus, because sometimes I cannot seem to control the pressure I put on the pedal.
I really like my new sewing machine. It is very easy to use and works like a champ. I ordered it online and was here the next day. The delivery man brought it in my house for me. I was wondering how I would get it up the stairs! Thank you Walmart!
This SQ9285 is made exclusively for Walmart, so I think its likely not as good as machines purchased at sewing machine shops. If you are looking for a Brother machine, buy at a dealer. This machine showed so much potential, but is good only for a door stop or a boat anchor. Its a piece of junk. It would work ok for a while, the next day not. The tension was never correct. It skips just doing a simple straight stitch. Zig zag sometimes doesn't work. I won't even try the decorative stitches if it can't do the straight stitch. This thing is going to a recycle center. I wouldn't want to give it to anyone else to try and get it to work.
