I bought this camera about three days ago, and am new to photography so I didn't know much. The overall design of the menus made it easy to learn on, and also easy to understand. This camera was recommended to me by a friend, and I would easily recommend it to someone else. Takes sharp, clear, and awesome photos.
I'm not sure that The Sony replaces my other SLRs, but I love the smaller size, light weight, and high pixel count. The faster autofocus is another great feature for animal photography. Just returned from a cruise to Alaska. It was great not to lug along my big cameras. I did buy a 210 zoom lens so I was able to catch eagle shots . Then I cropped the pics and still had great image quality.
It had been two month to have a6000 mirrorless camera with sigma 30mm f1.8 lense. I am absolutely newbie about cameras and it is first camera I bought. All I want to say about this product is just perfect for me. Sadly, I lost my camera a weeks ago from las vegas trip, so the pictures I uploaded are taken within a month and under 1100 shutcount. I could satisfy with the picture quality for sure, and so happy to get this camera. Therefore, I'm planning to buy again this camera with basic lense (.....................). I expect quality of basic lense, so I hope do not buy extra lense..haha
I bought the a6000 kit with 2 lenses not long ago and I've been very impressed by the capabilities. I owned a canon 50D, a great camera 5 years ago, and finally switched to the mirrorless world. I wanted something a bit smaller and lighter, with better low light capability. It was down to the Sony and Olympus, but the Sony looked like it had room to grow into, as far as the sensor was concerned. Since I purchased the camera, I've been taking at least a few photos every day and experimenting with the different settings and the programmable buttons. The low light and sharpness performance with the kit lenses has been pretty good with the kit lenses. The autofocus, tracking and 11 frames per second have been great for dog photos. One thing I will be looking for a fast super wide angle lens around the 12 mm range in the near future. In the first photo, I lucked out with an awesome sunrise on the way to work. I did do a little lightening to the foreground in my digital darkroom, but other than that, it was a great morning. I took this one on the "Superior Auto" setting and it was hand held. I just wish I had my tripod and about 10 more minutes to shoot. In the second photo, I was out until almost one in the morning trying to get a shot of the Milky Way. After 5 or 6 tries I finally got the ISO, speed and focus just right. I highly recommend turning on the peaking level and color for this. I used small and red for the stars to get the best sharpness in manual mode. In the third photo, I was playing around with the downloadable filters. This one is called "Toy Camera" and it is pretty fun. It looks a little like when using a tilt-shift lens, but all with software built into the camera. All in all, I could not be happier with the camera. If I would change anything, I would swap the selection dial to the right and the adjustment dial, your thumb naturally sets where the selection dial sits, or maybe a second dial where the power switch is currently . It would be nice if you could adjust the aperture from there. I also have large hands and it would be nice for a little more room to hold onto the camera. This is a tough call though, because if I did that, it would be just as large as a DSLR that I wanted to get away from.
This was my first attempt a using a camera other than a point and shoot. Getting started was difficult because the instruction booklet that came with the camera was useless to me as a newcomer to DSLR. Lots of help came from Google where I found numerous entries that showed me how to work through the menu and set up the camera to start. After some practice, I feel much more able to negotiate the menu and function buttons to get what I wanted. The picture quality looks great and I look forward to getting more familiar with Sony a6000 as I go. I also have to 50mm/f1.8 and the 55-220 lenses.
Serious photographers like me have been getting more and more tired of lugging heavier and heavier DSLR gear to less than totally demanding shoots. The alpha 6000 solves that problem - sort of. Small, and lightweight it allows for changing lenses to accommodate different situations and the available lenses (I only have to carry 2) gets me from 16-210 in a very carry able package.The lenses are reasonably fast/ The downside: It's still not a DSLR so there is not the instant response I'm used to and sometimes require. This one's not bad, mind you, but I have lost some irretrievable moments The lens cap on the 16-55 is annoyingly small and easy to lose so unless you want to keep it tethered to the barrel and look like a dork plan to buy replacements.. Picture quality is very good at shorter focal lengths and acceptable at the top end. If you are used to the somewhat standard DSLR features you will find a learning curve here that is more menu intensive. The camera itself is way better than a fixed lens compact, easy to use and carry for travel and events and a great pro backup. For serious work where my reputation is on the line, for now I'll sticlk with my DSLRs.
Auto focus is outstanding, Best I have ever used aside from the D4 and D4s. Image quality is fantastic with the right lens and the right hands. Beautifully simple and wonderfully customizable. One of my favorite cameras on the market, even though it has been out for months stores still can't keep them in stock. Constructive criticism: I want to see a better sensor for holding color together in low light situations passed 1600 iso. There is absolutely no good reason to have left out a standard microphone input in the camera please do not make that mistake again on such a capable camera you would otherwise have had a huge market with the video crowd. Over all this is my little companion that I take with me and my daughter where ever we go. I will love it until it is a pill of dust from over use.
Takes great pictures when coupled with a significantly better lens. (Without this lens, the camera gets a 5 star rating). Takes a lot of getting used to after using DSLR for many years. Really nice to carry around due to size. Could use a better selection of lens focal lengths with better optics. Will not replace my DSLR.
I bought this as a retirement gift to myself. It has been a learning experience since I wanted it to take photos of the northern lights. Daytime pictures are very nice. I am working on using the manual settings, but the presets are very useful and turn out nice pictures.
Camera and lens worked well initially, but after <100 images, the auto focus died. Many of my newest shots are not in sharp focus at all. I've made several calls and internet help chats and now they have me checking for forefocus and aftfocus issues. Before that, the chat guy told me to try another lens. Like I'm about to buy a new lens for a camera that doesn't work. Camera replaced an old Pentax DSLR that was bulky and unreliable. But it did take acceptable photographs.
