I've had this for a bit more than a year now, and despite being somewhat worried after reading reviews, I'm really glad I got this camera. The zoom allows me to better frame up a lot of shots and I find it really helpful. The quality is good enough to satisfy anyone from beginner to intermediate skill, and the colors are good. Some things I noticed are green and purple borders on high contrast transitions towards the edges of the field of view.
I've been waiting for this camera to be available for over a year. My Canon SX50 HS bit the dust last January. I really LOVE this camera as I knew I would because I loved my SX50 HS. I need a view finder so I had to wait for this camera to be available. It takes wonderful photos and I love the extra zoom capability. The response time of this camera is fantastic.
I needed a smaller camera that is not too professional looking as my 5DMiii. MLB has cracked down on what type of camera is allowed into Major League Baseball stadiums and spring training complexes. So for 2 yrs I didn't go to spring training to take pictures of the players, which is my passion. That's how I got into photography, for sports photography. And because of photography that is how I met my wife! She is also a photographer with even better skills than me! Anyway, I finally broke down and bought this lower level camera and decided to put it to the test! To my surprise it has feature that my go to camera has. You can shoot in Manual, Aperture priority or Shutter priority! You can shoot in RAW and you can adjust the settings on a fly to raise your shutter speed and adjust your aperture to take great shots! It has the latest Digic 8 image processor, image stabilizer, and just the feel of it makes it easy to fit in your hand and light enough to carry the WHOLE DAY! I was pleasantly surprised right out of the box! I had this camera for just 3 weeks and shot just 3 weekends with this and don't let it's small footprint fool you! This is a great camera! The photos prove it and it's so good that I can't wait to take it to spring training this coming year and use the powerful zoom to get just the right shot! I'm also taking this camera to Europe next month! So let me repeat: features that rival the professional cameras that canon has. A small learning curve to get acquainted with it's features and what limitations it has compared to a full blown DSLR. And you too can be taking beautiful pictures! cons: NOT A DSLR it does have limitations but for an ALL AROUND TOWN camera it's THE BOMB!
This was an upgrade from the SX50 that I loved so much. Love everything about this camera. Quality for the price. Still learning where everything is because Canon moves things around a bit. Enjoying the wi-fi capabilities. I mainly take stills, landscapes and macros so I haven't tried out the video yet. Again a quality camera for the price... and skill comes from practice not purchase.
This is my 4th PowerShot camera. I like the fact that this doesn't have the retractable lens cover, as that is what usually breaks first. Unfortunately the lens cover it does come with broke within a couple days (sigh). I love the quality of pictures although the 65x zoom quality is NOT quite what I got with my 45x. Best combination of the dslr without having to change out my lenses when I am on the go.
Like the long lens, decent pictures for sensor size. Very capable in good to medium light. But I knew that going in.
I upgraded from a 15 year old PowerShot A710 (7mp and 6x zoom) to the SX70HS. The operating system is very familiar, but the quality of the output is remarkable. I'm very pleased and the review probably deserves the fifth star, but I'm still learning all the features. Very pleased so far.
This is my 3rd. Canon. I have had the camera for 3 weeks. It has worked great. The zoom lens is great for birds, focus is fast and sharp, and the macro is way better than expected. My only complaint is DPP for processing RAW images is very slow on my computer. I use DNG from Adobe to convert them now it works fine.
Love it. Great Camera. Gets really close up shots and it's crisp and clear. Better than lugging around all my big lenses. So much fun! I'm amazed at how close you can zoom in and it has a great depth of field. I've taken it to baseball games and sitting up in the nose bleeds getting great shots. People sitting around me asked where did I get that camera? It's great. :) The one drawback is low battery life. I keep at least 3 fully charged batteries with me if I'm going to be shooting all afternoon. They maybe last about 90 minutes especially if shooting video, even less.
My SX50 occasionally still works, and I feel that when it does, the photo quality exceeds that of the SX70. However, I didn't have time to figure this out during the 2-week return window (from purchase date - delay in shipping resulted in the loss 5 of those 14 days). I wish Canon would resume manufacturing the SX50, which seems to be the sweet spot of reliably clear, sharp, bright photos. I would gladly give up the extra (useless) zoom for this.
