Great Trimmer for the price

Had a Craftsman for 8 years, I had paid $160.00 , way back then. Did some research on this trimmer and it has all the same features as my old one. Except it only has a 14" cut instead of a 17" cut. This trimmer is 5 pounds lighter than my last one. The string is very easy to load, and starting is a wiz. The aluminum head makes it easy to trim the grass to about an inch high. The attachments are reasonably priced, and make the chore of yard work a lot easier. I think this is a great trimmer for the price, compared to other name brands.

It's definitely the time of year to get good deals on mowers and trimmers. I bought this trimmer a couple weeks ago and I haven't had any issues as of yet. I recieved this trimmer from my hometown Walmart on clearance for 75$. I couldn't pass it up. It was the only one left. Walmart's cheapest regular trimmer was 88$ and it was the bottom of the barrel. This one was regular 118$ and I got it for 75$. So, obviously I bought this one because it was higher quality, 13$ cheaper, and you can add attachments for other jobs. The only negative thing I've encountered is that even after using it for a good 30-45 minutes, it starts cold blooded after LMK sitting for 15-20 minutes. Other than that, I really enjoy using it. Great buy!

Out of the box, it took about 5-10 minutes of pulling to get it started, and most every time since. However, once it is running, it stays running! I chewed up a lot of weeds and tall grass the first time out. One other problem, if you get into tall grass, you will HAVE to shut down and clear the wrapped up grass off the shaft, kinda a pain in the .....Get heavier duty wire too, chews up pretty quick. Also, I found that if you pump the primer slow, and you can see the gas filling the primer, it started quicker. All in all, other than the starting, it can do the job, although NOT commercial grade!

This model has a 25 cc engine - the minimum for cutting heavy grass and heavy weeds with a max of about 1/2 inch stems. I have not had this model but for a week. The second time I used it, I noticed the design of the cutting head was flawed. The cutting head has two 'tunnels' you fish the line through. Works well and fast when they are aligned. but they fall out of alignment cutting heavy weeds. Use it 5 minutes in heavy grass and weeds, then spend 15 minutes fixing the head to take line. Murray could solve this is very easy (a couple of very short tubes, not split that can be cleaned out with a wire if clogged. They could have even tested the design before using it to discover the flaw. They could also include a cam to better lock the line at high rpms. The "engineers" obviously did not test the head design. Longer grass and weeds also wrap around the shaft where the head is attached. It can bog it down, so you have to constantly clean. Can't comment on engine quality and design. Have not had it long enough yet, but no problems after 3 days running 100% gas with 40:1 mix. This model seems best to use for light trimming on shorter grass. This machine is overkill for that.

straight shaft click link

I first purchased a curve shaft click link, which ran good but was 4 in too short for me to use and couldnt trim uder anything. took it back and paid $20 more for straight shaft. motor didnt run as good, but ok. couldve been a couple inches longer and a strap would be great. dont like the single piece of string head junk that came with it. dont know who thought that was a good idea instead of a bump head. could not find a bump head at 2 stores for murry, and dont want to pu anoyher $20 out for it. i did buy the chainsaw attachment, that i really like, works good. i also bought the tiller attachment, havent used it yet.

Starts easily but runs poorly

I've had this a little over a year and am returning it today. It starts just fine but takes about fifteen minutes to warm up enough to use. Now even after starting it the head won't turn when the throttle is pressed. It's like there's a missed connection somewhere. After a while of continuous revving it will finally start to spin. I read another review that said the gearbox is poorly designed, so that might be the issue. I don't understand why people think these heads are better than a spool/bump head, because you'll spend more time changing out line on these. I'm returning mine and going back to a bump head. Also, it tangles very easily on the exposed part of the shaft. I had to carry some pliers in my pocket to pull the grass out constantly.

Won't Start

Bought it 2 weeks ago. Takes forever to start. Has run twice in that time. Pulled and cleaned plug twice. Runs when it feels like it, going back to WalMart for refund.

This is by far the worst product Murray has ever come out with. I wish i had read the reviews before i bought this weedeater. Im now getting ready to return the second one. Starts like a dream just wont run for nothing. The head barely spins and more so gums grass instead of actually cutting it. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME MONEY OR EFFORT ON THIS WEEDEATER!

Very light duty mechine

Pro - if you want a gas powered branch cutter this is great machine. Cons- Very light duty machine for cutting weeds. Cuts light grass fine but if you get into heavy the size of a straw or bigger it will have a hard time cutting even with heavy cord in the head. the motor bogs down and if it cuts it. Its wraps around the head. Then you have to stop and unwind the weeds from the head. Using the tiller head is ok for again light small areas but feels like the attachment wants to come off at the connecting joint
