I've owned this house for three years and have been ashamed of the kitchen floor for three years. The floor was laid in 1937 and it's probably been refinished only once. Until yesterday it was scratched, pitted, discolored and dull. I used the kit and the result is a shiny floor. The wood is still distressed but now it seems 'shabby chic' as opposed to old and tired and grungy. I didn't do any sanding. The abrasive pad that came in the kit helped clean the floor but didn't smooth any scratches or dings. I did use wood filler to repair some termite damage. The finish coat adheres to the wood and the filler. It also helps fill cracks and hide scratches. Best of all there were no noxious odors and no volatile chemicals. My gas stove (circa 1952) has a bunch of pilot lights. I didn't bother to turn off the gas or anything though I did open windows for ventilation, etc. I recommend this product. The problem is finding it available in stores or on the internet.
