Does everything it is supposed to do

Any rating giving less than a 4 star is probably worth tossing out. I would venture to guess all the negative reviews are from people who did not care to read what the product actually does. This item clearly states it is an evaporator (Think of this thing as a small swamp cooler) and the manufacturer clearly states what it can be expected to do. That is: lower a personal space/area around 10-12 degrees, not for use in high humidity areas, uses little electricity, has a timer/sleep mode, moving louvers and a dust/lint guard. All of those things, it does to a "T". If you want to lower your temp +25 degrees, you will need to go spend 300-400 bucks on a compressor/refrigerator system.

Good product!

My husband and I are in Colorado and do not have air conditioning. Only a few days would AC be helpful; thus we bought the Evaporative Cooler as an alternative to AC on those few summer days. The product is good for a small room --- we use ours in our living room for a few hours on warm afternoons. We find a frozen ice block put in with the water adds extra cooling. We also learned to not wait until the room got hot; but to turn on the evaporative cooler early as it was much more effective at maintaining the temperature rather than cooling the room. I would definitely recommend this product and the price was right compared to others we looked at.

very cool

This unit allows me to stay cool in my bedroom without running the A/C for the whole house when I am in my bedroom with my TV and Laptop 90% of the day. I do not have to shut windows or doors. The fan is very cooling even if I don't put ice in the cooling chamber. Plus the apartment complex does not allow individual A/C units hanging out the windows. Hope this helps some of you in the same situations.

Not a Miracle worker but good none the less

This is a small evaporative cooler so I didn’t expect to get the same results as a window unit or central AC but it did cool my office space down a few degrees. All you have to do is follow the instructions and you will get the desired results. Remember Evaporate air coolers do not work affectively in humid climates just like swamp coolers on your house. Know your product and expect results based on that. Overall it was a very good alternative to the large portable A/C units if all you need is something to take the edge of the heat off.

Mixed Thoughts

So this product is a little disappointing. First of All I live in Central CA where it is about 50% humidity and 90during the day-60's at night now. I am using this unit in the 2nd story SouthWest Bedroom that is a heat box. This room heats to over 100 degrees during the day. I run the AC for the rest of the house @77-78 degrees. I use this unit during the day when I sleep in the HeatBox to keep it cool. It keeps the room cool enough to sleep in fairly comfortably til @ 2p then it is too hot for sleep even with the cooler. Before it was getting too hot in the room to sleep after 11a. But the fan is a great noise blocker and this has been extremely helpful. I have found the hotter it is outside the less effective the cooler seems to be no matter how cold the water/ ice is that I put in it. I did find that if I used the unit continuously and "over cooled" the room during the night when it was cooler outside, it did help the room stay coolor, longer into the day. But I am not sure how this will work when the temps do not cool less then 80 at night.

A sopping floor waiting to happen

I purchased this unit in the hopes it could cool but a single room in my small home. It did a fair job the first day, keeping the temperature down perhaps 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit below the outdoors. However, when I walked by the unit after it had been running for perhaps 5-6 hours, the carpeting around it was sopping wet. I purchased a plastic tray to put under it, about 18x24x1 inches, but still had to empty it at least once every 5-6 hours of operation. This just was not worth the minimal cooling, so I returned it. Most definitely not worth the cost or hassle.

Doesnt work.

You would have to put dry ice in this thing to make it blow out cold air and that would make you sick. The fan is pretty powerful and I like that its easy to move around and operate. But it doesnt cool down the room at all. I tryed it over night when i got it. and it did nothing at all. the ice melted fast, and the water got warm quick.

Needs ice and a drain.

Using room temp water will do no more good than simply running the fan alone. You need to use ice to notice any effect. They need to re-design the unit and include a drain. It's very messy to empty with sponges or towels.

This air conditioner doesn't work at all! It is made of cheap plastic, and is very junky. The "cool" setting feels just like the fan option. It doesn't make my room any cooler, but it does put out a bad plastic smell. Don't waste your $100 on this peice of junk!!
