The weather here finally broke and was nice enough to allow me to start the install of the AcuRite 01004M unit outside on top of my shed. I had ordered some AA lithium batteries which is recommended if the unit will be in cold temps. I installed the batteries and setup everything inside to check for functionality of the unit and display before the outside work. Everything went well, the setup is super easy and the display is large and chock full of info. I ran out of daylight, and will complete the outside work tomorrow. I temporarily placed the unit outside to complete the testing phase and all worked well, including wind velocity. I am looking forward to the lightning info as well as rain fall data. This is a quality unit, well made, and stout. For a home unit, look no further!
This weather station very easy to put together and to put out in your yard I have a fastened to my deck must be about 5 foot near you can use an optional pole does very well in predicting the weather lightning strikes picks up right away has a rain gauge very accurate and it doesn't look bad on my deck it's not an eyesore very well-made I'd recommend this for anybody who would like to know what the temperatures going to be outside and what the future forecast is
Not sure where to start on reviewing this AcuRite model 01004M station with lightning detection. It has tons of features that after having it installed for only a week I am still finding out new things about it and it is very impressive to say the least.I will mostly mention the installation and you can research all the features it has. Installing the outdoor unit was easy and I put it on the peak of our garage. It comes with a bracket to mount either vertically or horizontally and to me it didn't put the unit high enough off the roof with that bracket and the horizontal install was not possible on a slanted roof, so I simply used a three foot length of pipe and secured it vertically to the side wall of garage as picture shows. It states to level the unit for accurate rain fall measurement and it even has a built in bubble level! Having installed 4 double A batteries and removing protective tape from rain gauge, I was ready to go inside and power up indoor unit. It needs to be plugged in to AC voltage and comes with a base for sitting on counter or a wall mount, both supplied. Mine is on wall and the approximate 7 inch by 4 inch display is very well lit and easy to read, especially the outdoor temp, humidity and rain fall amount. When it powered up the display walks you right through basic setup and in a few minutes it was reading all outside conditions. I love it and still learning all it can do. Weather channels not needed for local weather any longer! Definitely recommend!!
When I first received this weather station, I thought it would require a bit of time investment in order to set it up. Actually, I found out it is quite simple to set up, and it doesn't take long at all. It comes with a quick set-up guide for both the weather station and the indoor display/base unit. The full color guides quickly show you how to set up the weather station and the display. The first thing you need to do is determine a suitable location. According to the manual, it should be at least five feet off the ground, within 330 feet of the display, rear solar panel must face south (I used my smartphone to determine due south), and it must be level for accurate rain reporting. According to the brief manuals that also come with the units, you can get an optional extension to lift the anemometer and wind vane up to 30 feet above the ground. The higher these items are, the more accurate your wind speed and direction will be. There is also an optional lightening detection sensor that can be installed. This model (06059) came with the detector. I believe this system measures just about everything. It measures outdoor/indoor temperature, indoor/outdoor humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall, barometric pressure, dew point, chill factor, light intensity in lux, UV index, trending weather, and the base unit also maintains records of maximum and minimum values of some of these parameters. Speaking of the base unit, it has one beautiful display. I was really impressed with how nice the graphics are; check my picture. The upper right corner of the display alternates with statistical information such as today's outdoor high/low humidity, today's indoor high/low humidity, 30 days high temperature, new low temperature recorded, warmest day this week, all time high wind, and much more. I was just reading off the display as I was writing this. It also records rainfall for the day, week, month, year, and rate per hour. Actually it was raining today, and the unit measures .o3 inches of rain. To give you a better feel about what you can all do with this base unit, the menu lists the following items: records, alarms, setup, display, sensor, units, calibrate, and factory reset. When you first turn it on (by plugging the base unit in to a wall outlet via the wall wart), it takes you through the preliminary setup straightaway. As you can see from my description, this is an elaborate weather station with a beautiful display that provides you with just about anything you need to know about the weather. Awesome!
I have always been fascinated with techie devices--and it's always so good when they actually work and exceed your expectations as this one does. The AcuRite Atlas weather station comes with an impressive array of instruments as well as a color monitor that stays in doors. The monitor runs on 4 AA batteries and an AC adapter and the whole thing is very easy to set up. It records temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall as well as UV. Along with an optional Lightning Detection Sensor you can set various alarms for storms and lightning. It will also give 12 and 24 hour animated weather forecasts which show up on the monitor graphically. To detect accurate wind speed and direction the outdoor device must be mounted at least five feet above ground. A variety of reports and charts are available including daily and monthly recordings of temp, wind and rainfall. All in all this is a terrific and impressive device for the weather enthusiast and anyone concerned about the weather in their area.
I was very excited to receive the new AcuRite Atlas weather station, due to the one that I have now is over 10 years old. So the new one has to be a lot better, right? Well after receiving it and opening it up, it looked impressive. I quickly looked it over and read the quick start sheet, then installed the four AA batteries in the outdoor anemometer and climbed up on the roof to install it on my highest eve. Witch I found that the plastic mounting pole that came with it is a little short to mount it to the side of my roof and point it south as the instructions say. The anemometer is too bulky and hits the roof. I had to get a short antenna pole and extend it up a little. Then I came back inside and plugged the display in and was rewarded with a very vibrant 6-7/8 inch color touch screen. Much more impressive than my older one, but as I have found that the screen has way too much information on it at one time (lightning detection, inside/outside temperatures, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, light intensity, UV index) and it's hard to glance at it and tell let's say what temperature it is. You have to look over the entire screen until you find the information that you want. Also there is no way to change what is being shown (except night mode) or different screens you can pick from. I would like a more basic information screen for everyday use. It does have a night mode that you can set to come on/off at a certain time. But if you touch it when it's in night mode it comes back on and stays on unless you touch the Zz on the screen to put it to sleep. It also doesn't change the wattage it uses in day or night mode, which is 2.3 watts. The screen doesn't have a tilt stand on it, but you can mount it to the wall and it has a SD card slot for storing weather data on it. Hope this helps and good luck,
If you're a weather enthusiast, or just enjoy having some fun monitoring the weather outside your backyard, this (AcuRite 01004M Atlas Weather Station with Lightning Detection) system is just the ticket. I've only owned this for less than two weeks now and did notice there're various models to choose from. This particular system/model 01004M, does include the lightning detector as well as the HD display. Definitely the greatest feature for me is the HD display, you can mount it somewhere if you like, or just keep it simple like myself and place it wherever its convenient. My wife and I tend to just move the display wherever appropriate. At times its on top of the refrigerator, other times we may want to monitor things more closely at our kitchen-island. With so many display features, the indoor HD screen also has an alarm that can be set for temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and forecasted storms. You can disable this alarm feature too, however; when a condition your monitoring reaches a certain threshold that you set, the alarm will sound along with a flashing indicator light. Another favorite of mine! My final thoughts are, just be prepared to spend a little time properly setting this up for the most accurate readings. You can either rush through the set-up or take a bit more time and do it right! Its not difficult and can be a lot fun setting-up. Some highlights: Small and portable HD display! Alarm for monitoring various weather threshold conditions Adjustable alarm volume controls You can silence your alarms or disable them Indoor display memory will store the las 48 hours of readings Reading calibrations for indoor unit and outdoor that you can set Walmart by the way, in my opinion, is much better than that other place that charges a membership fee, just to ship within 2 days (all the while their priming only revenue). Walmart ships within 2 days, and with no membership charges! I order online from Walmart all the time, so much nicer than standing in lines and loading-up carts.
I am often dialing the local time and temperature telephone number, checking online, or watching television to see what the temperature is outside. I have always considered purchasing a weather station but wondered if they would be accurate or not. When Walmart gave me the opportunity to evaluate this product and give an honest review I knew I had to check it out. Unfortunately for this evaluation, the weather has been really nice, staying around sixty degrees and calm. There has been no storms or heavy winds. Nevertheless, I have still enjoyed my new weather station. I have compared the temperature readings with the various other methods such as online, television and weather radio. The temperature readings seem to be accurate. Included in the box is the main weather sensor, which I have temporarily mounted on my back deck for the evaluation. The sensor is lightweight and made out of plastic. It has three small solar panels which power the aspirating fan during the daytime. There is also a built in bubble level on the top. I was somewhat disappointed that they only included a very short mounting bracket, which is why I have it temporarily mounted on the deck railing. You may need to purchase a longer pole, or board depending on your mounting situation. I plan on purchasing an outside, television antenna mount to place it above the roof of my house. The only downside to this would be changing the four AA batteries in the weather sensor, especially if there is snow on the pitched roof. Luckily, there is an optional remote battery pack with 30 foot cord you can purchase through AcuRite. This item is currently Out Of Stock on the AcuRite website, so hopefully it will be available soon. It is too bad this was not included since most folks might want to mount the item on their roof or up high. There is also an optional power adapter you can buy if you have an electrical outlet available. Included is the lightning detector which easily snaps into the bottom of the unit. Again, there has been no storms here so I have not been able to accurately test this feature. Another optional accessory is the AcuRite Access for My AcuRite Remote Monitoring. This item plugs into your router and allows you to use your smartphone, tablet, or computer for monitoring. Since the preferred height for the temperature is closer to ground level, but the wind monitoring recommended height is around 33 feet, you can purchase an optional wind extension that has thirty feet of cord. The seven inch color monitor is included and it is really nice with a bright, clear display. They included the adaptor with it, as well as a wall mounting bracket. So be aware of what you are buying, and what is an optional item. Overall, I like this product but will need to purchase some optional items to make it more convenient and work even better.
This is a Item that would be great being sold at Sam's as it would be great for that weather hobbyist and or a Business that wants to keep track of the weather. Hard to put together and can tell you with the adapter how many lighting strikes you had and has a rain gauge. The pad is touch screen and is easy to set up. Box was Bland and really showed nothing and can be installed on a flag pole or side of building and comes with mounting brackets. Uses 4 AA Batteries if no Solar charge. The unit must sync up with the monitor. The monitor is separate and can sit on your table. Bulky
The AcuRite 01004M Atlas Weather Station with Lightning Detection was a letdown for me. I've had weather stations in the past and was expecting something of an upgrade to my past equipment. However, that didn't happen. The first noticeable thing I saw was that the outside unit was built like a child's plastic toy. I had to be especially careful in handling it to prevent any damage to the unit. I think that if it fell out of my hands it would probably crack and become worthless. Next was the mounting post. It was another piece of plastic. I had to be careful once again when mounting it, that the post didn't get cracked from the set mounting bolt of the main unit and that the main unit didn't crack from being over tightened. The mounting hardware that comes with the unit is practically useless for mounting it on anything but a piece of wood and the anchors don't match the hardware supplied at all. After I got it up and working the next disappointment became apparent. The inside display monitor is very pretty and colorful. However, it lacks logical utility and accuracy. The first noticeable disappointment was the historical information. The chart's time base units do not show time but instead minus hours from the present. You would have thought with all the computer power out there instead of displaying minus hours from the present it could have calculated actual hour tags so you could tell what time of the day certain events occurred. All comparison events are displayed this way and it becomes a real hassle to constantly have to convert time readings rather than just observe them. Next the readings are questionable. I observed it raining outside but the /hr rate showed no indications of any rain any time soon. It seems once again like the logic is lacking in that it took almost an hour before it displayed any information. My old cheapo unit would calculate an hourly rate immediately after the first few drops hit it. The lux reading is a nice feature but questionable once again. I'm in Florida; many of the readings are above the 120K range of the unit. So when the sun is out the intensity becomes somewhat useless beyond letting you know it's a normal Florida day. The lightning sensor is also questionable. In the past 48 hours my unit is showing over 2,000 lightening strikes in the area and yet I have observed none. What is it measuring? We know what lightning is here in Florida but, I think this thing is just measuring static electricity. There is a lot more I could say but in keeping this just to a simple review I have to say I received this unit for the evaluation purposes and understand that it sells for over $200. Had I purchased this unit outright I would have returned it immediately for the disappointing durability, logic and accuracy that I have experienced with it.
