It's hard to believe that such a technically sophisticated instrument could be purchased for less than $10--the cost of a couple of cups of coffee, or a few pair of socks. Setup is easy and the performance is all that you could hope for. You can pay much more for a flashier display, but why would you? Great value.

I have 4 of them -- upstairs bedroom- downstairs kitchen - basement den and garage. I MADE AN ERROR though-- I put up 2 of the outdoor sensors-- 1 in the front and 1 in the back of the house -- wrong. ONLY 1 outdoor sensor is necessary and I hung it in a covered outdoor area but in open air to sense the outside temp. with 2 I was getting mixed signals-- but 1 did the trick and all 4 indoor receivers read the same outside temps-- but still record the varying indoor temps-- upstairs-downstairs- garage are usually different. The key is using a high quality battery [ I use Duracell copper tops] for the outside / inside items so you get strong signals all year round -- cheap batteries won't last or work very long as the outdoor sensor sends a signal frequently. I put new batteries in outside before winter and they last until summer for me. The indoor units usually last a whole year. GREAT gift idea too. Batteries are not included so buy good fresh ones!

I had an Acu-Rite model similar to this which I bought new in 2004, and it was bullet-proof, accurate, and hung nicely on the wall. (It still works, though it also had an 'alarm' feature, and randomly a few weeks back, it started beeping every 5-10 minutes and wouldn't stop. Rather annoying.) Anyway, this one doesn't seem to read as 'true.' The old one consistently matched thermometers in our vehicles and/or being reported by the local weather reports. This one reports several degrees warmer for both interior and exterior temps. The old one's case had 'flip-out' legs to stand it up if you chose to put it on a table or counter rather than hanging it on a wall; this one has a formed 'triangular' base which isn't removable nor does it fold up. As such, it doesn't allow it to hang flush on the wall. (It's got a wall-mount 'keyhole' on it, but with the triangular base, it angles sharply upward and you can't read the temperature easily.) One nice feature is it immediately syncs with the Atomic clock and re-syncs nightly. As such, you don't have to mess around initially setting the date and time; adjusting it for Daylight Savings and time zone is easy as well. Another nice feature to have (and which the old one included) was the exterior sensor had a digital display, so you could see the temperature outside where that was located - as well as transmitting it to the base unit inside the house. This one's sensor is streamlined, hangs or is placed easily, and is easy to set for selecting one of the three optional frequencies, but doesn't let you know what the temp is outside. But overall not bad for something around $15.

The clock is preset and changed over to MST when it was supposed to. The outdoor sensor is ~1 1/2 degrees F low. Had it right next to the indoor/display, for a couple of days, and it constantly read 1 - 2 degrees low. This was corroborated by a thermometer that has been around for years, is fairly close to temp and reads in tenths of a degree. AcuRite has been of no help whatsoever.

When I first loaded the batteries it gave some really off temp results with the interior temp showing 6 degrees too high and the exterior temp showing 12 degrees too high. Then the exterior transmitter stopped transmitting (or the interior unit stopped receiving). I took the batteries out and repeated the process 2 more times with the same results. I was about ready to give up and return it but decided to try reloading the batteries one more time. This time it worked just fine with temp readings both inside and outside being with a degree of actual. I've since placed the exterior unit in the bilge of my boat (to monitor the effectiveness of the bilge heater during winter freezes). It's about 30' from where the inside unit is located and has been functioning perfectly for the last 3 weeks. I would have given this a 3 star rating because of the initial difficulties encountered trying to get it to function properly. I bumped it up to 4 star because of the great price. I now hope it lasts for a good while.

Same model number but pictured item not the same.

Same model number as the item that was pictured on Walmart's website (I have one just like it that I bought about 8 years ago) but the item received in my order (and seen in the local stores) is not the same. It is very different in overall appearance and in the screen display. Some setup procedures are easier and the wireless reception is about 3 times as far as the older version. It does appear to be reasonably accurate in the temperature reading. However, the temperature display does not read to the tenth of a degree nor the time to the second nor does the daily maximum/minimum temperature show the time that each occurred, all of which the one that was pictured on the website does do. Also, the clock does not appear to set automatically to the atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado like the one pictured does.

The thermometer was easy to set up and was working great until last week. This happened about 10 weeks after our purchase. One of the digits for the outdoor temperature will not display correctly. We like the size, design and layout but cannot use it to display information correctly.

Inside temperature not accurate

The outside sensor reads the temperature perfectly. Unit synced up with no issues. On the downside, the inside sensor is off by 3°F. That's a pretty large error for a thermometer and clearly out of spec. I have other thermometers for inside so will keep it, as I was mainly after the outside temperature. More hassle to exchange it than it's worth.

I needed a replacement sensor for my weather station so I searched on-line for the model number. The picture was identical to what I already had, so I purchased this product. When it arrived at my home, however, it was nothing like the picture, and it was not complimentary to my old unit. Also, my original weather station could support 3 different sensors, this one could only support one. It also did not come with a probe per the description.

I had purchased a previous Acurite wireless weather station that had a sensor failure after about two years of use. It was fairly accurate, so I decided to try another Acurite unit. This new weather station worked fine for about one week. During that week, outside temp ranged from about 40 deg to about 75 deg. Station outside readings seemed to be reasonable accurate (within about 2-3 degrees). Although indoor readings were about 3 or 4 degrees higher than a nearby mercury thermometer. Then one morning clock and temp readings all remained frozen and unchanged from the previous afternoon. Pressing high or low buttons produced no change in the display. Removed batteries. Batteries checked ok. Replaced batteries. Restarted station. Sensor unit was still transmitting, and everything appeared normal again. However, outside air temp was now reaching low 80 degrees in the afternoon. Now, station temp readings were much higher than actual. Example: at 83 degrees outside temp (verified by two outside mercury thermometers placed at same location, and local weather station), the station outside temp reading was 98 degrees! Also, station inside temp reading was 81 deg., while inside temp was actually 73 deg. At lower temp, the outside readings seemed much closer to actual, but I did not verify this with actual measurements. I am now looking for a new wireless weather station.
