Wasn't sure I should spend an extra $100+ for the latest Apple TV & I'm extremely happy I did!!! Setup was quick & easy. Am now able to play Apple Music via my Sony TV & Yamaha receiver thru my Jamo speakers. SUPER STOKED. Sound quality & Apple GUI exceed my expectations. Bonus: I decided to watch the current season (11) of America's Got Talent and found streaming it from the beginning via NBC app easy to do thru Apple TV. Bonus #2: the Bluetooth remote is a PLEASURE to use. And, yes, I spoke to it "America's Got Talent Season 11 Epidode 8" and .... Drumroll ... Up popped the show. Easy peasy! Advice: Buy the AppleCare for the unit! $19 for 2 years phone support from The BEST Techinical support in the world - Apple! Enjoy!
The AppleTV 4 still sets the gold standard for streaming devices. Very elegant operation and adding Siri makes finding programming so easy - just speak your request. And of course, for people with other Apple devices it makes access to your photos and operation from a smart phone very easy. Ordering from Walmart was great – simple, received quickly and the price can't be beat!
There are new games that are great. The unit is easy to set up and connectivity is improved. Will save money on monthly entertainment budget.
I have four Apple TVs — one 32GB 4th Generation, one 64GB 4th Generation, one 3rd Generation and one 2nd Generation. Walmart has the best price on the 4th Generation models which are superior because you can install apps for a variety of video content that's not available on the earlier models. I picked up the 64GB model not only because it can hold more apps, but also because I use an app for watching antenna TV that I hope will enable DVR abilities down the road.
The most current AppleTV is great. The all new remote integrate with Siri makes it a lot easier to search. AppleTV make sure regular TV into a smart one providing you have an HDMI connection in the back of the TV.
Reasons for 4 star vs 5 star are:- a) Although the voice aided Search is a huge improvement over the old Search methods, it is still not a 100% just like Siri has a problem at times understanding a request. b) Also, not all Movie or TV apps on the App Store are available for download the way they are available to be downloaded to the I phone or I pad. So the way around that is to play them on the iPad or iPhone and then mirror the contents to your TV using Apple Air Play a workaround and a good but not great solution!
I have had a Roku for about 2 years and love it. I purchased this Apple TV because it was On sale 159 for the 64gb. This Apple TV doesn't have as many channels as the Roku but for me it made sense because my laptop and phone are apple products. The apple play just makes it more convenient than needing another chord.
I purchased the 4th Gen Apple TV as a Christmas gift for my wife as a replacement for the previous 3rd Gen. I was pleasantly surprised to have the set up for the Apple TV be so easy via your iPhone by Bluetooth connectivity. There was also a manual set up option for non iPhone users. The main reason we made the purchase was the Siri remote and the ability to have Siri locate movies or shows via voice recognition.the Siri remote is no gimmick it works really well. There was one additional feature I was impressed with and find extremely useful, you can connect a set of Bluetooth Headphones and listen to a movie/show late at night without disturbing anyone else in the house. All in all this was an excellent purchase as we caught it on sale for $98.00 and the regular price at Apple is currently $149.00. I would have gladly spent the $149.00. I would highly recommend this product.
It would have been 5 stars of I could access Amazon Prime. It has pretty much every other content app you could want. I also like how it just recognized my TV and surround sound system and started controlling them, no set up needed. Powering on/off Apple TV also turns on/off my TV and surround sound, volume controls work as well. I have a Samsung Smart TV and Samsung surround sound, both are Bluetooth.
My wife and I have enjoyed the previous version of Apple TV that we were really looking forward to this version. However, the touch pad of the remote is very touchy and it mysteriously goes back to the home screen quite often when trying to access and app. Also doesn't appear that Siri can search within the apps so is very limited in that regard.
