Recently replaced the roof on our house with aluminum, which badly reduced the analog signal quality from our attic antenna. An outdoor antenna is required for decent analog reception about 20 miles north of the towers in Corpus Christi, TX, and we didnt want to mess with moving our 30+ year old aerial antenna to the outside of the house. Looking to modernize a little and also be ready for the digital conversion (since it receives both analog and digital signals), I purchased the RCA ANT806, for installation beneath the eave on the front of the house. Within 15 minutes it was easily installed and hooked up using the coaxial cable that went to the attic aerial antenna. Fairly good picture quality even without the amplifier, but it improved to nearly cable quality once the amp was plugged in (except for Channel 3 which was expected). Very happy with product, although it seemed just a tad overpriced and could be had a little cheaper online, even with the shipping charges added. Nevertheless--I recommend the product and can't wait to see how it works with our DTV set that arrives next week.
I live between San Antonio and Austin TX - San Antonio being about 20 miles away, and Austin about 40 miles. I already had a DTV converter box connected to 4 small flat antennas (RCA ANT1450) with amplification, and now including this one, I have a total of 5 antennas connected to my box. I know it sounds like a Christmas tree, but it works quite well. Before I added this one I was getting OK reception about half of the time. Now I have added this antenna, and get EXCELLENT reception almost all of the time. I get over 20 local channels very well. Believe it or not, I get Austin stations far better than closer San Antonio. I can't believe there are so many free channels! No more cable bill. I won't be able to tell you how well this antenna works alone, but I will say that if you combine this with others and experiment a little, it just might pay off. This antenna comes with a bracket so you can mount it on a pole outside, but mine is on the wall inside. Hope this helps.
I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE RIGHT ANTENNA FOR THE DTV SWITCH FOR ABOUT A YEAR. THE CONVERTER BOXES TELL OF A SMART ANTENNA, BUT I BELIEVE RCA FOUND OUT THAT WASN'T THE ANSWER TO ALOT OF THE RECEPTION PROBLEMS. A INDOOR/OUTDOOR ANTENNA, SIMPLE IN DESIGN AND FUNCTIONAL, THAT'S WHAT YOU GET WITH THIS ONE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE STATIONS' RELAY TOWERS ARE 17 MILES FROM MY HOUSE AND TO THE SOUTH SIDE. I PLACED THIS ANTENNA IN THE ATTIC ALONG A SOUTH GABLE. I HOOKED IT TO MY 19" FLAT SCREEN AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL ! I ALSO RAN A SPLITTER TO MY OLD ANALOG 13" W/CONVERTER BOX AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL ! AND YES WITH THE SPLITTER YOU CAN WATCH DIFFERENT STATIONS AT THE SAME TIME. THE ANTENNA COMES WITH HARDWARE TO MOUNT TO A MAST OUTDOORS OR IF YOUR CLOSE TO THE STATIONS I'M SURE IT WILL WORK GREAT INDOORS.
I have this hanging up inside a metal building and it does not do very well, I have not had time to mount it outside. The unit is bigger than it looks like in the picture!
Good value for the money. Antennas are quirky devices, a mystical science. My worst channel is now my best, previous best is now marginal. Line of sight, obstruction free path to the transmitter always yields the best results with any antenna. I am about 30 miles from the transmitting antennas. The amplifier enhances some channels more than others. I have an ($14.) unamplified antenna that yields almost as good results on most of the channels on a 2nd tv on the back porch.
It might be great in an attic or somewhere out of the way, but we have no attic. We placed it on the wall high above our TV and every time we walked by it would scramble. Returned to store. Decided to try the flat RCA version, will let you know....
Would not recieve digal signal from 20 miles away. Way over priced. I was looking to buy one that I could use in the attic, this sure is not the one.
