Detailed product description

Sun Exposure: full sun Level of Care: easy Max Plant Height: 1 feet 6 inches

Introduced in 1897 by Peter Henderson & Company of New York. This heirloom variety has 6" green pods and shiny black seeds. The only black-seeded variety that has remained popular. Excellent for use as a fresh snap bean or a dry soup bean. Prolific and dependable plants produce pods borne above foliage. Bush plants, 49-55 days. Seed Saving Instructions: Bean flowers are self-pollinating and almost never cross-pollinate. As a precaution, never plant two white seeded varieties side-by-side if you intend to save seed because crossing may occur but not be visible. It is always best to save seed from plants that ripen first and are free from disease. Harvest seed pods when completely dry, crush in a cloth or burlap sack and winnow the seeds from the chaff.
